I didn't want to like this kayak but you touched on the two biggest pain points I have when kayak fishing - staying on a wreck and retying on windy days. Looks like I'll be grabbing one when they're back in stock. Seems like a game changer for bridge fishing.

Man Elias, you got a ton of room in that 136. I'm accustomed to watching JC in the 106. Ha the floor is still shinny clean. Wow, that is a beauty of a red fish... Really looking forward to hearing your views here. Glad you feel there is a difference between this platform and others. I'm going with the 106 because I'm older and don't want to go our as far as you do. I'm all backwater. Thanks very much for taking the time to put this up.

Great review. People are constantly asking me why I don't anchor up my kayak when jigging for big snook in heavy current under bridges. It is hard to convince someone who has never tried it that it just doesn't work. When pitching up current to the structure and retrieving a jig back with the current, your anchor would be out in front of you in the way, and nothing prevents the big fish from pulling you right over the top of your anchor. PDL drive has made it possible to make more casts before having to reset and also to keep the fish out of the pilings after hookup, but that spot lock would be nice on those long nights.

I'm a paddler more than an angler, but it sure is nice to see electric boats coming into there own. I know it is about $500 for a good battery but it seems like it would make a great everyday fishing platform for inshore and fresh water. Hope they continue the development to make them lighter and better for rough water and longer runs.

Hey Elias. Those VMC Jigheads are still available at Dicks! It's hard to find light jigheads with big hooks on em. I bought a few to prepare for the fall run. PK Can't argue with a catch of such size. The Bluefin's I've caught of course also gave absolutely massive fights to pull them in (thank goodness for RI water and a motor where as much is possible) so some understanding of as much. I wish I could love kayaking, but I've never been able to do anything but spin in circles as though there's a pin through the center of the hull. Yes, with both port and starboard (I've tried paddling twice as hard with the opposite side to stop the spin but it never stops the spin - I've never been able to get one back to shore).

@@dzy5kl The concern is that it happens even of I move the oar/paddle only a foot or so, extremely slowly (1 foot in 15 seconds). They spin almost with any contact with the water. Thank goodness it doesn't happen with the Grady White just by my activating the starter!
@dzy5kl4 жыл бұрын
@@monkeymanstones1 @monkeymanstones sounds like you borrowed a short, cheap boat to be honest. Lots of rocker (vertical curve, front to back) generally makes boats easy to turn but bad for going straight. Short recreational boats tend to be bad with this. With kayaks, everything is a compromise. My boat is fast and goes straight. It's also narrow and doesn't turn all that well. But it's better than no boat. If you'd just rather stay on your GW, there's nothing wrong with that. Whatever makes you happy. Me? I can't afford a real boat. Got mine, this winter, for $50 and a case of beer. If you every want to try more kayaks out, wait until The Rona has passed and go to a demo when someone does one near you. You can try different boats just to see how they handle.

you are moving on up with the power for the boat - fishing is hard enough - eco friendly yet looks like it can really move along - my request - go out a mile or two and scout around maybe just drift and hang some frozen chum over in a bucket - kings or small tuna is what i want to see but anything interesting and diversity - you are catching some monsters inshore - offshore is always risky just go out on bluebird days but with the power now it really extends your range.

I was really looking into just spending 3200 on an outback or this, only thing that stops me from getting a 136 or 120 is the worry about the power. Charging it before, worrying about it frying etc. Still got a month to fully decide!

I heard the spot lock doesn’t work well (signal) around bridge pilings and large structure. Have you had a chance to test that yet?
@EliasVFishing4 жыл бұрын
I've spot locked pilings and my jetty so far. Only thing that seems to cause it to slip is a change in current which can happen frequently in some areas, I agree. A couple manual bumps should get you right back with ease as well. If current is mild keep the remote on a setting of 1-2 and bump it in gear as well if needed. I'll take it to the big drum loading dock soon. That place has some of the craziest current I've fished on the east coast.
