Aside from the invader mechanic, the fact that you know where every monster in the game is on a map that is always on screen is actually one of my least favorite things about Rise. The search could be a lot more fun in a game as fast as this, especially with the extra buffs and items you can pick up around the map, or the high spots you can use as vantage points.

There's also no real surprise factor when you start a quest or go into an expedition - in World, seeing that "?" sign on an expedition or quest or Guiding Lands expedition was exciting because most of the time I had no idea what I was going to encounter - was it a new subspecies, variant, or even a new unrelated monster? I think Valstrax's ambush attack is a precursor for what they intend to add in Sunbreak, giving more monsters "invading" attacks. I do think having to react to the suprise of an invader is fun, but I disagree that it ever inspired fear or that the mere existence of an invader did anything more than give a sense of "oh, that's here too; neat." Making them more aggressive towards players would increase difficulty, but more difficulty doesn't automatically equal more fun. It would get real old real fast, and we'd just resort to dung podding them every time to not deal with it anyways. For that, I think World did it best with invaders jumping the player, maybe getting in a turf war that was fun to watch, and then just being in the area too; which is kinda neat.

I don't think World did the invasion mechanic well, imo. My biggest problem with it is just how frequently monsters invade your fight, start their scripted roaring contest, and then proceed to get dung bombed and leave. Like I said, it just happens so frequently per hunt that it just becomes super annoying and really takes me out of the immersion of the fight. How cool is the fact you can ride those monsters and utilize them as a weapon. This is rise and rise stands for it's own for me. Just like any other MH alteration. Personally, I feel like rise is too easy and monsters not ganging up on hunters is a part of that problem. Somehow I think there is logic behind the fact a Tigrex would fight another apex predator like Anjanath when they enter each other's areas and not bother for the annoying two legged thing that tripple pokes it with it's lance (just kidding, we all know there are no lance players in rise). That being sad, I'd love to see both of them team up on 4 hunters though, treading them like the snack they represent for such powerful creatures. Honestly, being a new player who hopped on World about a Year and a half ago and Rise only recently, I feel like Rise was kind of a test to see how far they could bring the MonHun formula in the direction of Action-Game. Sticking to that philosophy the developers made a lot of changes that pulled Rise away from previous games' systems. Whether that is good or bad is a matter of opinion, but I really liked the direction they went while also really enjoying the previous systems that were in World and respecting the ones I've seen from previous games. In my opinion people go a little too hard on Rise because they expect it to be just like the previous games only expanded while I think the developers were meaning to purposefully test how far they can go in one direction with MonHun and still ended up making an incredibly fun and enjoyable experience. However I honestly respect and agree with all of the criticisms of Rise in the context of comparing it to the older games, I just don't think thats what the developers were aiming for. Maybe a slight change in marketing would have been better for certain players who actually hate Rise for these changes as the devs could have better voiced how much the formula would change. Don’t get me wrong, he was there, but I’d say it was more about 1/4 of the time. I liked his concept because it explained why he was constantly showing up - it’s a nomadic monster who has to keep eating to sustain itself. Bazelguese almost had that same magic, but for me it appeared way too often and because a nuisance more than anything. And then Iceborne, for some god forsaken reason, had 4 invaders, most of which weren’t interesting because they were subspecies of well known monsters, and thus were easy to telegraph and less threatening. And Banbaro… come on, man. It’s clearly a monster built for one singular locale, so why would you make it travel to others? They should have kept it at Savage Deviljho, Tigrex(another ravenous, angry monster that can travel anywhere), and maybe Rajang if they had to. It’s so stupid.

@@songbird6414 Exactly my thoughts. They really ruined it in IB, they were so damn prevalent that it wasn't a surprise, it was just an interruption that stalled nearly every single hunt. Doubled with how annoying it was to get them to leave, it really left a sour taste in my mouth. Seeing the "?" next to the target monster in previous games was never a guarantee you'd run into them, and it should've stayed that way.

I dabbled into monster hunter games on 3ds and GU but only really started playing when I got world on ps4. One of the most memorable moments of my time in world is when I was hunting a barroth with my friend who had been playing since day 1 and suddenly he told me to run and then bazel came crashing down on us and barroth. It was terrifying and awesome and I love bazel for it. Sad to see what they did to them in Rise

I also feel the same could be said of the Elder Dragons at least in presence. In Rise they feel like normal monsters now albeit they are still some of the more difficult targets. Back in Gen 1 and 2 the map would be devoid of all monsters except for Remobra which in lore follow Elder Dragons (EDs) and Neoptereons like Vespoids, likely just to annoy players (and the Gunner Master Race of old specifically). The lack of monsters was explained as all other monsters getting the hell out and as far away as possible because they don't want to mess with or even be near an ED. And the old repelling mechanics also made it appear that this was an epic battle between you and a specific foe that eventually ended in you having tracked down your adversery over great distances and dealing the final blow. Not to mention their quests wouldn't be permently available and would cycle in and out to show their rarity since they travel around so much. In 3rd gen there were no "normal" EDs. All 3rd Gen EDs were fought in a siege or special arena setting. In 4th gen small monsters would be on the map, but would run away if it entered the zone and even things like Rhenoplos would leave immediately. They also got rid of the old school repel mechanic and only Rusted Kushala in 4U kept that mechanic. In base World the map would be devoid of all monsters except for in the Vale for Hazaak's Effluvium mechanic and Odogaron. This was also the first time 2 EDs could appear in 1 quest as this explained by them gathering in the area due to the Elder Crossing. However, while they had presence they were now "normal" quest monsters being that you had to kill them in the duration of 1 quest like a normal hunt now. No repelling mechanic except for in story beats and for Zorah and Kulve. Then in Iceborne EDs could now appear in Expeditions and there could be 1 large non-ED monster on the map with them. In Rise their presence is nerfed. They now appear with 2 other large monsters with no issue and the map will be now fully inhabited. Their presence doesn't have the same gravitas anymore

I was screaming in fear the whole time until it finally hit its breath attack on me, oneshotting me... and the quest was on the last faint. So a nargacuga hunt failed, because I joined and got hunted by this invader, before ever getting to the Nargacuga...

Invaders are unironically scary. One of my first experiences with them was hunting a Deviljho in mhgu only for a Savage Deviljho to show up and crank the intensity to overkill levels. The new changes to Rise are nice but they trivialize the "hunt" part of the game in favor of focusing solely on combat. Loved the video man, great work as always!

Maybe they should ad back loading zones back but in a way to split a gigantic map to 3-4 pieces of the map but make it so some monster can spawn or sleep or appear in one map and when you are hunting a specific monster and it runs to another split map it can make you and the other monster aware of your present and do the invader macanic but this will be a problem cause if you insta kill a monster Right in a area and not go anywhere else it won't happen and some players when hunting a group of different monsters will have to back track to find them but this can be solve by when a certain time the monster will flee instantly to another split zone with a tunnel or the thing in monster hunter rise and with the introduction of many camps you can fast travel fast
@Edwardin19892 жыл бұрын
Or they could put ??? Instead of a monster Icon for the invader and not make it mountable. It would also be cool if they add back the random starting area and delayed supplies in the camp. They could lock the camp box and your box for the 1st half of the run. They tag this as an "unstable quest".

Honestly I feel like there should be a tradeoff for wyvernriding, like for instance both the monster you ride and the monster you use it against getting instantly enraged and staying in the zone to fight you
@dennynavarra2 жыл бұрын
From my experience, Rise also seams to have a script in place where monster dont interact if one of them cant be ridden. As there is a timer in place after you performed a wyvern ride. During that timer if by chance 2 monsters meet, one of them while almost instantly move to another area. At best you get a roar. Kinde ruined my first Rise experience with Rajang as i was running after him for majority of the "hunt". Though he wasnt the main target, rather the invader. Therefore i had an invader run away from me for 15min, how the mighty have fallen.

One of my biggest problem with wyvern riding, other than the fact that you can't ever fight 2 monsters at once, is that it completely halts the momentum of the hunt. Me or my friend would just have to stop playing until the other had ran the monster into a wall 3 times, twice, every. single. fight.

I mean, you can always hunt monsters in the arena if you don't like the hunting aspects of the game. You have to capture the monster first to unlock the optional quest.
@darksavior11872 жыл бұрын
Maybe Sunbreak can make invaders more interesting. Apex versions of monsters are already immune to being ridden, so master rank versions of Furious Rajang, Bazel, and Valstrax could be made so, and perhaps with more invader specific behaviors added, and if we're really lucky, Savage Deviljo. If we are super insanely lucky, Nergigante can show up and mess with Elder Dragon quests (and maybe a special conflict with Magnamalo). I am fine with regular other monsters still being advantages like in base game, but invaders should be a real pita for players and their hunts.
@anenemystand55822 жыл бұрын
I've said before that the reason I like world is because of how alive everything feels. There's a great sense that these monsters are kinda just existing and doing their thing in this world. Say what you want about the game as a whole but I'd say that is one thing it has over every other monster game. My biggest problem with rise is that it feels comparatively lifeless. Knowing where the monsters are from the start discourages exploration in favor of going straight to the marker. It also makes the map feel more like an arena than a little section of the world. The way the monsters interact with each other thanks to wyvern riding feels just so... gamey and unnatural. I'd rather there just be a chance for a turf war or that your life gets way more difficult with essentially a three way battle. It's like the streamlined the life straight out of the game. Now that was pretty negative so I want to say I still like the game a lot. The new elder dragons are just great fights, not because they're Uber difficult but because they make you actually use the new mechanics in a way that is fulfilling. And I love the new mobility. Having all these ways to recover and move are fun and they flow well. The problem is most monsters don't feel like they have any counters to the added mobility. Rathalos moves pretty much the same as always and that makes him easy to bully. I don't think any of these changes are inherently bad. They just need to Amp up the monsters in a way that makes the new mechanics feel rewarding and neccesary. P.s it would be kind of funny if wyvern riding a monster actually made it get up in an enraged state and it's focus purely on you. That would atleast add a little risk.
@kurosan00792 жыл бұрын
World's invasion mechanic was *almost* perfect, but Iceborne fucking botched it. I didn't mind getting spitroasted by monsters, but making Banbaro, Fulgur, and Ebony invader monsters was a mistake. There's simply too much. It should've just been Rajang, Deviljho, Bazelgeuse, and (maybe)Tigrex. I hope in MH6, they hold back a little. Limit the number of invaders to 5 or less, make the ai better so it doesn't become a screaming contest, and no more copy-pasted turf wars (like I'd be okay with fewer monsters if it means turf wars are actually unique).
@ColetheFlame01 Жыл бұрын
yeah honestly, as a newcomer to Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter World and subsequently Iceborne, is my first time ever in the franchise. I like how it flows and sure while having the Bazelgeuse fight the monster I was fighting "helped", I knew the second I got more involved besides looking I was bound to find myself carpet bombed. same with Deviljho, if I got involved I could almost guarantee I'd be running as fighting anything alongside a Deviljho that isn't a Great Jagras is practically suicidal in the game. I was always scared of fighting multiple monsters at once and it felt great. Rise honestly looks like a step down from what World showed and it kinda hurts in some strange way.

That moment when even Monster Hunter Stories 2 has actual invaders but Rise doesn't ... And not just invaders scripted for the plot (you meet two as you progress through the story, an Anjanath early game and a Bazel towards the end), you can get randomly invaded while fighting monsters on the map, I found out while I was fighting a Brute Tigrex and suddenly a WARNING message showed up and before I could realize what was going on The Pickle itself joined the fight D:

There’s so many small changes you could make to rise to make invaders cool again and be an “oh shit” moment not an “oh nice” moment, have other monsters often leave the area do invaders can still get the element of surprise by invading immediately on spawn, have invading monsters stay behind after you wyvern ride them and maybe even have it enrage them so they’re an even bigger threat, or at least remove the boosted wyvern ride damage on invaders.
@TheUruse2 жыл бұрын
I really never thought about that. I'm Gen 1,2 and partially 3 player (Portable 3rd) and I do remembered the egg quest suddenly Rathalos appeared, it is terrifying. But I feel like after playing World and then Rise it seems like it's a total step down to what World was doing. Yes I know it is a Switch game but it's... you know. Oh and one thing I thought Dragonator is a scarce thing that the old world(pre-MH) left but Kamura have dozens of them and now it seems just become trivial.
@dime72672 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think they need to add something in the system so that the game actually tags them as invader monster. That way mount gauge doesn't build for them easily, but I'd in fact 3 times if not more harder to ride them. I remember being so excited to see bazel in the map for the first time as an invader, and being completely disappointed that he really didn't even seem to try to engage the fight at all.

I don’t understand why magnamalo is the only monster that can actually attack you after invading. Like he shows up, gets it to fly away, does some sick flips to get up to it and then uses it to dive bomb you. I feel like just making monsters stick around/have ambushes also deal damage to you would go a long way towards making rise the just objectively better world that I know it could be.
@pesky12332 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the main thing that should change is the amount of hits it takes to trigger a wyvern ride and stopping the risen monsters from leaving immediately after the ride. If they made the amount of monster hits required to trigger a ride to be much higher and make the monsters actually fight each other and the hunter while in the zone before a ride is triggered then that would probably fix a lot of the issues with invaders.
@sir_coma602 жыл бұрын
They could make invaders, or all monsters, have much higher wyvernride thresholds, and don't always go for each other. This setting is enabled in multi-monster arenas, so i dont see why they didn't make it all the same. Even world knew if u could cc an invading monster easily it would be a non-threat, and so non-targets have their mount threshold increased.
