Born and raised on the South Side in South Shore and I also remember the 79 blizzard, I was 8 yrs old. My family moved to Mississippi in 1984 to care for my ailing grandmother. I remember my Dad had an Audi that would plow through the ice and snow when many people struggled to maneuver through the snowy ,icy streets. The winters and crime are the ONLY things I don't miss about leaving Chicago. I will always love my city and be proud of it. One thing I noticed about Chicago is the changing of the green lightpoles that once defined the streets. I noticed in your video Sunnyside, Campbell and N. Ashland Avenues still have the green lightpoles .If you entered the city from any suburb, you'd notice the difference between whatever lamp posts they had and Chicago's. Most of the neighborhood and main streets used the green poles. The parks and boulevards used the same design of the poles except they were beige colored. Nowadays many of the green poles are being replaced with the white generic "hospital parking lot" poles as I call them. I wish they could've just manufactured new poles with the same design as the classic ones. Those lightpoles ARE Chicago!! As always, I miss the FOOD!!! No city has food like Chicago. I'll probably never move back home,but I always visit my hometown.....Chicago,Illinois 60649

@@hyemuhyemu8221 I don't know if you live in a big city, but nothing moves after a foot or more of snow fall in one day. Cities try to keep roads clear but they don't remove the snow..It might take 3 days to get the stranded cars and truck out of the way. Chicago allows parking on 500 miles of streets during spring to fall. Dec 1st to March 1st its open season for city and private tow companies to remove these parked cars during the snowfall season. After about a week they try to remove the snow the have plowed up on the curbs and sidewalks. I'm sure if it was possible to walk over 4 foot drifts and plowed snow.. more people would be doing it.

@@joeknowz4898 chicago salts the roads before snow and starts clearing the main arteries as soon as it starts snowing so yes roads are clear. side streets are worked on after the main arteries are done. sidewalks are responsibility of homeowners. chicago is a very big city. the North side is bigger and more dense than san Francisco, south west side is bigger than atlanta. downtown has about as many people as miami. south side is bigger than philadelphia. quite big imo

@chicago4k5423 жыл бұрын
Lol, yeah thats a long time to watch it. Thanks for watching. Now I know people actually sit and watch it for that long. This was a much bigger snowstorm than the last one I recorded, so I used a Kia Soul this time. It's much higher off the ground than the Elantra, and prevents the snow from scraping the bottom of my car and potentially getting stuck on the unplowed side streets. There was few times I did get stuck. If you pause the video at 1:14:23, you'll notice a pile of snow across the street. I pushed my luck and tried going through that at higher speeds and got stuck for 30 minutes. Thats why the video cuts off. I did have a shovel to dig myself out. But, I must say, the car is great in snow for a front wheel drive.
