Apologies, one minor mistake regarding the Kinsects. The Dual Colour Attack/Speed types don't actually alter damage/speed, the name implies the primary extract it will always gather. Dual Colour Attack always grabs Red & Something, Dual Colour Speed always grabs White & something. Sorry for the mistake! 🙏
@aaroncheshire38763 жыл бұрын
On this note, I think it's worth it for people to consider the rarity 2 Dual Color Defense kinsects. These will always give you orange, which as you said is really tough to get on some monsters, and the kinsect's stats are on par with the rarity 4 ones. So that could be super helpful in certain situations (although personally I prioritize red extract so strongly that I will always want to use Dual Color Attack 😅). Actually, it looks like across the board the rarity 2 kinsects' stats are on par with the rarity 4. So I don't think rarity 4 is strictly better, they just have different effects. Huh, I just found that out. Good to know. 🤔 Oh yeah, another good example! Say you really wanna lean into the paralysis powder. It could be worth using the rarity 2 kinsect that only has paralysis powder rather than the rarity 4 one that's split between paralysis and poison. Interesting...
@william_sun3 жыл бұрын
I think the most notable use for Dual Color (Speed) and Dual Color (Defense) other than if that color is hard to get from a monster is that you can immediately get earplugs with the first recall, which is useful for ignoring the monster's roar when it first aggros you. I haven't tested this on all monsters to see if it depends on monster, but if you hit a part that gives the same color as the automatic color from your Kinsect, it looks like the second color is determined by the which effect the Kinsect has. Dual Color (Attack) and Dual Color (Speed) will grab red and white, and Dual Color (Defense) will grab white and orange. One other tip is that Kinsects with Dual Color (Attack) are easily the best Kinsects to use if you ever need to farm small monsters since most small monsters won't give red extract. (Also, it's worth noting that there are a few larger small monsters that give 2 colors of extract, one from the head and one from the rest of the body.)

Some other corrections, or added info I guess: Recall Kinsect has really generous I-Frames at it's startup, which is a big part of how to get the most out of it, pulling out of combos for free with a small heal. Kinsects have no element now, but severing kinsects inherit the element from your glaive, so you can still get elemental damage out of it (useful for multi-hitting speed type kinsects, and assist types with tetraseal slash) The Razor Sharp skill is a little lower in priority in this game because IG got 33% natural razor sharp, like dual blades. Razor Sharp is still nice, but not as important anymore. Additionally, you missed the Dodge Slash, which is pulling back on the stick and pressing A in a combo. It's not always that useful, but its good for micro-positioning during combos Thanks for the great guides!

Where each color of buff comes from depends on what the monster uses that body part for. Red Buff: Comes from body parts used as a primary attack. Rathalos shoots out fireballs from his mouth so red comes from his head. Goss Harog likes to attack you with it's ice covered arms so red will come from there. Etc... Etc... White Buff: Comes from body parts used as the primary method of locomotion. Most Flying Wyverns have white in their wings. Lagombi has it's white buff on it's belly. Orange Buff: Historically came from it's most defensive part but now that Green Extract doesn't exist anymore, it's basically anywhere else that doesn't give you red or white. This one is usually the one I have the most trouble hitting in the heat of combat. I know Arekkz mentioned this briefly in the video but once you spend some time with the IG you will find that there are plenty of monsters that don't follow what seems to be intuitive "red buff from face, white from legs/wings" Example: Goss Harog's white buff is in his face. I'd give more examples but between the fact that most of that knowledge is just muscle memory by this point and the fact I can't stick with a weapon longer than five minutes before the overwhelming need to switch weapons takes me on a fever dream of a journey through the smithy crafting lists I don't have too many individual examples available off the top of my head.

One more thing to add about Kinsects is that while you can no longer manually apply elements onto your Kinsects, Sever-type Kinsects will now automatically take the element of your glaive. Blunt-type Kinsects, however, are always non-elemental.
@Johnnyb3g00d3 жыл бұрын
Also, kinsects can't crit, so critical element won't apply to them. It's likely that stamina thief and slugger also do not apply to blunt kinsects.

@Sines3143 жыл бұрын
Well that's good to know! Cut-types were always kind of useless, because it wasn't that hard to manage a single KO over the course of a fight with a blunt, but you hardly needed the kinsects help to cut off the tail (and who actually worried about the usually small differences between cut and blunt vulnerability on a monster?). So do the Kinsects just now do wholly elemental damage (that can also cut tails)? Or do they get bonus damage on top of their base, and thus will always outdamage a blunt kinsect because they have that elemental advantage? Or is it simply that a percent of raw is turned into elemental, so it's situational?
@william_sun3 жыл бұрын
@@Sines314 Unlike in World, where elemental Kinsects slightly reduce the physical damage of the Kinsect, in Rise, the element is added on top of its full physical damage. The base Kinsect attack has a motion value of 20 physical and 100 elemental. The physical attack stat used is the Kinsect's physical attack stat (e.g. 180 for a Lv. 7 Monarch Alucanid). The elemental attack stat used is the glaive's *base* elemental attack stat (Rampage skills count, but armor skills do not).

Alright, time for some math because I feel like doing this. The triple buff lasts 90 seconds. Let's assume the triple buff takes 10 seconds to reapply, which seems pretty reasonable. This means that 10% of your time is spent buffing. This is completely ignoring that fact that you can gather extracts while you don't have an opening for attacks. Even if Buff Extender made these buffs last forever, it would only be a 10% damage increase, and that's only if the monster never attacked. Even in this utterly ridiculous setup, with everything possible and then some in favour of Buff Extender, it's still almost useless.

An important detail/quirk that bears mentioning: Dual color Kinsects also widen the areas in which you can get certain extracts, because (by subtype) they always gather two types. If you find a monster is difficult to get that Orange or White buff from, chances are the other one is much easier to get. A dual color Kinsect will give you both from either spot, meaning that ~80% of most monsters gives you speed, flinch resist and earplugs in one go. It also means that, when you grab that red buff, you will get that flinch resistance at the same time from the bonus orange if you don't already have it, which is nice. Personally, I find my (slightly unorthodox) opening preference is the white/orange dual color extract from point blank range. When most monsters are engaged initially they'll roar. If you have earplugs for that after a quick extract->recall from up close, you can get a free red extract grab while they're sitting still and making useless noise. Do that, and you have the triple buff in the first ~5 seconds of the fight to start strong, and even if you somehow miss the free red grab you've got a nice long buff timer to try for red again. I highly recommend trying this out, it's very beginner-friendly and a strong opener.

one other thing, and I cannot stress this enough: CONSITUTION. if you're running an aerial focused build, just max it out if you can. it will give you so much more breathing room in the air. you can substitute it for dash juice or amplify in the same way. on a similar note, having at least one level of Latent Power also helps as it gives you a stamina boost too. very good to have around as it tends to trigger just before your dash juice runs out. and also Flinch Free. Just grab 1 level of Flinch Free. just do it, you'll appreciate it.

some mistakes: the best (raw) dps combo is forward +X ->A -> A (strong thrust, strong wide sweep, tornado slash) The kinsect recall is only good if you want to cancel an animation at the end without rolling. some notes: as tornado slash propels you forward a lot, doing a forward + x -> backwards+A -> A will do a double thrust, backflip dodge slash to reposition and then a tornado slash you can aim 30°, really good if you want to precisely hit the head, especially with assist kinsect which hits on the backward+A dodge slash. forward roundslash (the new switch skill): when it launches you up in the air you are in stage 1 aerial charge; meaning you can only laucnh yourself up in the air twice instead of three times, but also means you only need to hit two aerial pogo sticks before you can do a double damage diving wyvern (which is theoretically the highest dps you can achieve with IG)

This was a very in-depth tutorial, best one I've seen so far! I like that it seemed like you were really taking your time and making sure you covered everything in a well-structured and well-paced manner. I'm definitely sending this to my friends. 👌 The only thing I noticed that you didn't mention is follow-ups after Leaping Slash and Advancing Roundslash, both of which I think have noteworthy options. For example, being able to go straight into a Tornado/Tetraseal Slash after a Leaping Slash is real strong. And after doing an Advancing Roundslash, you can turn in ANY direction and start attacking with X, which is super helpful.

Green extract and healing bugs were pretty strong in IB. I always used a healing bug in random multiplayer Fatalis hunt, so there would always be little potion clouds all over the arena that anybody could use in a pinch or pick up as they’re attacking.

As a glaive main (but still a noob at MH, even though I've been playing since MH4U), I think it's better to explain the kinsect essences differently. Rather than "red=face, orange=chest/back, white=arms/legs." I've always found that a better way to think of it is "red=aggressive body parts, orange=core body parts, white=movement body parts." For example, if a monster mainly uses their tail to attack, their tail will give red essence, but if they mainly use it for mobility, it'll give white. This is anecdotal, and I can't remember which monster it was, but I swear there was on monster in Rise whose face gave orange, and I got really frustrated having to hit the front paws just to get my red juice up for my triple.
@Lexaegis3 жыл бұрын
I wanna add that some of the lower rarity Kinsects are actually pretty nice as well! The Dual Color (Defense) is a favorite of mine because orange is generally harder to grab in my experience, and by opening up with grabbing white and orange you can have earplugs before the monster’s first roar, and use that time to then get the red extract and have the triple color by the time the monster finishes roaring. And also severing kinsects are elemental based on your weapon element, while blunt ones are non-elemental
@OnePunkArmy3 жыл бұрын
Something missed in the video is Kinsect element. If your glaive has elemental damage, all Severing Kinsects also get that element bonus. However, Blunt Kinsects will never get any elemental damage. So if you're using an elemental glaive, you will want a Severing Kinsect for more damage.
@karuflan92153 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, kinda how the shield bashes in SnS don't make elemental damage. Does it apply to the status moves too, tho?
@OnePunkArmy3 жыл бұрын
@@karuflan9215 This does not apply to status. For raw/status, either damage type will work. It's just if the glaive has any of the five elements where a Severing Kinsect will do more damage because of the element.

What I like about the insect glaive the most is that it's a continuous DPS weapon. Even if the damage is minimal the attack never technically ends unless you either want it to end or the monster hits you. Then there's the evasion aspect of it. I remember when I fought the tigrex with this thing and we were all over the place it was a contest to see who out maneuver who. But if you're fighting a flying wyvern with this thing. Develop a keen eye bc it's very easy to lose your place if you're not paying attention. I know I'm really late to the party but I'm planning on getting a switch once I have enough money for it. And mhR will be my first purchase. So it's good to familiarize myself with my main weapon from MHW.

Thanks for the video! I didn't know about the charging aerial diving wyvern! That's so cool! I've been playing with the pukei pukei glaive running a blunt build with the dual color attack severing kinsect. A few things that weren't mentioned that I wanted to share was that an orange and red buff actually give a defense and 10% affinity buff. The affinity does go away if you get the white buff, or the timers run out. In addition, Uroktors actually can give all 3 buffs. I'm not sure about any others, but I thought I'd drop a few tid bits I've gathered using the glaive! Loved it in world and I love it in rise! Hope this helps! Thanks again for a spectacular video!
@Izajon123 жыл бұрын
Someone mentioned it, but you didn't mention the back + A move. Which goes into my personal favorite combo when using an assist kinsect of x -> x -> back + a -> a. Those last two use the kinsect to also attack with a backflip slash, then tornado slash. Thank you for the video though! I definitely learned some stuff!

When you attach the IG to the wall you don't lose the aerial charges you've got, your stamina recovers while you're there and it's also a safe way to evade some attacks while maitaining your aerial dmg charge instead of just falling flat on the ground. Oh, and I think it's good to say that the max Kinsect Level right now is lvl 8, if you use the Rampage Skill Boost Kinsect Level on a Glaive that already have lvl 8 Kinsect it will stay the same.

I've been looking at the higher tier Kinsects, but I always fall back to the two default ones, because free healing on every single essence gathering cycle is just too good to pass up on until I can effortlessly read the monsters' movements and predict the incoming attacks properly.

Only small thing I would mention in armor skills would be Power Prolonger as a pretty valuable armor skill, especially useful for new players or against monsters with tricky extract locations (I would border on saying it is almost a top priority if you're new to the glaive/not that good, due to the amount of time that gathering extracts can take such individuals).

I've been an IG main since it's introduction in 4U. I really like what they did with it in Rise, and the switch skills actually brought something to my attention I'd never though about before. There's no X+A attack input. Yeah, you can switch between your X or A combos almost whenever you want with the basic moveset, but it's kinda surprising there's no X+A input. Maybe we'll see the Tetraseal Slash or Advancing Roundslash come back with this input in a future installment. Either way, IG reigns supreme from on high. As it should be.

Just a note, something to add to what Arrekz said about the dual color type kinsect. The type also denotes what type of extract it will always grab, regardless of the part of the monster you hit. I.E: attack type will always grab a red extract, even if you hit the area that gives you white, speed type will always give white extract, and defense will always give orange extract. Otherwise this was a great vid, even as an insect glaive main I still learned a few things.

Hi! I noticed that a good move is missing, or I missed seeing it. If you are mid combo with Strong Raising Slash Combo, see at 16:58 I believe you can use Back+A to perform a kind of cartwheel backwards slash. Its great for repositioning, and is also pretty high reaching, I'll use it to get a last hit into a high tail/head and re-center myself to start a fresh forward facing combo for those times the monster flinches or moves slightly. Thanks!
