You guys are amazing. I love the space coast. I spent 5 months over the last 3 years. Are the jacks around in winter ? What is the best fishing Jan to March? I can't handle the May to November heat. One of the best fishing days of many was fishing jacks in the canals in Key Largo. Then we nailed some tarpon as the sun went down. You gotta love fishing !!!

Jan - Mar is usually very windy conditions for fishing but offshore is where it's at sailfish, kingfish, cobia, etc.

An awesome trip and ridiculous fun. Just a watch out with a loose drag and pumping action - if you reel down while you let off the spool and the drag is slipping you're twisting line. With a long fight, you can have a mess until you untwist it.

Love going for Jacks on light tackle just for the pure joy of fishing. It can be almost too easy to hook up when you find a feeding school because they'll literally go after anything you throw in. But since they're built for speed it's always a great fight. Sometimes the challenge is actually trying to get something down beneath them and hook another fish looking to capitalize on the frenzy, like a snapper or something that's good eating. But top water is fun too...it's like missile command.

hahaha wow! My first ever offshore fishing charter in the OBX, we were targeting Sailfish and Dolphin, but it was a real slow morning.. so, the Captain, not wanting to dissapoint a couple first timers, tells his mate to bring the rigs in, give these guys some lighter gear, and we'll jig one of the shelfs. Dude handed me and my pops some pretty light gear considering what we were fishing the sailfish with.. I thought we'd be catching some simple little fish, blues, stripers, whatever.. something to fill the day up. Anyway.. Capt lines us up on the shelf, gives us the signal to drop our plugs to the bottom, and all he says is, "Once those plugs hit, start reelin, and jig them up HARD. OK, sounds good. NOt three seconds later, I get a MASSIVE slam on my plug, bends my rod right in half, and slams me into the side of the boat. I had no idea what I was in for. That damn fish took so much line out in such a short amount of time.. And I couldnt not make headway for nothin, he kept the rod cranked the entire fight.. took me what felt like hours to get him in the boat.. it was a 100% pure forearm vs. fish battle. Finally get the damn fish in.. AmberJack. Thats what the Capt called em. Looks just your Crevalles, but reddish almost like a Grouper. totally awesome way to kick off the day.. insane battle. The rest of the day turned out pretty solid.. I caught a citation Sailfish, and my Pops caught some dolphin and a tiny little blackfin tuna which made for some killer, on the spot sashimi to end the day. Not a bad first charter trip thats for sure. Hell, the hardest saltwater battles I ever fought before that, was fishing for stripers in the Surf off of Race Point in Cape Cod. Those are totally awesome fishing experiences, but in terms of battling a fish.. That AmberJack and that Sailfish were pretty insane. Fishing is Addictive!

Most people dont realize how hard of a fight saltwater fish put up. I fought a 45 3/4'" red drum from the surf for 23 minutes let me tell you I couldnt lift my arms for about 30 minutes after I landed the fish and then sent back on its way.

@siggnolove Tuna, jacks, cobia require a jolt of oxygen to their gills to revive them, so we toss them in head first to release them.

hey blair...im serious when im asking you this...can i go there and work with you??? i just love fishing..especially those jacks !! from where im from, Maldives, fishing is really amazing...many many fishermans and many fishes...but real hard to get..as in have to go real far from shore and from shore you dont get anything close to morgan...thats the problem..all i ever wanna catch is morgans !!!! damn it..if you ever decide to visit Maldives, please let me know and let me go fishing with you !
