I think one good solution to the bad controls situation is to remove the charge mechanic. They should transfer that to a buff when you get triple extracts. So if ou get red extract you gain more moves (like it was on MHW and rise) and if you got all 3 extracts you would "get charged" gaining even more moves and the big finishers with circle (on ps5). WIth this, the necessity to hold circle while doing other things would vanish and we wouldn't need 3 hands to play animore. And with the bounce thing that everybody is complaining, they could just limit it a little bit instead of entirely removing the thing. Like just limit to 1 or 2 bounces before needing to hit the ground again. This would open up entirely new moves and playstiles and it would keep it fair.

The amount of idiots in these comments who think the changes to IG are good if it "sacrifices aerial" are exactly why Capcom has to reverse the changes, tourists who think zero earplugs or having to collect ALL essences to enhance combos just to lose the buffs with the new awkward and unwieldly rising slash simply do not get it. Parroting that ground based combat is what IG is about when it is outperformed by any other weapon without having any dynamic gameplay or advantage is wanting it to be third class for no good reason, just because aerial movement wasn't "true to the weapon" lmfao.

something else i want is one of the new mechanics like the offset moves, the clashes and the perfect dodges. ig got none of those, just one of them would be cool.

First of all, purely looking at speedrun times, ig was middle of the pack. It's damage wasn't stripped away by any means. Don't get me wrong, I love iceborne ig, it was my first fatalis solo, but it's a horribly designed weapon. The kinsect mark barely works and the clouds they release just make visual clutter that rarely affect the fight whatsoever. The aerial simultaneously did less damage than grounded and manipulated the monster's moveset that was intended for fighting grounded hunters. The grounded moveset was really good, it had quick attacks and high mobility but the tornado slash landed like a truck if you wanted to punish aggressively. Unfortunately, outside of that moveset it's only other interesting mechanic was collecting extracts every few minutes when they arbitrarily fall off and take away your fun moveset (we should agree on this, it was a problem for both aerial and grounded). Kinsect extracting was also boring and felt forced into the kit after the fact, and feels less atrocious the more speed your kinsect has (which has a counter synergy with the kinsect drill lmao). Kinsect drill also only works consistently on a handful of matchups, so slowing down your kinsect intentionally for that is a weird tradeoff. Did wilds address these problems? Absolutely. You can extract with weapon attacks now, removing the awkward buff collection phase and allowing us to get straight into weapon combat. The kinsect now attacks alongside us, making the kinsect visually part of the entire kit now, not something we use for 10 seconds then forget about. it works consistently unlike the dust. We can now choose when to unload our buffs, giving us more control over the flow of gaining and losing buffs. The vault also lets us pop wounds out of reach of most other weapons, keeping it's relevancy. It's the perfect iteration of the weapon

@@GalactoseGalaxy i cant agree more with you the jumping was so irrelevant anyways yes sure its fancy looking and fun but i never seen any point doing it seriously i love what they did in wilds and i thinks its becoming even more of a underdog now but ppl who have an actual clue still stick to it and enjoy it even more

You forget the biggest downgrade....being forced to collect all 3 buff to get the advanced combats. This is my biggest complaiin about it, IG will not be my main weapons because of it. They are no way I will bother to collect the orange extract form hard reaching part of every monster. Also I prefet Insect drill over spiral slash, the news move give me automatic move vibe.

@@nahtaniel8027 tbf I figured it was common sense to collect every colour Kinsect essence before properly engaging the monster with IG I always figured that not doing so would be like never bothering to charge your shield with Charge Blade or not levelling up your spirit gauge with Longsword Apologies if I missed some major advantage to only gathering a certain colour extract (red) as I don’t play IG that much

I was a little thrown off by the expanded moveset being relegated to the triple up to, however, i learned near the end of the beta that changing focus mode from hold to toggle and using focus mode attacks with my silly little bug kinda made getting extracts pretty easy since wounding a monster just isn’t that difficult to do. I mean theoretically you could even use a weapon that creates wounds super fast to get the monster all wounded up and then swap to IG and punish after the fact, starting with triple extracts and controlling the flow of battle entirely since all you gotta do is break that wound babyyyyyy

This is a real big of downgrade for the weapon. The aerial mobility was the key component of Insect Glaive so I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea. I like that they added some new attacks but removing the aerial prowess of the weapon seems not worth it tbh. Who knows, maybe they include it in the expansion like in Sunbreak with the Diving Wyvern, or something.

Y’all keep talking about numbers for aerial but what about FUN?! They took the FUN outta the damn weapon! And people keep comparing it to World as if Rise didn’t make aerial combat amazing. Geez Louise, the downgrade is insane with the cumbersome controls to boot. They gutted IG and unfortunately it will lose in usage because of these weird changes

One of the big issues that plagues all the weapons for the most part in terms of their weight in attacks is the lack of proper hit stop like in the prior games.

This game was so boring for me without the flying IG. So I'm sad about that... It gaves me the "arcade" gameplay sensations I love when play a game. Im not into that kind of game usually but I really really loved MH iceborn because of the IG arcade gameplay which was clearly unlocking a New game.

The spinning slash move feels weaker because of the lack of freeze frames that add weight to each hit. The damage seems pretty close

Insect glaive is stronger than ever if you know how to use it Also the feeling of Impact came from the sudden stopping and freeze after hitting the monster, same with great sword, they should introduce it back into wilds

To me its not about the weapons being stronger, its how unique they were, just like how the bow changed too, it may(or not?) be stronger, but i dont like using the bow in wilds, probably will play the game as a dual blades player or learn other weapon

It's litteraly the bottom tier weapon, I have no idead how it became better. They basically turned it intoshittier version of the LS and took away everything what was unique to the weapon. The whole gameplay toop of the weapon is spamming charge attacks.

​@@povelvas9710That's an LS problem, not an IG problem. LS been stepping on the other weapons' toes like charge attacks and counters, even though it was originally just a evasive gauge management weapon. IE, stronger and slightly slower DB

@@ascended8174 Why would LS users care? It's not their problem. IG is being thrown into the ditch while LS is getting buffed every game. They litteraly turned IG in a shittier version of the LS, with badcontrols and annoying kinsect mechanics. Rey dau runs are faster with LS as well, if we're talking speedruns.

I had a lot of fun using it in the beta test. You need to maximize its new aerial move set after you get all 3 extracts by doing the "Strong descending slam" by holding O and release it right after you do the Triangle skill (forgot the name) and then follow it up with the new Rising Slash. You just have to get used to the controls but honestly it's pretty awkward for a beginner since you'll have to consider using the focus mode as well during the combo. Hopefully they'll improve it on the final game.

The charge blade you have to press triangle and circle 2 times together so you can do the elemental slam. And L2 is supposed to move it but it doesn't work. In World is was the analog stick, and you only had to press triangle and circle together 1 time.

IG was never about aerial. The actual weapon's gimmick was the kinsect. Iceborne and Sunbreak flanderized the weapon and now all the hunters think aerial is everything glaive was, and had. Using IG in focus mode and seeing the hunter finally utilize the kinsect is so good. If Capcom were to do anything, it would be to just balance the damage of charge attacks and normal combos

@ascended8174 I wouldn't say it was never about aerial combat. Mhw has taken aerial combat to the max. I like the new style and collecting extracts is so easy now. In the world it always started with collecting the extracts and then starting the fight. Learning a playstyle without the red extract was basically useless. Gathering could take up to 1 minute if the monster was moving really fast and had to be done once or twice per phase. This annoyed me to no end and slower kinsects were never an option. I look forward to a playstyle that relies more on kinsect movement than air movement.

it's just an animation, it doesnt actually do anything. Remove the kinsect and the current weapon doesn't change. Before you had to send the kinsect gather the extracts, now you just poke the monster and you get them.

The problem is charging Triangle with your right thumb and trying to dodge or aim. Maybe use right trigger to charge your kinsect and hit triangle to release?

while I've always played IG since the start of world and I played for the fun of aerial combos as I'm not one for best damage floor combos. Its how i had fun. This was a system shock but once you learn it, its so much more fun and is by far one of the strongest weapons right now in wilds.

@@Sai1523 Extract is actually significantly easier now, thanks to focus attacks. Hitting a focus attack on a weakpoint nets you all 3 buffs in one go, which feels way better than having to spam your bug on specific parts of a monster.

Aerial was always a noobtrap in terms of damage. Mounts have a time and place and an inexperienced IG player would singlehandedly ruin Kulve and Safi runs by being addicted to flying around like a helicopter. it is an incredibly versatile and mobile weapon and if you're exclusively obsessing over never touching grass you really are not using it well. You may be having fun, and that is great, but mechanically and to keep it in lock step with the rest of the weapons and their new much more aggressive approaches, the new IG is perfect.

FUN...Fun is never a Noob trap. it was never about the dmg. Imagine not having fun because your too busy doing the same thing just for dmg. and then when other say but it's fun. ya'll turn into 90 year old people. "NOW listen now sunny back in my day we walked everywhere..." "but mechanically and to keep it in lock step with the rest of the weapons and their new much more aggressive approaches, the new IG is perfect."...1st of Mechanically it much more cumbersome now than ever with the new charged shenanigans and focus being mandatory and the constant extracting (even if its easier, it's also much more of a constant) ... mechanicaly its undeniably more tedious.... And as far as weapon aggressiveness. The new IG is not more aggressive at all. The new LS, that's Aggressive. The new BOW that's aggressive. The new IG not compared to Worlds. And forget about Rise cuz...obvious reasons.

I kinda prefer the removal of air juggling, the insect glaive has way more power on the ground even in MHW and getting into the habit of just spamming the air combo i feel really takes a lot away from the weapon. Plus, being on the ground more encourages you to experiment more with focus mode attacks and combos since the moveset is limited in the air, that’s probably why they removed juggling yourself, and I adore the focus mode combos for IG. having the assist type kinsect pretty much fully integrated into an alternate moveset you can toggle in a moments notice, yes please Also i believe you can launch the wound break attack while in the air, i saw someone do it in a video but didn’t experiment with it myself when i played the beta but it looks almost identical to that aerial thrust type attack in sunbreak where you just launch yourself into the monster like a friggin balista bolt. Basically IG still has a fair bit of aerial utility even without juggling if you’re willing to adapt to a new skill ceiling, since i believe ive seen spiral slash also be launched from the air

Wild version is better. Flying around and deal no damage is good? Idk, if you have ADHD, just use dual blades. One perfect rush combo from sword&shield deal 10x more damage then IG flying move Idk, it is the fact.😒

I see lots of people complaining and I really don't understand. The weapon was never about the air combat, it was just an extra thing on top, it's called insect glaive and not aerial glaive for a reason. Besides that, it was clearly never meant to be the way to use the weapon and you can tell just looking at the numbers. And for the people that say "but it was more fun" I really can't understand what is so fun about spamming the same attack over and over ignoring any actual interaction with the monster?

I got banned from forums after shitiing on 2 discord warriors (bowgun users as well), that were saying that they dont care about the weapon, but it should be banned from the multiplayer. Just so everyone knows, IG does negative damage too, so you cant play it or my wife's boyfriend's gonna take my funko pops away.

IG was never supposed to be as aerial spammy as it was in World and Rise Like YES it should have some Aerial, but having it be the ONLY move just seems incredibly dumb I never understand the people complaining about Wilds weapons man, especially IG and Switchaxe Players

But aerial was there for the fun of it (I played it only this way), so why take it away instead of adding the new stuff on top? You don't need either or - just have both.

its called making new iterations of the game, Devs decide that, i would had remade the whole moveset of the weapons in world, but people dont like that much change. Oh well i didnt count Rise since Wilds is more a sequel to World anyways, Rise just took everything it could from World.

Are people seeing the same numbers on the screen as I do? There's just no way. I don't mean to hate. But the aerial combo that we seen in this video is useless. Plus, you shouldn't be allowed to stay in the air and ignore the monsters moveset anyways. The aerial moves in IG are a tool. Just a part of it's identity, not the whole.

You cant compare numbers using a fatalis engame glaive, to the starting beta glaive of wilds. Would have been more fair if he used maybe an iron glaive or something. Obviouisly moveset is weaker but this is a terrible example to gauge value of numbers.

@ Dude I’m sorry but I play glaive (And the majority of weapons) in world and I don’t need that comparison. The aerials are way too inferior. The weapon is looking cool enough in wilds man, have you seen the Rey Dau speed runs (Without rocks)? I don’t see the lack of an aerial loop as a downgrade. Let’s just hope they fix the controls cause right now it’s crazy to play this weapon on controller.

@@devourerofthots9776 Try Sunbreak aerial combo , peak aerial combat there and rival even ground combo . The problem is that the dev is doing what Helldiver 2 dev have done , trying to shoehorn the community to use the playstyle that the dev intended them to do instead of diversifying it . What you think not fun is what other enjoy .

@@kampfer91 they should've just kept it as it was in IB and added the new stuff on top. Bow got a lot of new stuff added to its original roster, dunno why they didn't do it for IG tbh. It's a completely new weapon now with the moveset and playstyle and IG in name only.

Also theres a kinsect drill still in wilds, i dont get what u really mean: poke a wound and u have a really strong drill still and u dont even need to bother where u left your kinsect to get a good succesful drill on top... i really dont get yall's complaints... are u really just crying because its not like u used to it anymore?? that is very childish and should not get any attention.

​@@CyberBoy7703 The aerial move worth a damn in Iceborne was Descending Thrust and the Claw grapple. Sunbreak was the only game to buff aerial combos and gave IG a high-damage move a la silkbind. I'm not sure you know how this weapon works either IG's appeal was the kinsect and ability to go into the air with no questions asked. It's playstyle never centered around staying in the air until Sunbreak, or GU Aerial technically but every weapon also has that
