This event is actually kinda sad to watch. The announcers almost sound somber. X-Games FMX sure has fallen quite a bit from the hey day of Travis landing the first double backflip.

Exactly. Camera work was pretty wonky also. Insane tricks though with moon shot altitude and incredible distances. No fans except team members? Bummer these riders don't get a better broadcast.

The risks they’re taking is no less than back in the day when Nate Adams was sponsored by Target, and your average FMX rider was earning a doctor’s salary. These days, unless a rider has a major social media following/merch company (ie Twitch, Axell), they ain’t making but $40-60K per year!

@@mstew281z huh? I don’t think this has anything to do with nationality. No matter where they’re from, these dudes have families and responsibilities. Of course they all have passion for the sport. But if the money isn’t there, it’s really hard to justify literally risking life and limb for some short-term moto clout. If you ask me, the 50 or so dudes who are in this level of FMX deserve at least the salary of a NBA bench warmer (~$250K USD). But I get it, times have changed. It’s no longer the 90s/00s.

I get that what Rob did was hard, but Rinaldo is literally pushing the progression of Moto X before our eyes, not to mention had he had more than 4 weeks to work on it there probably would have been a backflip with that as well.

The good ol days! My brother recorded that on VHS, we used to love rewatching that particular event. Metz, Pastrana, Hart, Flyin Hawaiian, Tomcat, Deegan, Twitch etc ah man take me back! That said, there is no doubt the progression since then has been unreal! I used to think I could grow up to ride fmx… Until the flips began hahaha (backflip I think I could do but anything beyond I’ll pass lol)

I don’t think the commentary quite captures just how gnarly these tricks are. Idk but freestyle seems to be loosing the hype. But the progression of the tricks are mind blowing.

The reason I think it's losing the hype is just the way the world is going.. It's not as cool as it once was.. Tho the tricks are insane that I would never do.. But it's getting too convoluted and not that new thing.. Nor are kids flocking to it.. You have to be kinda rich to get into that sport.. But again.. The pandemic has played a major role.. Ratings were down for the changes and so far the lowest in 30 years for the Olympics.. No fans in the stadiums.. Race issues abound everywhere.. It's just not going well

I remember watching Metzger in person in Philly doing the first backflip then the next day going flip land flip and thinking that's the end of progression pretty sure that was dirt to dirt to but shamefully possibly burned them brain cells or optimized my drives cant be sure

Imagine if Tom Pagès was here! When he won the gold in freestyle motocross in 2019 his whole run of tricks seemed like contender tricks for best trick. Really liked Renaldos trick because it’s something we’ve never seen before; I like his style. Watch him do that trick while in a back flip next year! Or maybe even with a front flip! Can’t wait!

Getting the variety of feels from this one - LOVE the old school vibes of big tricks off big jumps on big open air dirt, sending it with big risks ...but, MAN it's tough to see these guys take those huge slams. But that's part of what makes MotoX best trick so special, there with step up & moto quarter pipe, mega ramp, although MX best trick may be the gnarliest of all(winter MX best trick has to be the gnarliest of them all... but, yea, it was probably a little too gnarly... lol). Big risk brings big reward, and they were sending it this year!

it was off because x games was late notice usually they have a bigger line up and more riders competing, but blame that on covid and olympics...also they riding at Axel's place usually they have a full stadium for x games with fans bringing the vibes

Hats off to Rinaldo for doing run #2 after crashing first run. I think he should have won, doing a new trick that doesn't even have a name yet. Moving all around the bike like that in mid air seems more technical than a double back flip. Can't do either so who knows, that's why we have judges! Hope everybody walked away healthy, very fun to watch.!!!

There was a lot of spills which sucks, I can only imagine how much of a toll those falls, crashes, and sliding into bushes takes on the body. But it's awesome to see X Games again and I'm glad that we got to see the full competition despite the stream breaking down! I also think David Rinaldo should have won, he threw down some real good stuff especially after getting clocked in the head by his own bike

The fact that we have progressed so much in MFX best trick that a no handed front flip gets a 74. Even though it was a little off, Is nuts. These guys are absolutely fearless. Growing up watching the xgames and seeing guys land the first backflip, then the first double, first front flip etc. I was afraid the sport would lose popularity at some point because they finally found everything that could possibly be done on a bike. I’m glad I was wrong and it’s still thriving. huge applause to these guys making stunts that could easily kill someone or leave them paralyzed ( and have paralyzed guys when they first were tried) look easy!

I feel like the course was really unfinished, the barriers were way way to close to the landings so riders were running into everything, that seems a little bit like it was just overlooked and the issue was is that it’s on the 2 step downs when you’re bringing some of the most speed downhill

They ride professionally in their respective disciplines they accel at. Progression of a sport needs professionals who are better then anyone else. Those riders influence people to buy/ sell bikes, goggles, gear, parts. So they can be like the best people will buy the same stuff their favorite athlete uses. It's sponsorship endorsements, contest winnings, hard work blood sweat and tears. These dudes risk more injury then any other athletes yet make crumbs compared to traditional sports athletes

Best trick should go to the new trick not the trick that 1/3 the field does. Just because it is "difficult" doesn't mean it looks good. Travis's Double is a poster moment. "Guy eating handle bars without hands" is not a poster moment. Need better judges. Although, I don't think this new trick was better than the Backflip Varial. So I am okay with this time. If a no hander front flip wins again I am loosing all faith in the judges.
