We saw X Kong yesterday in a XD theater with a crazy sound system. That made it my favorite of the franchise, my family absolutely loved it and now I want to see Alien Romulus in a XD theater. Skull Island would be my #2 for sure.

Wow even though i definitely think Kong skull island is very underrated because it does have amazing cinematography and aesthetic and gorgeous shots, and great action and cast, plus John c reily l, i was shocked to see it in first place 😮. Anyway I'd probably say my favourite monsterverse movie is actually Godzilla x Kong. I thought the story didn't flow well and Godzilla is like an extended cameo but when it comes to the reason i like these films, it delivers on every single level! The visuals were incredible and the action was phenomenal. It gave me crazy monsterverse action that put a huge smile on my face from start to finish

I find it quite interesting how varied the ranking and opinions of the MV is in terms of which movie is the best or worst, but most people can generally agree that the kaiju or titan action was the best elements of these movies (especially if your a big Godzilla or kaiju fan).

My ranking: 1. GxK: TNE (8.5/10) 2. GvK (8/10) 3. Kong: Skull Island (8/10) 4. Godzilla: KotM (7/10) 5. Godzilla (6/10) Reasons: 1. Maybe recency bias. I love how much titan screen time there is. The humans never felt like they overstayed their welcome. Cool continuation of lore and previous events. Some missed opportunities, plot confusion, and plot conveniences. Mothra's small presence was a tad dissapointing. 2. Several fights between the Big G and Big Monkey, all enjoyable and never boring. Expands on mostly Kong (I am on Team Kong, if you couldn't tell). Hollow Earth is beautiful and interesting for the future. Mechagodzilla was a cool, modern design and fun to see in the monsterverse. Jia is the best human in the monsterverse. Sad Kong got beat as hard as he did, and the humans were all pretty rough for the most part. 3. Loved seeing a titan in a non-civilised landscape for once. SLJ was a great villain, and I loved the fact he was just a dude that was able to be so antagonistic. Human characters weren't insufferable and I think the likability of the actors helped that. The army group's dynamic was great. It did a great job at putting the viewer at human level throughout almost all of the movie - the bamboo forest is the best example. Cool new titans. It was very much its own thing, which I respect, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have loved an appearance from a titan from the old movies. 4. Lots of titans. Lots of action. Lots of humans, too many in fact. I remember the human scenes more than the titan scenes. Apart from Godzilla, Scylla and Mothra, nothing has happened on screen with any of the other titans that lived through this movie - thats dissapointing, especially since Behemoth easily could have shown up in GxK. Oxygen destoyer was shoe-horned in without the impact of the original Godzilla film from the 50s. 5. As the first movie in the monsterverse, this did really well. First Godzilla appearance is iconic, adn this movie has many iconic moments from the Kiss of Death, Airport Scene, and Halo Jump. Too dark in terms of brightness. Boring human characters that the film chose to follow.

I honestly think in terms of how the fights are executed in Godzilla vs Kong, I think its better than King of the Monsters. The fights in King of the monsters in my opinion were too suppressed (The fights were mostly happening when the human characters were talking, I want direct on screen fights).

1: Kong Skull Island. What can I say? I’m more of a Kong guy! I really liked the Skull Island setting and you can tell so much of the film was shot on location which I appreciated. The human characters have always been criticised in these films but I think the human characters in this film are arguably the best! John C Reilly is a standout and all the monster action is great. I also love the 70s soundtrack! 2: Godzilla vs Kong. Sometimes a film title says it all… This is the franchise’s Rumble In The Jungle! The Thrilla In Manilla! Godzilla vs Kong delivers action and spectacle by the bucket load and will leave anyone who wants to see a giant ape hit a giant lizard in the face with an axe very satisfied! 3: Godzilla x Kong The New Empire. Big monkey go smash. Big lizard go boom. If you didn’t think it was possible for this franchise to dumb it down any more, Godzilla x Kong The New Empire (still a ridiculous title!) sets a new standard for mindless scripts. That said it’s still mostly dumb fun! 4: Godzilla King of the Monsters. I think this film has a lot going for it but it is ultimately let down by some of the worst human characters in the entire franchise! The film is also overlong and mostly dull and humourless. But the monster action is some of the best in the franchise and it really makes you feel the danger of these monsters! 5: Godzilla 2014. Unpopular opinion I know but I have never really been a fan of this film. The human characters are arguably the worst in the franchise and are so incredibly boring! The film is mostly bland and gloomy which can make it difficult to actually see what is going on. Godzilla is also barely even in the film so it makes the film feel even more disappointing and underwhelming.

Godzilla x Kong contains a story you don’t have to care about or look into when most of what you want and get is more Hollow earth, titan battles, Kong, and Doug.

My ranking of just the Movies would be 1. Godzilla vs Kong- Is it a Kong movie yes but it's colorful has our two kaiju front and center. Human characters are one note but I find this cast to be the best human cast in all the Monsterverse. Tom Holkenberg delivers an excellent synthy score. My biggest question from this film is why does Godzilla laugh in the Hong Kong fight? 2. Godzilla King of the Monsters- Again Bear McCreary gives us a beautiful score even some reimaginings of the monsters original theme. Some gorgeous looking cinematography like Ghidorah on the volcano. Some really emotional beats like Mothras sacrifice and Ken Watanabe's character sacrifice as he feels connected to Godzilla through the Hiroshima nuke. Also, Burning Godzilla just looks awesome. 3. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire- This movie has all the great things that the versus movie had and cranks it up. It was worth the ticket price when I saw a wrestling suplex done in the film. It was also nice to find out Shimo was just doing destruction because Skar King was controlling her and not really a bad kaiju. Of course tag team is better than 1 v 3 though. 4. Kong: Skull Island- The Vietnam War background is what makes this movie stand out. Seeing Sam L. Jackson's character Packard slowly unravel and turn into the villian is always fun to rewatch. 5. Godzilla 2014- It may be in last place but it's not that far from 1'st like all these films are. Gareth Edward's is a great director and as the movie that started the monsterverse it's a fun rewatch. The Airport entrance is just burned into my memory. The sound design is incredible especially from the MUTO's. Thanks for reading my long ranking post as I only do this for franchises I enjoy.

I’m going to hold out ranking Skull Island since I need to rewatch it again. I did watch the first 10 minutes and it makes a lot more sense after seeing Monarch. Here’s my problem with Godzilla x Kong: I didn’t think Godzilla had one BADASS moment in the movie. He became Barbie pink Evolved and what happens when he tried blasting Skar King? He missed while Skar King became Sonic the Hedgehog and did the spin dash around Rio. Honestly, Godzilla hasn’t kicked ass since KOTM 2019 after he became Burning Godzilla. He has played second fiddle to Kong’s journey in the last two MV movies. Add the fact Godzilla can be quite a dick! That’s ok for me considering Michael Jordan is my idol and he’s a dick. And I prefer Tony Stark over Steve Rogers but I know Tony was a dick. Who decided to pick a fight with Kong in the 2021 movie while Kong was in chains? Godzilla. Who wanted to pick a fight in the latest one? Godzilla. He’s a major asshole in these movies. He doesn’t want to team up or work with anybody. It’s dick move after dick move from Big G. I honestly didn’t understand Godzilla killing the MUTOs in 2014? They were a couple trying to take care of their unhatched babies and were not trying to hurt anybody. Rooting for Godzilla is rooting for Biff Tannen to beat up George and Marty McFly. He’s a big bully and asshole. Dan Murrell did this epic ranking list of 45 movies between Godzilla and Kong you should check out. It was fairly predictable which one would go No. 1. Actually his top 2 were fairly predictable. 5. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (50%) - Great CGI action in a convoluted movie that is tiring to watch. 4. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (65%) - There is really no plot here, but it’s all worth it for the third act. 3. Godzilla (85%) - An intriguing and thrilling monster movie with great direction from future Star Wars director Gareth Edwards. If the second half was more polished and there was more action, this would be the best one. 2. Kong: Skull Island (100%) - A fast-paced, entertaining, and funny movie with state of the art CGI and an ensemble cast all doing their best work. 1. Godzilla vs. Kong (100%) One of my favourite movies of all time. Yeah literally. That may sound like a bold claim, but for a blockbuster action CGI movie fan who was bored during COVID like me, this movie was a dream come true. Never seen Monarch

The show had great first 3 episodes and good enough final 2 episodes, but in between is nothing more than boring, back and forth unnecessary drama, it doesn't fit with the franchise in terms of enjoyment 1. I think Godzilla (2014) is easily the best one. I understand where you’re coming from on your criticism of it but my I could argue that since the idea is about giving the grounded perspective to the enormity of the monsters, then we can’t the protagonist just be a regular guy trying to get to his family in this time of insane danger. Also, the cutting away from the Godzilla action until the end was a method of building it up not about being what you call cinematic fast food with having just constant battles.

I have not fully finished Monarch yet: 1) Godzilla vs. Kong - My recent dip into the Toho films has made me realise what this movie is going for, and it does it much better than some of them. Characters serve enough purpose, but it's all about the kaijus fighting. The older Showa era films were all this pulpy goodness, and this is that but in with 21st century VFX and better action. Plus the movie doesn't have long periods of downtime. 2) Kong: Skull Island - The strange anomaly where it kind is dumb, but also the one that has a story and lore going on the most. Not one I revisit often, but it is well made with great visuals and great actors) 3) Godzilla (2014) - Probably the best in terms of artistic merit. Till Bryan Cranston is alive, this movie has engaging enough human drama. Though not as high as Godzilla: Minus One, but equal to my favourite Godzilla film after Minus One, 2002's Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla. That is a great movie that you should watch. Godzilla is full villain, and it's like a story of a soldier proving she is not a liability. It is a bit silly as it ties to the 1954 Godzilla by having the military build MechaGodzilla over that dead Godzilla's skeleton to fight the new Godzilla. Otherwise, this was a pleasant surprise. Best after Minus One. 4) Godzilla: King of the Monsters - I love the expansion of the universe. I love the monster action, and the characters serve their roles well. However, this film has a lot of downtime where it gets a bit boring on rewatches for me. I often just fastforward to the best moments. Plus Vera Farmiga isn't super intelligent as a character. 5) Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - Stupid fun, but yeah it kinda feels like it should have been a Kong movie with a surprise cameo by Godzilla in the finale. Remove the excess lore, and just focus on Kong. Also, the action got a bit too silly looking. I'm not sure if I liked seeing Godzilla floating in zero gravity. I know kaiju action is silly at times, but at least the other films made it look convincing to somethimng these animals could do while not looking stupid.

@koolkidz6263 I, too, was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. Like when we were with the main girl for a long time, realised how much I enjoyed knowing her in the film. Also, that's why I was kind of disappointed with Tokyo SOS. It's still good enough, but if she was still the lead there it would have been more emotionally strong when Kiryu decided to leave.

Not gonna lie, New empire wasn’t the best! I’m sad that the family that we’ve seen since Godzilla 2014, wasn’t in it at all! And they play such a big part in the story, but they weren’t there and that made New Empire not as good as I thought it was gonna be! Also I had a horrible experience with GxK because these girls in the back wouldn’t shut up! I tell them to shush, and they cuss me out! The movie as a whole was good but that experience was not fun!

3:34 I can see that with certain parts of wrestling, but mostly in eras left in the past. There are some wrestlers who have broken boundaries in the way they tell stories, like the late Bray Wyatt for example. Just my take personally.

Godzilla 2014 is leaps and bounds above the subsequent four films, which are progressively getting worse. 2014 was a great film, in addition to being the visual treat of a monster movie that we came to see. It was grounded in reality and told from the perspective of humanity. And the character of Ford most certainly had a rewarding arc. Many of us got it. Many did not. Sean did not.

1. KOTM - Kaiju glory at its finest IMO. 10/10 2. Skull Island - Best characters by far, and an engaging plot full of fun Kaiju scenes. 9/10 3. GvK - A fun, dumb movie about a giant lizard fighting a giant monkey. Flashy and awesome. 8.5/10 4. GxK - Just like GvK, some scenes just felt rushed. Great villain though. 8.5/10 5. Godzilla - Still love this movie, just not enough Kaiju stuff for me. 7.5/10 6. Monarch - Cool concept, but my overall reaction was just “meh.” Could’ve been much better. My ranking would be: 7) Skull Island: Animated Series (D Tier) 6) Godzilla King Of The Monsters (C Tier: Mainly because I wanted Ghidorah to look golder) 5) Godzilla x Kong (C Tier) 4) Godzilla v Kong (C Tier) 3) Kong Skull Island (B Tier) 2) Godzilla 2014 (B Tier) 1) Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters (B Tier: But the May episode D Tier) But I love every project in its own way (Ok, except the Skull Island animated show. Kong: Skull Island has the best human character work and the survival element in that film elevates it.
