Free is not accurate. The Healthcare is universal and everyone is able to get help if needed, without thinking about the financial consequences. So itˋs not „pay 30k or die“ or „oh you want to deliver a baby - here is your 12k bill“. BUT everyone who works spends a part of the salary on the healthcare ( i think itˋs 14 or 15% of your gross monthly salary for the compulsory health insurance). Still the whole system is focused on being beneficial for everyone, not on the benefits of the individual/a part of the population. i know a lot of people who mistake this whole „free healthcare“ thing for „you donˋt have to pay anything to be covered“

I am an American who lived in Germany for almost 30 years. I returned to the US because my parents were getting ill in old age and they begged me to return. Bad move. Life in Germany is a lot easier because people respect each other more. They are not as selfish. And the healthcare system, the retirement system, the care for people with disabilities, for people in need, the education, the access to culture and more - these are ALL better and cheaper. Indeed, there are not as many really rich people in Germany but everybody is more equal. Germans do not believe that you are a "self made man" - in fact the expression is said in English and with a bit of irony. Why? Because they know that a community gives people the chance to earn more, learn more, enjoy more. I dislike the American system. Maybe it was great 100 years ago. But world culture has moved on. America is falling behind. Americans are more superstitious, more "religious" (so they say), more conservative. Too bad, because "conservative" does not mean "conservation" but "Letʻs return to the 19th century. I like your video a lot.

its not the smart driver, it is the driving system. you have to drive on the right site unless you want to take over, so you signal, pull over, pass and go to the right site again. in US you are all over the place and you cant watch every site as good as only one
@dnocturn844 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. If you would allow people in Germany to pass slower cars on every lane, driving faster than 140km/h would be impossible (among other things of course). No human driver can watch all lanes for a free lane while fast cars are appoaching to the right and left lane of you at the same time. This would result in horrible accidents. Same goes for the rule to drive on the right most lane when possible. If every driver who is slower than you, just sticks to his favorit lane, like for example the middle lane, chances are, that you will pull a dangerous move to pass this car at some point in time, because you are annoyed of this.
@dnocturn844 жыл бұрын
But don't underestimate the effect of the mandatory technical check every car has to pass in an intervall of two years in Germany (Hauptuntersuchung + Abgasuntersuchung). There are so many cars in a really bad shape on US roads. And I'm just talking about the ones that are clearly broken; things like proper working break systems aren't even visible by the look of a car. I guess there are at least 30% of US cars currently on the road, that would not be allowed to be used in Germany.
@nobodyisthere56334 жыл бұрын
and that is absolutely annoying in the US .... last time we really got crazy ... three lanes blocked with cars running with the exact same velocity ... and in front of them ... all lanes are free 🤔😳🥴🥴🥴 does anybody thought about moving his car to one of the right lanes ... NO ! ... WTF ... could'nt somebody of the drivers imagine, that one of the several hundred cars behint them might want to overtake ???🤔😒
@larsbonau40674 жыл бұрын
In addition to that: For the "German drivers are so smart and therefore they can drive at those speeds" -> The logic is upside down. Because we have people who drive at really high speed, we need to be aware of any other driver in case of an emergency. When I drive here in Germany I always try to look at least two cars ahead. If the third car in front of me brakes, I take my foot from the accelerator. If I don't drive on the right lane and I see someone in my rear mirror approaching I check for a gap on the right lane and try to leave the left lane before the other car gets close. When I am in the Netherlands: I just drive and let things happen. Cars are roughly the same speed, if you are on whatever they call their Autobahn, there are no surprises. Traffic mostly flows and it is just calm, driving Autobahn in Germany can get boring after a while because nothing really happens, driving Autobahn in the Netherlands is a challenge for your tiredness. (I imagine that driving a High Way in the USA which goes just straight for an eternity is my personal driver's nightmare.) So, yes I am one of those "smart drivers" but not because I am somewhat special but just because I need to be that while on the Autobahn. Any American who drives on the German Autobahn for more than a few weeks will be just as "smart". There is no reason to believe that Germans are inherently better drivers.

@@blaeh44 It's not impossible to find cheaper driving schools around the country, like you've mentioned. But people paying somewhat between 2-3k just with the standard amount of hours and without failing once do exist today. You are just lucky. Cost for a German driving license does vary a lot (from region to region, from driving school to driving school). I live in a more rural area with only 3 driving schools in close proximity. The cheapest one does offer their service for 1800 € right now (only the required minimum amound of driving hours included), while the most expensive (but also the one with the best success rate) one charges you with 2700 €. My cousin had to pay just 1500 € in 2019 at one of the cheapest driving schools in a very big city in the north with many competetive driving schools. A driving instructor and a good friend of me who moved to southern Germany recently told me, that a driving license is much more expensive at his new home due to much higher salary in general.

And you’re right about the bread, the icecream and the döner- life wouldn’t be the same here without them. To make the body feel cooler you need to consume something hot. That's why coffee and tea is more popular in hot countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Marokko and so on, also in northern mediterranean regions like Italy). In the northern countries it isn't and/or wasn't that hot and if so, only for a much shorter while. So people enjoy the taste and coolness of ice cream more and are not so used to consuming something hot at those times.

@Weird Yu-Gi-Oh! Kid The PISA test is only marketing. You cannot compare worldwide education quality as they do with PISA. Because education e.g. in German schools is much more problem-solving driven. In the US it's more multiple-choice-driven. In Germany we have the lowest rate of Youth unemployment and highest level of industrial quality...but we are only average at PISA. Why ? Because the PISA system does not match the skills of German students and it doesn't include the job trainee programs.

@Weird Yu-Gi-Oh! Kid Two things interconnected: poor education, poor economic results. And misallocation of ressources. Regarding 'smarter drivers' : well, to get a driver's license here in Germany is a lengthly, expensive process. You need to have 12 lessons (90 minutes each) where you learn about the basic rules, 2 extra sessions (120 minutes each) where you learn things about cars (mechanic, gear boxes, kludges, brakes etc) . This is done in a 'Fahrschule' (Driving school?). Then the theoretical exam: it consist of (I think) 20 questions (out of about 1000 possible questions), multiple choice, often with pictures or short videos which show traffic scenes which you need to analyse to be able to answer the question. However, the correct answer may require you to tick all the correct choices (two or more choices may be part of the correct answer). It's a tough exam. Then the practical training. You need to have a minimum amount of practical driving lessons and you only can do this together with a trained teacher (Fahrlehrer). The practical lessons include driving on the Autobahn, driving in darkness, driving longer distance on country roads and of course driving in cities. Then you have a practical exam where you have to show that you can drive, park the car (parallel parking usually), honor speed limits, etc. The whole process to get a license usually (there a speed courses as well) takes about 3 months (or longer) and costs about €2000,-- or more. Once you have your license (18 yrs old) you have 2 years probation. Any serious mistake (speeding, not stopping on red or so) extends this time by another 2 years and you have to attend some additional lessons which of course cost money. In rare cases you may never get the license back at all. Given all this also younger people are more careful when driving. Of course we also have our fair share of 'not so good drivers' 😀.
@lisannelenz4 жыл бұрын
However, if you get your license at 17 your probation ends 2 years after the day you got your permit. I‘m 19 and my probation ended a week ago :)
@kevinmiller11214 жыл бұрын
The process doesn't sound that different from what we have in the US, it's just not as expensive. In my state, we have a similar initial set of classroom lessons (ten 3-hour sessions), followed by a test to obtain a Learner's Permit, but we substitute most of the practical training with a parent or other experienced driver (six hours with a professional are also required). A student must log 60 hours of driving in different environments over 9 months with no violations, or the 9 months starts over. Getting your actual license requires taking a written test followed by a road test. Similar to Germany, you start with a provisional license for 18 months.
@lisannelenz4 жыл бұрын
Kevin Miller But in the US, 16-year olds can drive alone. I heard that in some states even 15-year olds (but I‘m not sure about that). In Germany, you have to drive with a parent or a registered passenger when you’re under 18. You can only drive alone when you’re 18. I think the amount of maturity you develop in those two years does make a huge difference in driving responsibly. Sure there are exceptions and it doesn’t apply to everyone but just generally speaking I think you’re more mature when you’re 18 compared to 16.
@kevinmiller11214 жыл бұрын
Lisanne Lenz That’s a fair point. I was just showing that the process isn’t terribly different even though the cost clearly is. Honestly, I think a big difference is that Germans stress lane discipline and Americans don’t. My father grew up in Germany and learned to drive there, so I learned to drive like a German with strict adherence to passing only on the left and immediately getting over to the right. I passed this on to my kids as well, but most Americans are not taught with this emphasis. This creates chaos on our highways with two cars next to each other traveling the same speed for miles 🤯. I’m very envious of the way Germans value order on their motorways!
@lisannelenz4 жыл бұрын
C J lol I didn’t mean to offend you 😂. I said that it doesn’t apply to everyone. It just may be a reason why it seems that Germans drive „better“ (the way Montana mentioned it in the video). I also know that there are many Germans that drive bad, don’t get me wrong. However alcohol is a whole different topic. When you drink a beer or wine at 16/17, you‘re only responsible for yourself. When you drive, you’re also responsible for everyone else on the road (and in your car if you’re not alone). That being said, I don’t think that you can really compare these two topics...
@3Savv4 жыл бұрын
Germans dont get their licenses thrown at you at 16. You pay for it and actually learn for it proper. But it also makes sense, in the US you absolutely need a license to get anywhere with the lack of public transport and everything being so far apart. In Germany, in urban areas at least, you can live your whole life without a license and dont miss it.

"Die Sendung mit der Maus" is educational entertainment for children. They have huge variety of topics, because they want to answer all the typical question children have. Here are 6 things a german thinks america needs: Universal Healthcare Free Education (including college/uni) Better Gun restriction laws Better trained Police A system to save the unemployed (like Harz IV in germany) Better laws that regulate workers rights, like 28 days of holiday a year minimum, maximum work time, empolyers having to give their employees time off if they are sick or injured, without it affecting their pay or their holiday etc. And yes, these things would be incredibly hard to implement in the US, as a lot of people in the US think that all this costs more than it benefits you, but that is not the case. A system that helps unemployed people strengthens the economy, as poverty costs far more. Gun restriciton laws and Universal Healthcare go well together, as with better Gunlaws this could be cheaper, as gunshoot wounds tend to cost a lot. Same with better trained police. The wokers rights laws also strenghten the economy, as a worker that has holiday works better than one who works all year, an employee that is sick but comes to work anyway because it would harm him if he dosn't could infect the other employees, leading to more losses than he can make up for working whilst being ill, etc. Free education speeks for itself, as it evens out chances for everyone, and if the kids that live in poverty can make it to Uni and get a high paying job this also helps with a lot of problems. Oh, and one thing germany needs back: You!

On some regional channels are similar cartoons like "Äffle und Pferdle" (SWR), Onkel Otto (hr) and we in the north have the walrus "Antje". Löwenzahn (dandelion in german tranlated is lion teeth, its a pun) is also an educational program for children. The moderator's narrative style is also used as an ironic stylistic device by adults today if they still haven't understood something after repeated explanations. I think one of the reasons why germans are better drivers is, that they learn a few months and then they need to do 2 tests were you can fail easly. So in germany you rly need to be good at driving and need to learn the rules before you are allowed to drive. I think in the Us you can do a quick tests or something like this but its much shorter! Oh and when you like Döner so much: A few years ago 2 german man did go to the us to sell Döner. I'm not sure if they are still there. I think they had 3 or 4 shops.

@C J Germans are the better drivers, there is no disputing that. A license here is much more expensive (like 1500-2000€) and harder to get AND after you get it you are on a 2 years trial, where you can easily lose it again. Like run a red light and you're done - a lot of money down the drain. This leades to people being way more cautious on the streets. In comparison it's laughably easy to get a license in the US (in most states afaik).

@C J Not bragging about good vs bad drivers ect, idiots are everywhere. But I still think you underestimate the German drivers licence. For the category "B", which means only cars, no trailers ect, no motorcycles, no trucks, no busses, you need: - 14 theory lessons à 90 min in class room - the theory test (of cause) - eye test (you can pass it with glasses, but it will be registered in the licence, so you are only allowed to drive with glasses or contact lenses) - 7,5 h first aid course (calling emergency, CPR, stabilization position, when and how to pull off a helmet, ...) - praxis lessons (45 min each) (normally about 20-25 lessons), required by law are at least 12: - 5 on country roads - 4 on the autobahn - 3 after sunset (double counting like "autobahn after sunset" is not allowed) - the praxis test, which takes place in traffic, consisting of driving in city/downtown traffic, country roads or autobahn, parking between cars (the tester decides if forward, backward or sideways), can contain stuff like emergency brakes ect. If you do your licence with an automatic car, you are only allowed to drive automatic (so only half of the German cars). You can do your licence tests as minor with 17, then you are only allowed to drive with a qualitifed person next to you (who must be registered before for being qualified) untill you are 18. You can only get the full licence with 18 or older (German legal age), but you are still on a probation time until you are 21 and 2 years have passed after you have done the praxis licence test. It costs so much manly because you need to pay for all those lessons. Normally it takes 4-6 months.

About the driving: What America really needs is once again, education. In Germany, there's a very comprehensive drivers education. It's an expensive process, maybe too expensive by some standard. But it's comprehensive, you really learn to drive, you learn all the rules and the importance of following them, and you only get to drive on your own if you pass a 45 minute practical exam as well as a theoretical test of thirty questions with an official body called the TÜV. And you only get to take the exams when you can show to your driving instructor in the last few driving lessons that you are ready, that you can drive following all the rules, so there's really no way to slip through the cracks and pass just because you were lucky. Also, there's a technical inspection of every car every two years to make sure they are safe to drive which further enhances the safety of traffic in Germany. By German standards, many cars on the road in the US are "Ein Fall für den Schrottplatz", which means they would better belong on a junkyard.
@elita2cents4 жыл бұрын
And don't forget, whenever you do commit a traffic rule violation, you are one step closer to lose your license permanently.
@InterFelix4 жыл бұрын
@@elita2cents well, it really depends. The system of penalty points is pretty sophisticated. Most offenses that just happen because you were driving a little too carelessly won't get you a point, only a fine. However, if you drive way too fast (like more than 20kph over the speed limit) you will get one or even two points, depending on how much you were over. And you only lose your license once you have eight points. Also, the points will be deleted after some period of time depending on the severity of the offence. If you only got one point, it will be deleted after two and a half years. If you got two points for one offence, those will only get deleted after five years. And if you got three points for one offence, they will only get deleted after ten years.

6 German Things the US ACTUALLY need: 1. universal healthcare 2. multiparty system 3. robust social security system 4. strong unions 5. robust public educational system 6. willingness for international cooperation

Danke, liebe Montana, You are the sweetest and smartest American Teenager-Girl I heard and saw off! Thank You for telling us German-People how many Things we have to thank to our Country and Habits!

Äh, Vorsicht: "saw off" würde in diesem Kontext "absägen" bedeuten. "I ever heard or saw" oder "I have ever heard or seen" wären die unverfänglichen und grammatikalisch korrekten Formulierungen.
@Rainerjgs3 жыл бұрын
@@rockyblacksmith Ich dachte die Beugung von "to see" lautet "see, saw, seen"! Oder etwa nicht?
@rockyblacksmith3 жыл бұрын
"heard of and saw" würde auch noch funktionieren. Es ist relativ analog zum Deutschen, man kann "von etwas hören", aber nicht im gleichen Sinne "von etwas sehen".

Döner is actually not of turkish origin, the original Döner was invented in Berlin, Germany.

Genau.

I still watch the "Sendung mit der Maus" as an adult, or, to be more specific: I watch only the "Sachgeschichten" which are the parts where they explain certain things or show how stuff is made. I love the specials about different countries. Ralf, one of the moderators, visits a family in another country and goes to school with the children and they show him their place and city and how they live. There are also travel specials about Germany where they travel along a big river like the Rhine and show all the interesting places along the way, of course in a way that children like. If you want to watch some of the Sachgeschichten, you can find them here on KZbin or on their official website. They might be good for learning German, too, because the language is easy, in order for children to understand everything.

"Sendung mit der Maus" was really edutainment. Some entertaining as the Czech mole cartoons, some showing how the telephone service provides the time.

Most people in the US aren't fat. We just have a higher obesity rate than other countries because fast food is cheap and prevalent, but having more obese people is not the same as everyone being fat.

Kevin Miller I do remember, that it was close to impossible to get anything my size in the USA (a German 36/38 - US 6/8 at the time) most was for skinny or overweight to obese women.

Hi Montana, first: I am from Germany and I love your videos. I am in an age to easily be your grandpa (64), but your vivid style is something which makes watching the videos a lot of fun. Secondly: If I am not mistaken, you are from VA. If you want a very good Döner, I recommend you go to Leesburg (VA) and taste the Döner at Doener USA doener-usa.com/. When they still had a branch in DC, I went there and had the very best Döner of my life. And I had plenty in many places in Germany. - Please continue with your great videos for a long time!

If you liked Die Sendung mit der Maus, try watching Lowenzahn, it is a similar concept but without cartoons. It has a catchy jingle though. Or the Once upon a time ... cartoons. They are frensh origin but so so good and informativ. Educational for every child without forcing knowledge onto them.
