Can you make a video about how to “follow your child”? I totally get the concept, but how do you carry that out practically? Maybe giving some examples? I feel like that would be so helpful!!

I bring up the whole concept of play being the work of the child ALL THE TIME in job interviews. While I haven't had many families who are looking specifically for Montessori education from a nanny, I do run into quite a few families who are focusing a LOT on academics. I will often mention that even simple activities like using kid-friendly chopsticks to transfer sponge squares from one bowl to the next can help develop fine motor skills that will help their child learn how to write. When the child builds with blocks and discovers that a wide base makes a more stable bottom, they're learning the basics of engineering. Even a toddler who likes to drop things from a high chair or a young child who likes to play with the refrigerator magnets is learning about physics. Some of those practical life skills also overlap into other areas of learning. Caring for pets? Biology. Helping to cook/bake? Chemistry.

My daughter is 16 months old, and what I'm worried about is that she is missing a lot of experiences. I don't bring her along when I go buy groceries, we don't travel like we used to, she can't play freely with other children in a park and so on. I can't wait for this pandemic to be over.

I have to remind myself that this isn’t forever and there’s plenty of time for my son to have those experiences. I try to focus on the experiences he does get. It would be nice to play with other kids but I know really he just needs his parents right now ❤️ (at least that’s what I tell myself! Lol)

Oh man I have to remind myself on the daily not to stress so much! My son is just over 1 and is a busy bee walking around the house getting into ‘mischief’ ( all in yes spaces so it’s allowed mischief lol) and rarely wants anything to do with the shelves that I stress so much about! He likes to take things off the shelves but doesn’t usually engage in the actual activity. Right now he prefers to find his own activity ( why use the containers I have laid out for him to open when he can find his own in the recycling bin 🤣)

I have the same with my 1 year old boy at the moment. He throws everything out and sticks his face into the tubs but he also seems to like lids. He keeps trying to take them off and put them on - I’m trying to think of lids and jars he could entertain himself with.

I love these points. As a mother to an older child, I do feel that there needs to be a balance with addressing basic foundational learning and allowing the day to pass in a "learning experience manner". Things like reading, basic operations, number concepts etc. should be definitive parts of a daily routine if homeschooling at home. With older children, the draw of screens seems to be more often a priority for them, so encouraging direct learning experiences I think needs to be in the forefront. Just wanted to chime in with my thoughts.

Thank you! Really needed to hear this. Very often I want things to be perfect, and see videos and posts with their perfect moments and your perfect house and shelf with everything on its place and here I am with toys all over the place because what my son is interested right now is going over all his animals and cars with his big truck, he is having fun and listening to this video today I think I need to embrace it and be happy with him. And realize no one is perfect no matter what I see online and everything will be fine. Thank you again.

Thank you for sharing this video. I live in a very small apartment that doesn’t allow enough space for pretty shelves for toys, a toddler table and chair for her to play at, or a self care station/child’s wardrobe for her to learn to dress herself. I often feel like I’m “missing out” on Montessori activities or practical life stuff that she doesn’t have the opportunity to do due to the lack of space we have. I often wonder if my 13 month old daughter is “behind” in her learning development because she doesn’t show any interest in stacking rings, or doesn’t know how to scribble yet and instead puts the crayon in her mouth. She seems to just enjoy throwing things, putting things in her mouth, and hiding under her activity centre. She hasn’t learned to walk yet and doesn’t like to crawl. She just scoots on her bum and follows me around. Thank you for reminding me that everything is learning and the most important thing is for me to build a beautiful childhood for my daughter. ❤️ ...And what Kylie said, “Mommy, I want to build memories with you”...that is soooo remarkably sweet and adorable! 😍 I’m sure it struck a chord in your heart. I know I would get so emotional if I heard that from my little girl. 🥰🥰🥰💕💕💕

A very enlightening and inspirational video. I’ve been following your channel since my daughter was 6 months old, she’s now 13 months old. I resigned my position as a clinical pharmacist at that time, after watching a few videos from your channel and subsequently delving into Dr. Montessori’s literature. It’s the best yet the most difficult decision I’ve ever made and I’d like use this as a platform to truly thank you for your guidance and advice through your channel. This video has helped me recalibrate my compass. We are a bit unique in that we’re a Montessori military family. We just moved to Germany on military orders amidst COVID, and it has certainly been trying. I think as Montessori moms and dads, we often forget to follow and enjoy our child when we’re implementing Montessori methodologies and understanding ideologies. Your really just hit the nail on the head with every bit of advice and it was exactly what I needed today and moving forward. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I need this so much. I been waking up at the same time as my child and it doesn't work for me because at the end of the night I feel drain and I be all day in a bad mood and she feel it to because she gets upset all day when this happen so I wake up 1 to 3 our earlier then her so I can have some me time and I saw the change so much in her and in me. This also gave me so much ideas and help to relax my mind.

I love this! we may know it in our heads but its nice and so helpful to hear someone we admire say it, you have a beautiful way of speaking and saying things, they just make sense. As much as I love Montessori, there's no much out there that can make you feel like you are not doing enough or doing it right. I often find myself telling me that Montessori in itself is "simplicity" otherwise its the opposite effect. We picked out some pumpkins with my almost 4yr old the other day and he wanted to put them in the fireplace, in his wise and innocent mind he said: I wonder what Santa will say when he sees the pumpkins, I hope he likes them , it was such a small observation that filled me with love and reminded me that he sees beauty and wonder in what I may sometimes see as a small mundane thing. Thank you for all your videos, I hope you know they mean a lot to many of us, they have made an impact on many people including me. Its a wonderful thing to be able to help and inspire others, the world needs more of it, and you are doing it

Thank you Ashley! Another great video as always. I appreciate so much what you are doing with creating these videos and have also been enjoying your e-course. I have to say, I was trying to explain something to a friend mine about the concept of flow and independent play and I searched for 10 minutes on the internet for an article I could show him that would explain it and I couldn't find anything that was nearly as well written as your chapter on it in your e-course. So I told him he needs to sign up for your e-course before he ruins his kid. Haha, jk.....but sort of not.... 😅

Hi, just want to say, LOVE your channel! It has really helped me and inspire me in my journey as a montessori mom. Before my daughter , now 2 as of MAR .4TH, I had never heard of montessori. I'm so glad I came across this, it has been a struggle but we try our best 😊 Just wondering if you have any suggestions with language cards.. I had printed out some cards for an activity. I don't have colored ink so pictures are black and white.. i was going to use clear packing tape to put over them to make them more durable.. is there any other way to prepare this or is it ok as is?

I pray you read this. I purchased the e course and was trying to see if I could contact you on there but it isn’t available. You uploaded a video with the songs your children sing with you like the putting on pants song but I cannot find it. I really would love to write down all of the songs or if you could add them to the e course I would appreciate it so much!

The little area to contact me is not very obvious, it’s up in the top right corner when you click on your profile photo, I think. ☺️ So for the future, if you want to email me that way, you certainly can. As far as your question... I think I may have removed that video for privacy reasons (along with a few others). But for you and anyone else who is looking for the little songs that were in the video, they were: Putting on pants (no tune in particular, words are spoken as the actions are being done): Tag on the ground, feet in the the holes, wiggle ‘em up til you’ll see your toes, and then stand up, and pull ‘em up over your butt/bum! Brushing teeth (to the tune of Frere Jacques): Brush my teeth, brush my teeth Brush them well, brush them well Rinse my mouth with water, rinse my mouth with water Spit it out, spit it out Putting on a coat (Montessori coat flip): Tag by the toes, arms in the holes, swing it up, and over it goes!

@@HapaFamily I am freaking out that you replied! Ahhh!! That may seem silly to you but I had a baby last year. She just turned 1 and I have been watching you since before she was born. You have helped me in the process of becoming a mother! I watch all of your videos and appreciate the knowledge I have gained from you so much!! As Mia grows and you make the age recommended toy videos I purchase every one I can find lol. Again I truly appreciate you!

Unschooling - is a philosophy that I think you and your family would really jive with. John Holt is the "father" of it. Check it out.

You mentioned allowance being an entirely other topic. Do you have a video on this? I’m very interested in the approach you take to introducing financial literacy to a preschooler. Thanks!

Hi 👋🏽 I’m sorry, I know this is off topic. I wanted to ask what kind of printer do you use? I am still trying to learn how to incorporate Montessori to my 2 toddler girls and I few like having visuals will help us. I’m just stuck finding a printer that is affordable and of good quality Please and thank you Also, you are doing such a great job as a mom and as a person

Not related to the video but i've been trying to find where to get a little shoe tray for my toddlers shoes and a plate divider to organize a lower drawer so they can be more independent. Would you mind sharing where you got yours? Thanks so much!
