Monteagle TN down the mountain to Chattanooga Tennessee

Been up and down those roads many times. Seeing the trucks slowly driving the right lane with flashers on is a very familiar sight. Great video.

Great video Jeff! Every mile of this video you featured brings back so many fond memories of so many times I have driven that route (in both directions)! Whether I was traveling with Family to visit relatives in Georgia and Florida or when I drove a semi over the road. Many many fond memories of that entire stretch from back in Illinois all the way to Chattanooga and back. I recognized every mile of it! That just brings great memories flooding back! Mark in Iowa.

Monteagle is probably the scariest part of the trip down to florida. One wrong move and something bad could happen especially since I usually drive on that road at night

I'm Arthur Bhutic. Years ago, I was a hitchiker here from Houston trying to return to Northwest South Carolina for a visit where I used to live in the 1980s. I've slid downhill. While I was aware of truck run off ramps on the left side. By that, I ran to the left side. Went I then went down, I slid and almost twice feel of a bridge or a cliff. Just that I slid into a run off truck ramp. I almost was there left for dead, due to the cold of winter that I became unconscious. I was fortunate a truck driver slid into that run off ramp. Then he saw me and did CPR. Or else, I wouldn't be here right now. He had me checked out at the closest hospital. Then I rode with him that I got to South Carolina.

is this a scary road? we will be driving to Florida next month. Is there an alternate ruote to avoid this steep road? Coming from MN.

It can be a little intimidating just slow down before you start the decent. this route is probably the perfered route.

The 1st time I drove this Jeff, I thanked God I drove GOING-TO-THE-SUN RD. through Glacier National Park 1st. -had I not, I would have soiled myself. 😂

Notice all the trucks in the right lane, with lights flashing it a 6 percent grade. They have to used a lower gear ratio, watch their speed, and used the Jakes-brakes to slow the engine down. Going down these dangerous grades too fast, and riding your trucks brakes will burn them out.

Slow down before you start going down the mountain, you will pick up speed as you go down.

As you’re going down the mountain, are you slowly pressing on your brake at all? I’ve never driven down a mountain and am a little nervous. I’ll be driving in a car not a semi.

No I don’t use my breaks, I usually slow down before I get there and coast down the mountains

Usually when I drive thru there, the Chattanooga traffic jam starts right around I-59. I like jumping off on Hwy 11 when I can. Beautiful stretch of road between Monteagle and Chattanooga, but it can be very scary sometimes.

@@curtisbarkley3576 It's a very tricky and curvy road, going up and down a mountain. Now that I re-read my comment, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Driving into Chattanooga, I like to get off the interstate near I-59, because Chattanooga traffic is horrible. I get on Hwy 11 and avoid the interstate. But driving over Monteagle Mountain is something that can't be easily avoided when heading down I-24. It's a crazy scary stretch of interstate.
