Back when i was young and didn't even speak any english, this song seemed like the most comforting sound.... Warm and intense like warm hug, but with a hint of emotionality. Now that i understand the lyrics and the intention behind the song, I can't help but tear up every time i hear it again... It's good tho, it's a hopeful kind of cry...

I´ve discovered this album years ago and listened to this with my husband. We both liked it very much. And although we were used to have little talks every day, in 22 years there´s never been an awkard silence between us. He passed away five months ago today. I´m devastated and am slowly surfacing to life again. Today in the afternoon I was cleaning while listening to a streaming news program when, on a break, suddenly this song starts playing. I started shaking and crying... I never, *ever* , listened to that song or band on any radio nor streaming here (Argentina), and it just occurred to me to put that program while cleaning, to have some company. I felt it was a message from him, it´s beyond coincidence (for others factors too), but couldn't help but cry and fell apart once again... I miss you so, SO much, my love, my darling, my Omarcito mío 😥

It’s so beautiful. She has passed and is helping them through the demons they face. Depression, anxiety, suicide ect. She is the guardian angel steering them through life and the demons they face. The lyrics ‘Some days I can’t even dress myself’ - is the depression. ‘It’s killing me to see you this way’ - is her above seeing the pain they face. ‘Don’t listen to a word I say, the screams all sound the same’ - she’s telling them to not listen to the voices in their heads, the depression & suicidal thoughts. ‘Tho the truth may vary, This ship will carry our bodies safe to sore’ -- although the thoughts of depression & suicide they face , through the memories of her and her guidance from above, they will make it through life. She is helping them through life. Reminding them to not give up on life. She will be waiting and will see them again soon in the clouds above. The ending scene is heaven. The lyrics & film clip are so sad and beautiful. The rhythm just makes sense too. A work of art. So beautiful..

It’s about battling addiction if you ask me. The beasts/demons grow and when you think you have it beat: u slip through the cracks and it swallows you up whole, only to be drowning and overwhelmed. You can be walking through life happily one day but suddenly find yourself surrounded by haunted trees, in a dark forest, only to meet the demon at the end of the path . And it is the little spirit of light and positivity that is within us all who assists in the battle to defeat the demon. And in the end it’s all of the same beast. As the duality in the universe is the balance that one must achieve. And all energy comes from the same-big bang- Or the breathe of life from The Godhead itself.

My interpretation of the song: An elderly widow with dementia/Alzheimer who is unsure if her husbands is actually there and or talking to her. She constantly battles and questions her will to live throughout the song. I don't like walking around this old and empty house (The husband has passed away. She has grown tired of living without him there ) So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear (The husband’s ghost is there and trying to comfort her) The stairs creak as I sleep It's keeping me awake (His ghost still walks around the house and up the stairs to their room, making noise in the process) It's the house telling you to close your eyes (He is hinting that it is him making the noise and she should feel safe going to bed) And some days I can't even dress myself (Widow is struggling to find the will to live) It's killing me to see you this way (Though dead, the husband can only watch as his wife barely has a will to live) 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore (If the wife were to pass away somehow, she will still end up in heaven.) Hey, hey, hey There's an old voice in my head That's holding me back (The old unknown voice is her husband, giving her a will to live) Well, tell her that I miss our little talks (Husband acknowledges it is his voice, she can’t remember though cause of dementia) Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past (“It” is refer to her and the memories of them. She knows she is going to die soon to be with him. her and her memories will be buried with her husband, hence “ Buried with our past” ) We used to play outside when we were young And full of life and full of love (Though dead, husband convinces her that memories don’t fade because you pass away) Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right (She doesn’t know if the ghost and voices of him convincing her to live are real or hallucinations). Your mind is playing tricks on you, my dear (Husband tries to convince her that he is there, it’s not dementia) 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore (Whether she dies soon or later, they will both end up together in heaven. The ship represents life on earth, and safe on shore represents the heaven, the final destination) Hey Don't listen to a word I say (She knows her dementia causes her to question herself daily) Hey The screams all sound the same (The screams sound the same because she constantly fights the same battle due to her dementia) Hey You're gone, gone, gone away I watched you disappear (She remembers seeing him pass away or being buried as mentioned before.) All that's left is a ghost of you (Realizing what she sees is a ghost ) Now we're torn, torn, torn apart There's nothing we can do ( Realizing he is dead and she is alive, there is nothing “we” can do) Just let me go, we'll meet again soon (As long as his ghost visits her, she will have a will to live. But she knows they can be together in death.) Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around I'll see you when I fall asleep (Once he stops visiting her, she will lose the will to live. She wants him to “hang around” when she “falls asleep” (dies), so that they can be together once she passes. Hey Don't listen to a word I say (Still contemplating on if death is the best answer) Hey The screams all sound the same (Once again, she has this inner battle determining whether or not she wants to live) Hey Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore (No matter if she dies now or later, she will end up being on the safe shore (heaven) with her husband) The last verses are repeated to acknowledge that she chose to live, and she knows she will see him another day.

Thank you everyone, this lyric interpretation is inspired by my Grandparents. When my Grandfather passed away, my grandmother passed away a month after. As we think she no longer has a will to live. My grandma would often see my grandpa's ghost laying in bed or talking to her though he is dead. She would often question whether this was reality.
@jamesreynolds4279 күн бұрын
I don’t know why, but it always brings a tear to my eye. I think song is about people Particularly how people change sometimes they want to change sometimes they forced to change. The Person I talk with when I talk to myself now is not the same person I was 20 years ago. Same as true as of my closest friends who I grew up with And have known for decades . sometimes I see the old person but that’s just a ghost now. These people are new people now for better or worse. For me it can be a good thing because they’re a little Reminders The change that has occurred is important and that the change has come and will come again. We can become monstrous Even with the best of intentions, if not.

Okay, let me put my comment from a discussion about the actual meaning of the song from a lyric video (not the official one): I started to listen to this song when I was around 5. I didn't know the lyrics and I actually didn't really care about them (also I'm not english). Then I had some kind of a "break", I mean I forgot about this song because there were so many things to think about... For example I had to move to the nearby town with my mother without my father (it was kinda because of him, only screaming, yelling...) about a year ago. Now something (idk what, but it was something in my mind) reminded me of this song... Only thing I remembered was "men and monsters" (of monsters and men) so I searched it and found the song really quickly. It's so nostalgic, it's my childhood song that I haven't been listening to over 5 years (not like I'm an adult, I mean the childhood before I was 10). And it feels a little bit weird that this song may be about someone's death or disease... But anyways, I'll never forget this song anymore, it just made my world.

It's only now that I realized how meaningful is this song. If I didn't misunderstand, this song is about an old widow complaining to her husband's soul and wanna suicide so that she can meet her husband. She said she hates the empty house which made her felt lonely. She felt sad that she can't even dress and didn't know whether she was correct or wrong. However, her husband consoled her, said that it was her brain playing tricks on her. Her husband asked her not to listen to his sound, which was telling her not to suicide. He said they would meet in her dream. So just wait for him, and live happily. Edit: Thank you so much for the likes and replies! Stay safe💖

I spend an entire day looking for this song and I see a random KZbin video about music and I hear this absolute bop just there. I wasted a day, so I’m going to spend a day listening to this

This song feels nostalgic but i have never listened in my whole life
@joshstone40525 жыл бұрын
I have listened to this long ago. But your right. It does have that nostalgic feel. Like when you watch a good movie and you absolutely love the main character but then they change throughout the movie and in the end the character is this different person that you like but you value how it was when the movie was so simple.

I don't like walking around this old and empty house So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear The stairs creak as you sleep It's keeping me awake It's the house telling you to close your eyes And some days I can't even dress myself It's killing me to see you this way 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore There's an old voice in my head That's holding me back Well, tell her that I miss our little talks Soon it will be over and buried with our past We used to play outside when we were young And full of life and full of love Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right Your mind is playing tricks on you, my dear 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Don't listen to a word I say (Hey) The screams all sound the same (Hey) And though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore You're gone, gone, gone away I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you Now we're torn, torn, torn apart There's nothing we can do Just let me go, we'll meet again soon Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around I'll see you when I fall asleep Don't listen to a word I say (Hey) The screams all sound the same (Hey) Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Don't listen to a word I say (Hey) The screams all sound the same (Hey) Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

My great grandmother had dementia. She passed away May 25th, 2022. She loved going for car rides, so she peacefully passed with her grandson during a lake side drive. She was a strong, compassionate, loving, and intelligent person. This song hits differently now, because this reminds me of dementia. I will always remember and relish the times I had with her, and hopefully, never forget her. I really like this song, and I will keep listening to it knowing that this song will make me think of my grandmother, Linda Ann Kenyon.

I've heard this hundreds of times, but the video made me cry immediately when watching. Seeing her bowing her head the entire time, dejected, or angry. Then to raise her head and have a genuine smile at the end. The video is a masterpiece.

What do you think is the meaning behind this video? It fascinates me but I feel like it’s drawing on folklore or other subtle cultural things in Iceland maybe?
@ItzPlazmaaa Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyDWise it talks about losing someone you love. “Miss our little talks” possibly refers to missing the person before they were gone

When I was 15 I went on a camping trip with my four best friends and it was just magical. Late nights by the fire, walking in the rain, and deep talks made it something truly special. I cannot listen to this song without feeling some intense nostalgia even today. - May 05/2022
