How medal event is judged:
1 heat of 8 athletes participating in 2 runs each. Best run counts, with the best run ranked 1-8. Judges will rank competitors throughout the contest.
One of the most exciting events in freestyle motocross is the Best Trick competition, where riders attempt to execute the most difficult and innovative tricks possible. The Best Trick competition allows FMX riders the chance to land the best trick in their arsenal for X Games gold. In this Final-only format, eight riders will have two attempts to land their best trick. Riders are judged on the overall difficulty and execution of their trick. The greater score of the two jumps is their final score.

I think it’s officially over. X games has killed off FMX. It’s been slowly dwindling for years. Courses getting cheaper and worse, events dying off, new exciting athletes not getting invites and finally here we are with the worst event, 5 riders (only 2 actually competing), 1 ramp, mobile bag landing, 500sqft parking lot course, no dirt anywhere, and the same 4 tricks we saw last year and the 8 years before that. 2 frontflips compete for gold while a double gets bronze, Taka gets last with a rock flip and MAYBE a bodyvarial if we are really lucky. RIP FMX.

Totally Agree with you, I was so Disappointed with the lack of best tricks, and i Know there are better riders with awesome tricks, But to sit here and watch the same boring tricks was just a waste of time...Nitro Circus is where its Best..

x games needs a new freestyle format, a score with 3 segments, freestyle line, best trick and a whip. Just like nitro world. And a half decent fmx course like in mineapolis. This here is just depressing to watch. Moto X used to be the raddest x games event 10 years ago or a bit more

these frontflip combos are huge but tbh i am getting a bit bored of seeing them winning every best trick context. its difficult to really see a solution though, because clearly they are very high level tricks which is why there are only 2 guys who pull them, and only a couple more who have ever landed them on a regular comp ramp if Rob and Jacko had pulled regular frontflips they would still have been first and second possibly i have forgotten something but i think only David Rinaldo has beaten a front flip in best trick since 2011

It's just X games in particular hasn't done a good job for Moto x like they did in the past. For whatever reasons moto x has fell off....but also if you still care about best trick then Nitro World games is worth your time to watch and plus you get to see them go for harder tricks because it's a bit safer with the airbags... I still watch every year though hoping X games will make Moto x great again, there's still hope

Rinaldo retired from competitions. It was his decision and X Games has nothing to do with that.

95% of people will NEVER understand how GNARLY this sport is. To the people in the comments saying this discipline “is dead” who have never thrown their leg over a dirtbike, hear me out… Without this contest we would have never got the Pastrana double back and some of the craziest body varial combinations known to man. The issue is that there’s only so much time in the air and the progression has been pushed so far, what else is there for them to do? Let’s break this down. The main complaints are about progression being stale and the use of the air bag. (These issues are 100% connected) Honestly, I am totally fine with the air bag because I personally know dudes who have been paralyzed from this sport. You have to be so precise; the margin of error is so small. The truth is, if we want to see more progression, the bag has to be there. Some will tell you that Pastrana, Pages and the few guys who did the triple flip broke this sport. I disagree. Who has done a 720 or a 360 double back since Travis? Or wilder variations of upside down body varials? Even the front flips off normal ramps are MENTAL. FMX isn’t an Ollie down a set of steps. This is the top tier of risks, and these guys need to be well incentivized, well paid, and most importantly, well protected. At this point, to do a NBD trick on a dirtbike requires you to risk your life against the odds. Too many men have died for this sport for this sport to die.

That’s why x games is killing FMX. This is truly the bottom of the barrel and these dudes are risking their lives. (Wonder why it’s only 5 guys) We need to stop going deadlier and move in the direction of skill. Skateboarding in the 90s already invented all the tricks and skaters started mastering and doing things faster, more controlled over harder terrain. FMX needs elaborate courses and creativity like events like Redbull Imagination. Quad flips are not the future. Axell is the future of the sport is dead.

You are missing the point so badly I don't think I could explain it to you. This is not what Travis Pastrana did or even close. This is the opposite. Boring, tacky, bouncy house landing spot. It was the excitement and danger in the events that drew crowds. Noone was saying that they didn't like the sport, they are literally comparing where this sport was to this event and that is why so many are disappointed. Maybe reread the comments

Xgames and FMX are dead. No more packed crowds...barely any inovation with the tricks. Few riders doing this nowadays. And most important, not a Lot of advertising. I was scrolling down YT vídeos and this showed up. Sad to see. Been watching freestyle since 2003

I USED TO ONLY WATCH, skateboarding, big air, and FMX!!! remember metzger landing a backflip on dirt, travis doing a double to dirt!!! that asian guy who got off the bike and did a body varial......these guys are landing on a pillow for god sake and not taking any chances, THIS SPORT HAS PEAKED AND IS OVER!!!!! same thing as last year and the year before and now this is the same as a couple months ago!@!!!!!!

i hate to say it but i miss the days of moto riders being gritty and crazy! not afraid to die or get seriously injured, just SENDING IT! because its fun and theyre confident. now it seems like these guys pick 1 trick and work on it for a year then do it twice and its over.....embarrassing, and i dont even ride bikes!!!
