I have 2 of the Heimdalr monster watches. One in all stainless steel and one in PVD with a silicone strap. They are both fantastic watches. The only problem I have is deciding which one to wear.

I gave my Islander Monster away because the Bezel pretty much did not have any action, it was just amazingly spongy. I have enjoyed my Seiko's and the one Heimdallr Monster I have owned. I will likely pick up at least one more Heimdallr, they are very well put together. I do wish that Heimdallr had not used the Pin and Collar system.

Two good brands. I do prefer the Gen 2. As a Seiko fanboy with 4 divers and a flighty I wanted to get a genuine pristine Seiko 2nd gen Monster. €1400 was the cheapest on the 2nd hand market. So I went for the red dial Heimdallr and will readily admit it's a better watch due to better bracelet and sapphire crystal. Unfortunately it lines up perfectly, unlike some Seiko's. 😉 I also took it down to 80m on a recent dive in south Turkey and it performed perfectly. I'm happy with it, and the red dial ensures it's not confused with the original. I can't get an Islander so easily where I live, customs is a nightmare, but I do like the watches Marc makes.

Lucky me managed to snag a purple Monster from Islander and they no longer make that now rare color. I believe I have 9 Seiko monsters and three other homages. The rare one I am still looking for and wish they would have a re-release is the chartreuse monster from Thailand. For sure one of my favorite models and like others say, it is tough to decide which to wear for the day.

I’m a big fan of Mark and LIW. I got the red Sharkey one, just because of the color. I have it on a red rubber dive strap and it looks very cool. The crystal on mine is slightly domed. I got mine through eBay so I paid full price for it. Some of the new LIW colors look great.

I owned a Gen 1 monster. Nato straps didnt work for me due to the lug width being 20mm and the watch being so big. It looks disproportional IMO.

Good comparison. I have been thinking of getting a Heimdallr watch, and you may have just convinced me to pull the trigger. Also, just as an fyi, not every Islander watch has Long Island engraved on the back. The pilot watches have an F14 on the back, and some models like the field watch have exhibition case back.

@@brianmsahin Yes I’ve seen they are now available, they weren’t some time ago. I may get one but I don’t like day date on a mechanical watch. I don’t want to be often having to reset it. Just bought an RLG Odyssea which has no date and it’s much better. Sure it can be useful to have a date but the watch looks better with no date. All my Quartz have date or day date, but my preference with mechanical is no date.

My ONLY gripe about the islander is the second hand tip... it kinda blocks the indices as it sweeps by. The Heimdallr second hand looks more original and does not cross into the white of the "teeth" indices.

Another very enjoyable video, I don't know what one I like best, I like the looks of the Islander best but I'm a sucker for an orange dial so it's a toss up for me, looking forward to your next offering!!!!!

Interesting review, might pick up the red Heimdallr version during the Ali Express June sale. By the way, the characters are actually Chinese, not Japanese. Surprisingly, Seiko watches made in Malaysia have Malay as the second language for the date dials, even if they meant for export.

You are correct. The Sunday symbol is identical so I assumed Kanji.

I saw this watch online liked the look of it alot I thought that it might look to big or chunky but they dont they look good.....dobthey have any other dial colors the blue is ok just I dont like the time markers

The Islander is also available in red, black, white, and lumed. I don't like the shade of red they chose.

I just bought the Islander and have to say it's a nice watch. The pin and collar vs. screw pin is a big deal and tilted the scales for me. Regardless, surprising quality for the price.

Bought an Islander, too. The bezel is so weak, it always turns by itself. The screws of the bracelet don‘t come off except three, and one connection between two bracelet elements is stiff, and stays that way. The safety lever of the bracelet is stiff, too. Yes, that‘s a surprising quality for the money.

@@panorama4526 There must be some QC issues on the bezel then. Mine is not weak at all. No issues with the bracelet either. I’d definitely return it if the bezel is that loose.

The islander logo is horrible, the shark logo is good. I get the islander logo, 4:20, weed reference, just don’t like it

@@kristomat I see what you are saying with regards to build etc, but my assumption is mainly derived by the Seikos originality, charm and resale values. It's nice knowing I've now got the original in my collection with the knowledge that I can pick up a cheap homage at anytime. It's not a dig at you or your perception as I can entirely see your point too. It's an age old watch debate and subjective.

I guess my train of thought is I can loose it or have it stolen without too much worry. That and I never resale my watches or any of my collecting hobbies.
