There technically are undodgable attacks, such as Alatreons Escaton Judgment or Safis Sapphire of the Emperor. But while these aren't "dodgeable", they are avoidable, be that by hiding behind a rock, or approaching the Monster in a way that makes the undodgable attack survivable
@MH3Raiser3 жыл бұрын
Also, this review is much more specifically focused at GenU as a representative of games before World. You'd be hard pressed to find ANYTHING you couldn't dodge or block in those games.
@ChunkyTheClown3 жыл бұрын
Also, those mechanics only existed in World due to developer experimentation, and only on a handful of DLC Monsters (Behemoth, Safi'Jiva, Alatreon, and Fatalis). For the vast majority of the series, they are not included, and for good reason. I personally hope mechanics like that won't return in future titles because the way they break up a fight in order to interact with only your health bar and not your actual HP, defense, and character model makes them feel fundamentally NOT Monster Hunter to me. Dying to an attack that kills you in one hit because you chose not to make a set capable of surviving the blow is one thing, but an attack that can't be avoided with the core mechanics of the game and automatically kills you regardless of armor or item buffs is just too artificial and "video gamey" to fit with what the series stands for.
@MojoPjojo3 жыл бұрын
@@MH3Raiser as someone who is playing through genU right now with about 100 hours i really feel like plenty of monsters have attacks that will instantly hit you if you're too close to the monster. Stuff like rathian's running attack or like 50% of everything yian garuga does.
@MH3Raiser3 жыл бұрын
@@MojoPjojo In all seriousness, if you're standing under a Rath monster after it turns to face you, or standing so it doesn't have to turn as a tell, then you deserve to get hit, speaking from countless experiences of GETTING hit. Yes, Rath charges often had hitboxes from the start of the attack, but they could only be used in a straight line and would turn to target before they fired, giving plenty of time to get out of the way. Half the skill of old school MH was figuring out the safest angles to be standing against a monster, Raths typically don't have many 'no tell' moves that hit their sides. Another example would be behind Tigrex's wings; most monsters even now have 'safe angles' and 'danger angles'. So while yes, that is TECHNICALLY true, it's perfectly possible to play in a way that reduces those hits down to a near zero number, that is if you respect the monster and don't try for extra damage you can't safely get

I am having fun and I like that even when I join up with random people I’m still able to beat the hardest monsters. Obviously not all the time but a lot of the time I can. There's also the tracking element that, combined with the lack of a health bar, creates an atmosphere of hunting an animal rather than fighting a boss. One of the reasons some people have been slightly turned off by Rise is the quality of life changes which weaken that atmosphere (namely the red arrow and removal of hot and cold drinks).
