Dude you killed it. We stopped down opening day and it was just too windy to see anything. Took 1 female 1 male. Still a blast. Great video! My favorite yet!

Thanks! It took a long time. The fish moved through in small numbers. Turned out good but took loner then I would have liked.

Greetings from a fellow Montanan! I just came across your channel. I love snagging salmon. I haven’t been there yet but I’m hoping to make it up there this year. Keep on keeping on! New sub.

Thanks for the sub. The last couple years the numbers have been way down at the falls. Still a blast and very beautiful.

What time of year will they hit lures vs having to snag? Is now a good time to go after em?
@ReelMontana11 ай бұрын
Usually before snagging season. Snagging opens on September 15th. We have never had luck getting them to bite on the Kootenia. We have never tried other then snagging season. But the people that live close do hit it many times earlier and do well. They are usually line shy by snagging season.

@@ReelMontana Sweet noted keep up the great work. I caught a spawning chinook snagging up by fort peck a week or so ago. Next target are the spawning kokanee but I am pretty clueless about it, never done it.

@@bobfamilyproductions4 Love Fort Peck. We don’t snag but we do spend time there in the summer chasing salmon. With kokes you just want to pop your jig/spoon lit it drop pop again. They usually get pretty fired up.

Do you need a special fishing license for snagging?

@@lbcustomleather You do not. Just make sure you are doing it in season and in the designated areas.

@ReelMontana We live in Trout Creek and wanted to try the Kootenai. I was looking for the date this year and couldn't find it on the regulations. Is it September 15th every year ?
@ReelMontana3 күн бұрын
@@lbcustomleather Yes. September 15th is the day for the tobacco river, graves creek, and Kootenai river. On the east side of the mountain it is different.

What's the point? These are boot spawners. They're dog food at best.

They are still firm and somewhat pink if they have spots (good for smoking). But once the spots are gone they are usually no good. But yes many of them are no good.

Are they still running up in libby? I went to graves creek opening day and hit my limit in an hour!
@ReelMontana3 жыл бұрын
They are, but it isn't likely you will get a limit that fast. They come in waves and are spread out across the river. Just got to be patient and pick them off as they come through. If you get there at the right time you could get a limit fairly quick

What do you do with super red kokanee like that? The meat is grey and inedible

We have found that as long as there are still visible spots on their backs that the meat is still firm and edible. Yes some of the fish will be trash and the meat will not be bright pink. We then smoke what is still firm.
