I've used this weapon for 15 years. The biggest thing that you can possibly tell any new GS user is this: Don't. Get. Greedy. You won't always be able to get a Lv3 attack in. Take the level 2 and avoid damage. If you can only get off a draw attack, do it. Don't try for something that won't work.

Been maining GS since Freedom1. A few techs to be aware of when using GS in Rise: - Adamant Charged Slash has 2 range options. The short dash happens when you let go of the analog stick after starting the animation. Long dash happens when you keep holding the stick down. - In the full tackle cancel combo into TCS/Rage, the Strong Charge Slash can be quickly cancelled into the tackle by not charging it and pressing the A button to tackle. If you're holding the X down, there is a noticeable delay before the tackle cancel happens. - Fastest gap closer into TCS/Rage isnt with the aerial zR, but by pressing X while very close to the ground. It basically cancels the aerial float animation at the start of the aerial attack and just slams the GS down on the ground. This also allows covering a much farther distance covered.
@joelhatterini63923 жыл бұрын
You forgot to talk about how the leaping wide slash is a multi hit. After a tackle, pressing A does a leaping wide slash, but by charging before the tackle, you can increase the number of hits on the leaping wide slash. For each level of charge you had before the tackle, the leaping wide slash hits an additional time, up to 3 hits for a level 3 charge. Edit: Unrelated, Quick Sheath works with Power Sheath in case anyone wanted to know and makes it bonkers.

Here’s my take on the GS: don’t be afraid to use guard / guard tackle. Yes it eats your sharpness, but you only hit the monster once every 6 months anyway, so the rate of sharpness lose isn’t as bad as you think. And guard tackle does more damage & stun value as well, so there’s an upside in itself. I myself tend to tank anything that comes to me when using GS, so guard tackle & rage slash really works well for me. Then again, using GS is about commitment, so i’ll happily take some damage for a super armor and a surefire hit.

Two things I've noticed: 1) The second hit of TCS only gets powered up if the first hit strikes a monster's weakpoint 2) Adamant Charge Slash's forward dash can be shortened if you release the Analog Stick *immediately* after firing the Wirebug (you can still charge your slash while doing this) which means you can freely choose whether you use it close or long range

One big tip when using guard tackle, to make it MUCH better : With the classic tackle, you want to use it JUST as the monster attacks, as the window of invulnerability is small. With the guard tackle however, the window is way longer. So you want to hit your guard tackle before the monster releases their attack, so you guard it with the very end of the move, and can go immediatly into a true charge slash/rage slash, and don't have to wait through the lenghy animation.

GS is so fun! I play with Rage Slash because of the Armor and the ability to change directions, actually super important. A couple things that could be added, if you use Strong Charge Slash to Strong Wide Slash (like at 14:10), you can continue charging into TCS or Rage Slash. So if a monster is downed (especially if you're using Rage Slash), your best ability to do damage will probably come from Strong Charge Slash to Strong Wide Slash into charging a Rage Slash if you have the time. The other thing that could be added is that if your weapon is sheathed and you want to get to tackle really quickly, you can draw your weapon with shield (ZR), immediately roll (B), and tackle (X) out of that, then go on to continue with charges. It's so fast most of the time you don't even see any semblance of shielding and just see roll-tackle (which is otherwise impossible with weapon sheathed). Very nice video, I look forward to more content from you!
@gooddayz83473 жыл бұрын
Tackle would be faster though
@Melonbunny3 жыл бұрын
@@gooddayz8347 You know, I had never actually considered draw-charge-tackle. It seems about just as fast as roll (roll animation vs. when you can actually tackle after draw-charge) but it also doesn't cost stamina. Wanted to add a some notes for sake of a couple things, in regards to TCS Power TCS (the damage increase) is not caused solely by hitting the first part, you need to hit the first part on a hitzone >=45, you can check on the Toadversary's leg, it will not apply this damage increase or show the text change in regards to most of GS' charge attacks while the damage is increased, an aspect of that damage increase is a multiplier to the Raw Hitzone of the hit part (Raw Hitzone being the value in the Hunter notes that represents the relative amount of damage you deal comparatively per part) for most Charged sword attacks this is 1/1.1/1.2/1.3x (the first being for an uncharged attack) Standard aerial Charges do not have this, however Hunting Edge's Variants do usually have this (I've seen cases where it doesn't apply and I'm honestly not sure why) Leaping Wide Slash as an exception has 1/1.1/1.1/1.1 Guard Tackle while utilizing the sword does not have it either
@KyzaelEomei3 жыл бұрын
So coming from a long time Greatsword main, I think my opinion has some solid credibility (despite being a nobody). Between the Switch Skills. Tackle is better than Guard Tackle. TCS =/= Rage Slash. These two are equal in my opinion in viability. Both have their places and their playstyles. There is no wrong choice here. Hunting Edge is heavily outclassed by Adamant Charged Slash. There is not a situation where I will ever justify this move. This is not because of how good Adamant is, but simply on how poor Hunting Edge is. It is slow, you can't aim it, and costs TWO wirebugs. 100% of the time, you should be running Adamant Slash. NOW armor skills. Yes, there are good damage skills but we are here for the exceptional skills that can define the weapon. The first one is Focus, this is a no-brainer. It is an increase to your attack speed due to reduced charge times. There is a situation where you can run WITHOUT Focus on Rage Slash to really push the timing for extra hyperarmor. BUT Almost as equally important now for the Greatsword is STUN RESISTANCE. Yes. Stun Resistance. Despite your Hyperarmor in Tackle, Rage Slash, and Adamant Charged Slash. You can still be stunned during these moves if you take damage. If you have spare Lvl 1 decoration slots, this should be your #1 priority. And on my final notes, Recovery Speed x3 is very nice for the Hyper-armor GS playstyle as it will be able to let you save a couple potions in your hunts, due the high damage resistance you received during your attacks. TLDR: Tackle > Guard Tackle. Rage Slash =/= True Charged Slash Adamant Charged Slash >>> Hunting Edge Suggested armor skills: Focus Stun Resistance Recovery Speed.

I'm sorry....but at 3:15 did you CHARGE the Plunging Thrust!? I have well over 350hrs in this game solo as GS hunter and never not once did that. How did you charge that?

At 15:46 when explaining the X>A>X>A>X shortcut is there specific timing cos my game will not let me tackle out of a charge....what am I doing wrong?

you forgot to mention that the plunge atttack can be charged as well, therefor increasing the wide leaping slash after. otherwise great video and series.

You can't Adamant Charged Slash with a sheathed weapon. Gotta draw it first

its a shame this series never got around to being finished cause it wouldve been really great for new players getting into the other weapons not covered yet, especially with the sunbreak dlc coming out around the corner. i understand the work put into these vids tho so i can respect it. i hope it comes back around once the dlc comes out and the new switch skills are introduced!

Thanks to much for your tutorials! They were a huge help in MH World and are already a huge help in Rise. Do you have a Switch Axe tutorial video coming up? I'd love to see your breakdown of that as well.

I believe if you tank a hit while charging Rage Slash it increases in damage
