In lions the manes serve two purposes 1. Dominance and physical fitness 2. Protection in combat from rival males Given that Doshaguma seem to have manes in both male and females (from what we know so far) it seems that this species may go through a lot of in fighting while still being social animals. I’m thinking it’s kind of like Hyena society where the stronger individuals bully the smaller ones into submission with the bigger Alpha being at the top of the pecking order. It could also be that within a pack the smaller ones fight often to increase their standing within the group. Just a theory though and I’m looking forward to learning more about the monsters in this game.

I wonder if Alpha Doshagumas are females and the little one-star Doshagumas are her cubs?

It is possible. It’s interesting that these ones are all 1 star expect for the alpha, I’ve seen non-alphas with up to 4 and 5 star ratings, but can’t remember if the ones following the alpha were ever higher. I don’t think these are babies though, I think the alpha is just a notably larger and stronger individual

@@Ashamran They could be her almost grown cubs, being big enough to be mistaken for adults but are still dependent on mom for guidance and protection.

I feel like the alphas are males with certain body chemistry that change how they look compared to females, like how male orangutans have a different face structure than the females. How one male becomes an "Alpha" would probably require a large intake of said chemistry.

Could also be the alpha is male and the rest of the pack is made up of his mates and/or subadult offspring

Hoping for a real big Doshaguma pack to be happening in the full game. Just like what the Devs has shown to us during MH Wilds reveal trailer.
