Hammer has been my main since World, thank you. I would also like to add that as a weapon that you can charge you can get an extra jump while airborne simply by just charging your hammer. This allows for some extra mobility that the other weapons do not have since after you charge midair you can move in any direction. It may take a bit to get a feel for positioning yourself well when pulling off yourself well but I think it is a very good way to not just add more mobility, but also conserve bugs. I use this technique when jumping over large monsters that are charging towards me and I also use it to close large gaps between monsters much quicker for various situations like taking advantage of a monster's long animation to get free bonks (i.e Rajang's Kamehameha beam attack). If using up all of your bugs to get closer to a monster turned out to ba a bad idea and it looks like all hope is lost for saving yourself from being launched directly into an attack this technique can also be used as an evasive maneuver to pull yourself to safety or better position yourself to counterattack. You can still do ledge hopping too but I don't know if it is as effective as it was in Monster Hunter World. You earned yourself another subscriber and like, great vid!

one very important thing I don't think a lot of people are aware of is when a monsters near a ledge, just roll off ledge and R2 back at the monster, rinse and repeat, you get ridiculous damage output this way when near a ledge and a lot of movement control still along with high KO damage from the jumping R2 attack.

Just some watching of other videos, I think you're really discounting that second hit the Courage Stance's Light Blue Charge gives. Also coming out of a stance give you a full charge, so you can essentially combo from the Courage's Additional Slam into a level three crater. I think the thing that throws off an analysis of the skill is that it works well in battle but not in a raw lab setting. Since the training dummy doesn't move for sure your longer and heavy moves in Strength Stance are gonna out DPS it, but when you're dodging and weaving holding a charge is much more difficult and you aren't gonna have every second of the fight to just do your drawn out DPS combo. Just some thought cause I came looking for why should I bother using Courage after unlocking it

You can do a much faster and slightly less damage (but slightly more KO damage) golf combo by pressing Y, B, Y (X, A, X on Switch). This gets the golf swing out faster and side smash has more KO than overhead smash II.

I believe you're wrong about a hammer having higher raw means more stuns- Each attack has an assigned Stun and Exhaust value, regardless of the raw on the weapon. Doing more damage overall would cause more partbreaks, and thus more staggers, though.

If you don't know what weapon to make always make the nargacuga weapons. They have a little bit lower attack but a nice bit of white and blue sharpness and they all have 40%+ affinity to start at which will give you space to fit in agitator or attack boost in your hammer builds or even more affinity in your other weapon builds

I think the thing everyone is missing about Courage mode is the flinch free during those combos, which admittedly is a really mild benefit for meta hunters. But, if you're playing with your kid, a greenhorn, fighting a trippy boi like Tobi, or have any LS hunters on your team, it should definitely be considered. I'd also add that water strike + courage's flinch free allow hammer a lot more tank-ability to just eat shit that would have bothered/hurt/slowed us prior. It's not a Lance's guard by any stretch, but if you use them together consistently, (likely with diversion in the set somewhere), you have as close as hammer can be to a 'proper' tank. Really lightens the pressure on greenhorns you might be playing with.

Rise has been a weird MH iteration for me. I've always used fast weapons like the insect glaive, duel blades and SnS, but I don't even know what my ''main'' will end up being when all is said and done. I started out using gun lance, a weapon that I had never used before, and I love it, now the hammer and switch axe are becoming really fun for me, two more never used weapons for me. I think the increased mobility you have in Rise, because of the switch skills/silkbind moves, has made traditionally slow weapons much more fast-paced and appealing to me. And even the weapons I have used extensively in past games feel better than ever.

I played some world when it was popular 3-5 years ago. I was so about dual blades then. But when i started and tried dial blades they felt like paper toys and so i started experimenting with new weapons. A did gunlance for a few battles and i did like it. But something qas missing. I then tries the hammer and was sponning to victory. I accidently switched to cottage one battle and didn't know how the next few but i had great success with it. I found a really nice rhythm with courage where i could just charge up to 3 and a lot of times could let it fly. After each attack usually i will run away while charging to avoid the monsters attack and right when it gets to 3 in usually getting in pretty close and bonking head. I dont know if it's the fastest but i just hit high rank. No big achievement, but i barely took any damage and didn't ever fail any missions. I clicked on this video because i literally only do the one attack but it works well for me. I do want to try some of these other combos and abilities. I never use my flies so doing the impact crater seems pretty awesome. One thing i like about courage, is the animation is an overhead swing that is brought down. So with good positioning i can about 50/50 line it up to hit 2 weak points. It's slower but more methodical and with good positioning i think it's quite strong. I'm not or have i ever been a MH pro. So these are my novice 2 cents. It's slower but i think that helps me also a bit because i can focus on positioning rather than combos. I didn't even know you could dodge while charging. I can usually get 2 full charge hits one the monster when i stun it. The only down side to this style of play, i play on steam deck and after several hours my hand behind to cramp from doing the same move and holding it at times over and over. Thanks for the video in going to try to expand my arsenal. I've been knowing there are obviously more moves, but as the old saying goes...if it ain't broke, why fix it.

Two questions: 1. Have you tried to roll after big bang combo before switching to yellow? I think it shaves a few frames off for certain monsters. I did not actually calculate the time, but it feels faster when i was using it on some monsters 2. I want to make courage work and i was thinking to just whiff attack 1 and charge a full 2 and a full 3. The other thing i was thinking was focus build. Not sure if you have any testing or thoughts on that one.

They are really trying hard to put something new on the hammer but most things either end up obsolete, doesnt provide much utility, and dependent only when the monster is down or stuck on a long windup animation which is kinda boring for the hammer, example being all its silkbind attack and bigbang combo. What hammer really needs is its neutral gameplay cause it can already make its opening via KOs, i am really hyped when valor hammer make a return via switch skill but after learning how horrible it was and have nothing new to provide on the hammer, i became really disappointed. They have wasted its potential in improving hammer's neutral play. Also about the counter, its cool and all and i really like it as an addition, but it being inaccesible during charging state is kinda clunky against certain situation where you need to counter really fast. Just my unpopular opinion for being a hammer main for too long.
@PWARGaming
@PWARGaming 3 жыл бұрын
can't say i disagree. to me, impact crater is hammers main saving grace and just barely. meanwhile most weapons got much more op skills or better utility skills. the counter, while good, is hard to use and mix in for sure, altho its nice to block roars. spinning bludgeon on demand is cool, but without the normal ride mechanic its use is limited and most of the time you'd be saving for impact instead. courage being totally wasted and dash breaker being kinda meh hurts hammer overall. i think a buff would be nice to those abilities. hindsight i think dash breaker is mostly ass when you could just hold charge and run around an attack instead, so another wasted slot so to speak. most speedruns don't use anything hammer got aside impact or the occasional counter for roars

yah the small dash does have some s but haven't fully tested if reliable for most attacks. going blue to yellow fast for a full charge bonk is nice sometimes if you don't have time to charge and near the monster tho. most of the time its just a means to get full charge impact crater without charging blue prior.

If you're talking about the hammer icon next to your sharpness being blue, then you typically want to stay in blue charge (assuming you're using the default Charge Switch: Strength switch skill). This has all of your quickest and highest damaging moves. However, by switching from blue to yellow, you instantly get a full charge, which allows you to quickly set up a full-power Impact Crater. However, I recommend going back into blue charge right afterwards.
@PWARGaming
@PWARGaming 3 жыл бұрын
blue is the best option, like i said when discussing yellow "basically no point in ever using yellow mode". blue mode>switch to yellow mode gimmick is only good for impact crater combo, mostly, otherwise you wanna charge in blue to do uppercuts or lv3 forward slams against the monster. you CAN charge to lv3 and still do impact crater in blue, but again the blue>yellow gimmick is faster FOR, specifically, impact crater. hopefully that clears up confusion. if you got confused by "courage" that just changes your default blue set. but you wouldn't use courage, you would use strength, which has the superior BLUE moveset imo. both are blue moveset skills, but stength is the moveset you want.

strem today later on, dunno when specifically. LS might be next, or charge blade, one of those. both have lots quirks to cover so it'll be a while before i can get one done

Courage seems like its used to chase monster down since all of the "down" time chasing a mobile monster turns into charge windows.. Still not a big fan of it

bro why did you left out aerial attacks? hammer's greatest strength is the aerial infinite I still don't know if Rise has the aerial hammer like it's predecessors because nobody talks about it in these videos

You can still do aerial moves dont worry. You can also add wirebug moves to combos for more damage output

Lol, I watched the hammer video first because people said it was the easiest weapon for new players, and it still has like 20 fucking mechanics. What a garbage franchise.

I think it's the pacing, it all goes by really fast, even some of the words on the screen disappear too quickly before I could finish reading it without pausing

Takes a while to get used to it, but once you learn how to position yourself and manage to land your shots by predicting where the head will be, you'll fall in love.
