i did it 20 years ago , i still remember the feeling i went trough, it was beautifull and scary , i dunno if i could still do it... you slip on the left you are dead, you slip on the right maybe you could be only injured... i love this amazing place, but it is not for everybody

Hey, hey, thanks & hope all good?! Yeah, having a longer break from climbing changes a lot so after some time you again start to afraid of things that seemed to be normal at the time when you were putting yourself under the risk more often. Anyway, I am sure you could still do it, maybe on shaking legs but then I am guessing they were shaking a little those 20 years ago either, right?! :D Take care, Mate, and all the best! :)

Non climber here. Does the rope connecting the two actually provide safety? I feel like if one person slips, it would just pull the other person with them.

Hey, well, yes and no. If one falls to the right, then another must immediately jump to the left. Whether it will work, especially if the falling one is in the back, you never know and I'd better avoid trying. Cheers.

I'm looking to walk Aiguille du Midi to Mont Blanc summit in the summer... are the paths solid and walkable or is there chances of crevasses?? Thanks
@YourPIGgiee7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, as far as I remember there were almost no crevasses on the 3 mounts traverse at that time. Surely, there was a small one on Mount Maudit - you can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJWwgKeJeZ6qprM , but nothing too dangerous as you can see. Otherwise, the paths were solid and walkable so no worries. The biggest potential danger on this route might be your physical condition, because it is a pretty long distance to walk up the tree hills and to get back to the tent at the same day so you should start your summit day as early as possible. For us the trip took something about 13 hours or so. Should you have any queries, please feel free to let me know. Cheers & good luck! :)

YourPIGgiee thank you so much. I am there to run the 80km Mont Blanc ultra. The idea was to hike Mont Blanc from Chamonix, but I'm thinking just to hike from Aiguille du Midi (4.7mile one way) due to having done the race a few days earlier. My intention is to get there early and do a good pace to get out and back well in time. Thank you for your help Mike

Hi Mike, happy to help whenever possible & you are welcome. Now, man, if you are there to run 80km ultra then the traverse will be nothing, but a piece of cake for you. Fingers crossed, buddy, for both the aforementioned. :)

YourPIGgiee thank you. Did you go to the summit yourself??

You are welcome, Mike. And yes, I did and, actually, I did it twice: for the first time via the traverse in September 2013, and then via the Goutier route in August 2014. The funny thing is I am being asked to go there again this summer... ;-)

Man, I walked down this years ago. The transition from the platform out onto the ice just makes the exposure feel horrid. I love mountains, but I didnt like that much. Amazing how you become resiliant to the exposure after a day or two, though. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Hey Chris, yeah, it was the same for me. Leaving the platform with 23kg on my back, shaking legs and in a strong wind, man, I agree it is nothing you want to do on a daily basis. Greetings.

Sorry. I can not figure this out. I have my terrain map open in front of me studying the route. But according to my map the Col Du Mid is almost South South West (SSW) of the Aiguille Du Midi. But the camera mans shadow is directly in front of him. Therefore he must be walking North. North would be towards the Aiguille Du Plan. That is in the opposite direction to the Col Du Midi. Can some tell me if I am right or wrong? If they were walking towards the Col Du Midi southwards then Mont Blanc Du Tacul should be towering in front of them as it is almost directly south of the Aiguille Du Midi. I estimate the time to be close to noon. TY. By the way great photography.

I have been there, and probably it because the road turns, so it is just the way down from the lift, which is pretty scary to be honest especially back up, but the road turns after a couple of hundred meters it is turns right and after you kind a go to west but the actual mountain is on the north if I am thinking about it.Our tent was right in front of the mountain so we could start from the bottom next day morning but the sun went down next to it on the right so that is west. In the light of these informations the mountain semmed to me be on the north but whatever, we did not have map :)
