Monteverdi rules! Bring us one video with the legendary Palm Beach. It is the top of the tops.
@DJAC6310 жыл бұрын
Yes. Only one Palm Beach was made. Sad, really. Such a wonderful car. But they only made two original Hai models too. Peter Monteverdi was as misleading as Tony Crook of Bristol Cars when it came to production figures. Bothe of these companies were really 'boutique' manufacturers.
@Dynamitarian10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, mate. Only one Palm Beach.. We are talking about the most beautiful cabriolet/ convertible ever made. Just makes me wonder how is it possible that nobody had bought the one single piece ever made when it was available. I guess its price is astronomical.
@DJAC6310 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough, the price in 1975 was £14,500 in British currency - although I suspect he never meant to sell the prototype showcar he paraded around Europe for five years. Both the 375/4 & the High Speed prototypes were schlepped all over the Car Show circuit along with the Hai, Hai 450SS & several other Frua/Fissore clad beauties during the seventies as Peter Monteverdi strove to stick his finger in the other remaining eye of the difficult Enzo Ferrari that Mr Lamborghini hadn't already poked out with the Miura, Espada, Jarama, Uracco & Countach efforts........ Unfortunately, then came the Monteverdi Sierra & other godawful efforts, effectively turning the company into Bitter Cars 1.0..........
@DJAC6310 жыл бұрын
Oh and....... RUST. The defining characteristic of the most beautiful, audacious boulevard cruisers outside of the Jensen Intercepter III and FF models of similar ilk/spec/power/proportion & desirability. The Intercepter Cabriolet is so very nearly as perfect as the Palm Beach. Also 7.2 litre V8 Chrysler power, with smooth Torqueflite transmission. Also with bodies to die for - shortly after they disintegrated into rusty powder at the first sight of a northern European summer shower...... Would I still give up every penny I have to own any one of them? Oooooh yes. You betcha!
@Dynamitarian10 жыл бұрын
I believe we are going to obtain one for each of us.. By the Law of Attraction ! ;-) You take an Jensen Intercepter III and for moi a Palm Beach !
@cindys18193 жыл бұрын
Well, the Monteverdi was more imporant as an insight into the social politics of the GT/exotic car world. First Monteverdi had a big reliable and a Simple to mainain and repair, American big block engine. This is a major transgression in Euro snoid GT land. Only the Itanians were sort of "allowed" to try something like this and not become the target of attack or faint Praise in the Euro, and by extention world, automotive press. Anyone who was over there at the time knows howr eally nasty debate was on if an American Engine car is a valid GT car. And what "class"of person would buy a car like that....But Peter Monteverdi is my hero because when the critism/ nasty attitudes started, unlike others in the small car manufactures, he told the critics and naysayers " Oh you dont like my 375? Well....how do you like THIS ANDhe produced the 425 HAI. If the exotics/GT snobs didnt like he 440.. Well, heres our new exotix....powered Bu a Chrysler HEMI. Half of the automotive press FAINTED and carefully avoided any mentoon of the Hai..... But Peter Monteverdi remains an inside super hero to anyone who was really knowlegable of hecera. And his critics a nd detractors? No one remembers their names whatsoever....
