It’s the hellfire. Being able to use them as jumpjets for three dimensional movement at such capacity makes for a drastic advantage against flyers that need to suddenly split their focus between staying in the air and fighting for their life against something that can stay at their elevation for a fraction of the effort and maul them with four _very_ well developed limbs.

@@goozma1337 But the difference is Nergigante is a brawler who primarily fights on the ground, so it wouldn't make that much sense for him to decide to fly against Magnamalo. In game it only flies when its arriving/leaving the map. The only time we actually see it fight in the air was when it ambushed Bazel who was already in the air.

Exactly. Nergi may not have anything quirky or special going on with unique abilities but he is one of the,if not,the elder dragon with the most brute strength only second to the black dragons and some of the end game wyverns. If Nergi gets slammed the same way,I'm gonna rebel HARD but seeing how they refused to let Bazel use his explosives which he is mostly known for on Magna in the turf war,I'm afraid they are gonna do spiky boi dirty too.

Their could have been some really unique turf wars with Magnamalo, Rathalos is known to be one of the more powerful flying wyverns so he could of put up a better fight, and Bazelguease should of had a unique animation, imagine him bombing Magnamalo when he attempts to jump up and grab him, but Rajang is the most missed opportunity, and if Nergigante gets added to Rise, then he and Magnamalo should have a very unique Turf War.

My friend claims he’s gotten Rathalos and Rakna-Kadaki to have a turf war but hasn’t gotten them to do it again. Me and him are currently experimenting to see if we can get it to trigger again to see if it real or if his memory is playing tricks on him. He said it wasn’t very interesting, Rathalos picks up Rakna-Kadaki and throws her on the ground.

2:38 Magnamalo just seems to be the anathema of any flying monster. Doesn’t make a difference the tier of the flyer in question, Magnamalo’s brutal physique in tandem with its hellfire rockets gives it a massive advantage on a monster that has to suddenly split its focus between flying and fighting against something that can mostly just focus on the fighting part. Those hellfire jumpjets are _supremely_ useful in an aerial battle, being capable of rapid three dimensional motions most monsters simply can’t pull off, for a fraction of the effort it takes for wing derived flight. Doubly so if the monster only has two legs and a pair of wings, thus without a pair of arms that can really contend with Magnamalo’s own. Although rise _should_ have distinct turf wars with flying monsters that actually have the forelimbs to help even out such a fight, namely the current and upcoming elder dragons, along with some ground based turf wars for good measure.

I kinda low key hate Magnamalo if only for how pushed it feels. You can tell it was supposed to be a elder dragon but they pulled the plug on that at the last minute. Thematically and mechanically, it's identical to Nergigante. They are both ferocious beefy four legged monsters that fight, win against and eat anything, even elder dragons, as well as a mechanic where if you do enough damage to its face, back, tail or forearms it gets knocked over. Hell he even has the same dive attack.

The fact that they can reuse turf wars between monsters that have completely different skeletons for Rathalos and Anjanath turf wars against tier 1 monsters like Kulu and Tetranadon while not having them look janky speaks to the power of the REengine's animation toolset, apparently the devs for World couldn't do this as easily because the animation tools for the MTFramework were dogshit... but if that no longer becomes a problem I can't imagine what Sunbreak or the next MH game will hold for us in terms of turf wars... Assuming the next MH game runs on the REengine and not the MTFramework of course.

Im not sure how you all are doing it or if its a setting thing, but im having trouble having anything do turf wars in this game. I use the stinkmink and bring a monster over, then one hits the other and they become " mountable" and 15-20 seconds later the monster I brought just leaves. Like.... why? Also I have read some of the comments and I agree, Mag's turf wars are so dull, and the rehashing of so many old turf wars is not well received. Im thinking this game was both rushed and trying to ride the curtails of World and Iceborne like that bastardization of a movie was.

Mag is a beast, definitely muffles the line between a wyvern and elder dragon. Took on all the lesser elders dragons, and Narwa all mother, yea she rocks Mag but Mag still left her with a giant fck you.
