Monotype Printmaking at SUNY Oswego

Student artists like David Owens keep alive the tradition of monotype printing -- creating a plate for a one-of-a-kind print, as he demonstrates in this video. Owens and other students in Mary Pierce's "Introduction to Printmaking" class exhibit their work in "Painterly Prints," which runs from Oct. 26 to Nov. 30 at Oswego State Downtown, corner of West First and Bridge streets. The gallery and store hosts a free opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Video by HCI graduate student Phillip Moore.

Could someone share any info on the paper preparation. ?. Also wondering if the paint on the plate or plexiglass has to be dry or wet..

Paper is likely Johannot, or some thick cotton European paper, that's been placed in water for probably at least 10 mins so that it will better absorb and retain ink as well as tear less easily in the press. The "paint" is actually ink, which is always "wet" more accurately a liquid state. If ink is dry it's because it has been exposed to air for too long and becomes unusable. Cheers.
