Actually, Chinese has a book called “Shan Haiching”and a folklore called“Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio”, they include many typical monsters from ancient China. Zhu Bajie is not an actual monster, his back story is from “Journey to the West”. He is a god who had been punished to be a pig and helped Tang Sanzang travel to west, their stories are really epic. hope u guys search for that if u have interested in these. ❤️

In Argentina our own monstrous legend would be the Pombero. Physically described as something similar to gollum from lord of the rings but covered in black hair and with an ape like face, although it can shapeshift. He dwells in the northern part of our country in farm like areas with the purpose of protecting the nature and animals from poachers. Many people actually do believe in this legend, specially among the countryside population. It's very common for these people to strictly avoid roaming around the farms at night, and every once in a while place food outside their homes as offerings for him. His name is also rarely spoken, since many believe that pronouncing his name will summon him.

Leshy, like many Slavic "demons / monsters" is not clearly evil. Many creatures from Slavic mythology could be a threat to people and be helpful at the same time, it all depends on people's behavior. The ancient Slavs had a different view of the evil and the good. They knew that these features are in every person and in everything that surrounds us. This approach was reflected in their beliefs

Behemoth in Hebrew just means “animals”. It appears in one place poetically as a huge beast, and there are a few parables about it, but imagine it more like a bull than Predator or whatever that is. It’s also not like a thing we tell stories about or anything scary. It’s just a cryptic detail in Job.

And on its own it is considered a psychological condition in the people who know of it. Native Canadians who would commit atrocious acts could descend into a form of psychosis where in they actually believed that they were possessed by a Wendigo. Inaccuracy: Zhu Bajie is described as a “demon,” but he’s got his own unique backstory as one of the *protagonists* of Journey to the West. You see, Zhu Bajie was once a good-looking and rather high-ranking official in Heaven. One day, the guy got drunk and molested *Chang’e*, who was kind of a big shot in Heaven. The offense was enough to get Bajie banished from Heaven and was given a hideous, pig-like appearance. He is given a chance at redemption by the bodhisattva Guanyin. She tells him that he must protect and aid Tang Sanzang on his titular journey to the West.

*It seems that this video is missing mexico’s 🇲🇽monster so i’m gonna leave it here for anyone with interest:* There are many local legends such as “el charro negro”, an undead guy who’s spirit roams around lonely highways to look for people to talk with and make company, or “la llorona” a ghost of a mother who’s kids drowned in a river, so she roams in lakes looking for them But the most important creature of all of these is *”el chupacabras”* easily translated to *“the goat eater”*, a creature that, well.. eats goats from local farms at night, its appearance can be described as a hyena with severe mutations, such as spikes on its back, some holes and warts through its body and a mouth with severe displaced teeth, this last characteristic is the one that made the rumors of this creature existing, since it eats goats in a particular way, sucking their blood until they die, leaving its teeth mark on the goats that it ate, that’s why it’s called “chupacabras”!! Basically “chupa/chupar” = suck, but goatsucker is a pretty goofy name if we translate it to english, so the name goat eater fits it better. thank you for reading! I hope i could interest you in some mexico creatures, feel free to ask any question about this topic, peace🌵🌵🌵

I like how every monster is based on local factors affecting each particular culture. Like eastern cultures depict their monsters as mystical beings with different colors and supernatural powers, having average built; While western or tundra based regions depict monsters as some beings who reside in forest and hunt during the nights without any magical prowess and relying on brute strength resembling supersized human-animal mix breed.

i don't think it's fair to say that the minotaur was minoan. True, that is where the greek legends say he lived, but that's the thing, those were GREEK legends. I don't recall there being any proof of a minotaur like creature in any artefacts found on the island of crete itself.

I am Basque, and there are some cool mythological creatures here. The most famous one, probably, is Akerbeltz. Akerbeltz, which means Black Goat, is a humanoid goat with huge horns and a man’s face. It’s where some of the original images of the Devil originated from. There’s also Basajaun (plural Basajaunak, female Basandere), which is more like a species. They’re just woods people that are considered to be similar to giants of Anglo-Celtic mythology.

6:30 according to a story, tepegöz is a child of a man and a fairy and nobody wants him so a man takes him in who also has kids (one of them named Basat who was taken care of by lions as an infant). As he grows up and becomes violent, people want Tepegöz dead but his fairy mother gives him a ring that protects him against arrows and swords so people couldn’t hurt him.He demands things including humans to eat and people sacrifice themselves one by one. One day Basat has had enough of this because Tepegöz killed his brother too. Basat goes into the forest and stabs him in the eye with a very hot iron. That was a summary from one of the stories. Some says Tepegöz only wanted love but nobody loved him cause he was ugly so he decided to eat them all.
