Monster-Themed Restaurants - Florida Edition - Gothic Homemaking Presents

In previous episodes I've taken you to Monster Themed restaurants and bars in New York City, Los Angels, Portland, Las Vegas, Mexico City, Tokyo and more! We've seen places based on vampires, werewolves, Godzilla, Frankenstein and more! Now, we turn our spooky, monster loving lens on monster themed establishments in Florida. We'll see the Universal Monsters on display at the Universal Studios Classic Monster's Cafe and a room full of wonderfully macabre Addams Family, Elvira and Nightmare Before Christmas inspired installations at Cocktails and Screams in Orlando! Then we'll venture to the Spookeasy Lounge in Tampa Florida. Come along for another spooky travel episode!

If you ever come back to Cleveland, Ohio you should go to LBM in Lakewood , its filled with Taxidermy/Skulls and a ton of cool Gothic/Norse/Scandinavian Decor/Motif even the best Spirits ^vv^.

I absolutely love the idea of the Spookeasy Kava Lounge, almost as much as I love the name and decor. (The furniture looks beautiful!!) It is great that there's a place where people can go who want to avoid bars for whatever reason and/or those who want the social feeling of a lounge/bar without feeling pressured to consume alcohol. I've never really heard of a place like that before, short of juice bars or something, but I've especially never seen any this awesome looking. I wish there were more places that encouraged sobriety like this, especially given the theme of using something natural like Kava to ease your mind. Also, good for you for featuring it despite it not serving alcohol! As someone who doesn't especially like the idea of bars, and who loves spooky rooms hidden behind bookshelves, this was quite a refreshing episode. Thank you for great content, as usual! Also also, I want to try that Seitanwitch from Cocktails & Screams. It sounds amazing!

Another Kava Bar I recommend is Mad Hatters in St. Pete! It's got beautiful murals themed with Burton's Alice as well as various other Alice art and decor. Great staff, yummy hot and cold drinks. Occasional fire/poi shows, games like chess and giant Connect Four are outside. :)

You know with all the sheltering-in-place still...in place, you'd think Ice Cream trucks and other roach coaches would be on the move circulating through neighborhoods..I mean they're like the ultimate food delivery service and they're usually Mom'n'Pop businesses that could use the support these days since the venues they normally cater to/at are shut for now.

Ha ha ha, I may be a late convert to the whole "fun and philosophical" aspects of horror, since I have never liked to scare myself deliberately with shock value/gore and profanity rooted scares when I was a kid (I didn't see my first R-rated movie until I was 15, and it was Tim Burton's take on Sweeney Todd.) I count my fascination with horror/mystery/suspense starting when I read Dracula and Poe stories on my own time after Corpse Bride came out in 2005, and starting with Nightmare Before Christmas the year previous. It's been 15 years since then. However, I have been up for stellar attention to atmospheric detail, patronizing local/specialized artists for unique pieces, and devotion to delivering great food and atmosphere ever since I can remember. The Haunted Mansion has nothing on the moving portraits and visual overlays for Cocktails and Screams, and being someone who has always been sensitive to alcohol, the way you described your "unexpected discovery" in Ybor City made me excited to return to Florida again someday. I went there once when I had just graduated high school on a service trip in the Keys, but I didn't get too much time to wander around as a tourist since I was scuba diving, doing beach clean up, and kayaking in the ocean nearly every day. And considering Key West is one of the hotspots for American authors and hauntings, I thought you would be finding an entry for this video there, maybe making a nod to Robert the Doll.

Kava and Kratom are both pretty big in Tampa/St Pete. Its a really great scene, and lots of kava bars have fun themes and art! Glad you got to visit Spookeasy!

I think there's some here in Kentucky,especially during October when the Zombie Walk and Talon Falls are open. You'd LOVE it at Talon,as there's monster themed everything there. Worked there 2 years,it was amazing. And the Zombie walk is a hoot~

Next time your back in Florida take a trip to to Jacksonville to check out Poe's Tavern. It's themed to Edgar Allan Poe with movie posters on the walls, pages of his books line the walls in the restroom and recording of the stories play in there. The food is named after his work I'd you go j would suggest the Rue Morgue. This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Jax

If you find yourself in Tampa again, we'd just about die to see you at Alchemy and Ashes! It's a gothic metaphysical and antiques shop with a flare for the macabre. Just about 20 minutes or so from Ybor! The Spookeasy owners actually often shop with us here, they're the coolest people! I'd also recommend checking out Dysfunctional Grace for oddities and taxidermy! I'm sure you might've heard of Ravens and Rockers already as they're heavily involved with the Vampire's Ball at The Castle in Ybor, but if not, they're an excellent little gothic clothing store with more of the best people in town running it! Not a lot of people know about Tampas spooky/goth scene, but I love sharing as much of it as I possibly can!

Wow... That's more then I expected. Wish monster themed places were common in Serbia , because I like vampire stuff , and because , well , you would expect the country in which the stories of vampires originate would have a lot of vampire or monster based things. Question , do you think of going back to some old songs and either re doing them or doing a new take on them , or just make a cover of them? As an example , the rock version of The Night , as well as the original version are epic , but they are so old.

I highly recommend the Crowbar and the Castle as well, if you're looking for something a bit more low-brow but just as goth! The Castle is a club/bar and is super popular in the goth and hardcore scene, and is very fun. The Crowbar is a relaxed but fun atmosphere where you can enjoy a lot of indie musicians from the local scene and just generally kick it w/ other alt fashion folx.

Next time you're in the Los Angeles area you should check out The Cauldron in Buena Park, right across the street from Knott's Berry Farm. It's a witch themed bar with French food.

Great video! I go to Florida every year just to do Halloween Horror Nights and the Monster Cafe is fun! October is the best time to check out Orlando in my opinion. It's not as hot as it is the rest of the year. Plus, lots of places sell Halloween exclusive items! Even if you don't want to pay the price to go to Disney I would also suggest checking out Disney springs, you can get a lot of cool Haunted mansion themed stuff without paying the price of going to the park! I had never heard of Cocktails and Screams before! I HAVE to go there this year! Thanks again for the video Voltaire!

While not "monster" themed, The Gas Station in Bastrop, TX is where The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was filmed, in part. Apparently there's lots of memorabilia and BBQ to DIE for. I plan on stopping on my way to working at a haunt next month and can confirm the reviews I've read.
