Riding Solo is a video series about motorcycling alone in the USA backcountry on a BMW 1200 GS motorcycle. The videos were filmed during a 6,000 mile/30-day solo ride in the summer of 2020 in locations including Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Each episode focuses on great motorcycling roads (paved and dirt), camping, cooking and relaxing in scenic and remote locations. The purpose of the series is to show viewers how easy it is to ride solo on a motorcycle adventure in the USA backcountry.

What you say about "smoothing it" reminded me of being deployed overseas and how it was living out of a rucksack or a humvee, moving from place to place and living in the open or in half built (or bombed) structures.... and how really nice it was when we were able to make a morning coffee or enjoy a meal or make a warm comfy hooch. It's amazing how a morning, MRE-inspired cappuccino -- i.e. canteen water, two hot chocolates, two sugars, two non-dairy creamers and two folgers instant coffee packs -- heated over a fire or a hiker's stove would make all the previous discomfort bearable. No adventure worth having is comfortable all the time... but if it can be some of the time.... count me in.

Cool man, love your honesty, I’m 56 and have done many camping adventures, a pick up truck and simple high top aluminum camper to a van camper to a 37 foot motor home ( that sucked) and was a lesson learned, simple is better by far and now I just ordered a Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure bike and really can’t wait to get out there because a motorcycle takes you to almost unlimited places where a motor home or truck camper or van camper can’t take you, I’ve been worried a little about my age and aches and pains and stiff back etc but hey we only live the life we choose, thanks for your video and your positive words.

This is what the freedoms of motorcycling is all about. I've been aware of the work from Sterling Noren for a few years now. It never disappoints! From time to time, I've looked at searches for other motorcycle touring vloggers, but "1900 miles in one day" (On the Interstate Highway) just doesn't do it for me. You'd see more scenery, sitting on the bus! Please keep doing what you are doing Sterling, you are an inspiration to those of us who actually want to see what your countryside is all about.

I watch a lot of "moto-vlogging" on KZbin and often contemplate if I have the financial means or commitment to try it for myself, but your videos truly are mini-movies and show that there are levels to how committed one can be to the presentation. Twelve episodes in and I realize that while you shoot video, that you don't talk while riding but give us updates throughout the video. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. Godspeed!

I've purchased every item from the Firebox Stove channel/site except for the folding out vehicle attaching table and the expensive knives. I use my Firebox almost every single day sometimes even twice. As a trucker it makes living out of the truck so much more fun. Often times Truckers come over asking what the heck I'm doing. Several times I've had a grocery store nearby and someone run off for some meats and I'll break out the 8 panel and have a cookout, so much fun. Firebox is absolutely my favorite piece of all my bugout gear in 10k spent. Loving the adventure, keep thriving :)

Great video! This past August I did a similar route, Southern California to Sidney, MT and back in 22 days. That comment about "smoothing it" really spoke to me. On said trip, I spent every night on a thin, foam sleeping pad in a 1p tent so small that I couldn't fully sit up. Now I'm smoothing things out with a top of the line, nearly twin-size air matress and a 3p tent. It makes all the difference. I honestly think I could live full-time with this setup.

The funny thing about those "uncomfortable situations" we run into when out on our adventure trips, it seems like hell when we are going through them, but when we remember those times, we miss them, and want to do it again. Sounds like you were doing a lot of soul searching that night. It's a good thing, and keeps us centered in our lives.

Why would eanyone bring a table on an offroad trip, when you have 2 hard side cases that can be used as chair and a table, or hammock as a chair and 2 cases for a bigger table.. Plus he brought a chair.. Full of bad advices.. The lighter you are the better and you have less things to pack..

Great stuff Sterling I really like the table in the firebox. Decades ago I added a food dehydrator to my must-have list. It has paid for itself many times over for those just add water meals except mine are homemade will never spoil and are not preserved with a ton of sodium in foil packet. I dehydrate fruits including the fruit leather so-called and many vegetables and fish, it could not be easier both in the preparation and in the packing. Add to that the variety it's all up to you you can make soups and stews you can make a complete meal you can make small portions you can pre-package it or mix it up as you camp if you really want to save space you can get a vacuum sealer and bag it that way. other than that trader Joe's is one of the best deals going as they have a lot of food that's partly cooked and sealed in bags- add water and eat , including the Indian foods, but in Bear country that's asking for trouble...

Talking about weight... Many, many moons ago I was out like you are now on my R1100GS. I had metal bags, and had packed everything I owned it seemed. Heavy. I was attempting ro cross a sandy area with head sized boulders everywhere and started getting stuck and falling over. Eventually, I just unloaded everything, walked my stuff like a half mile till the trail got better, then when back and rode the bike out. By rode, I mean falling like every 100 feet, pick it up, go again. Rinse , repeat. I've never had to leave my bike, but I considered it that day. 👍 I will tell you, that R1100GS was so tough. Thru all that, just a little paint was scratched, a little dent here and there. I did have some 'crash bars' I had had made by a welder friend of mine. I was really surprised.
