I just love the fact that Jay gets out in his cars, all of them are runners, no trailer/garage queens in his collection. One of a kind car worth millions of dollars.....c'mon, lets take it for a spin. Love it!!

Never stop making these amazing videos, Jay. They're just brilliant! Every time a new one appears I have to stop what I'm doing to watch. This Monteverdi has such elegant lines, like a hairy-chested 250GT Lusso. And oh yeah, maroon is the new black!

An absolute masterpiece, well ahead of its time. I personally prefer the 375 L with the front quad headlamps. Brave of Peter Monteverdi to take on the big boys. He also told Rover that the Range Rover needed 4 doors and an autobox, and custom-built them before Rover realized he was right...

Jay, you should do a segment on motorsport art, using some of the pieces you have in your garage (behind the McLaren, for example). It would be interesting to know where you got some of the paintings/posters/advertisements in your collection and maybe some information on the artists behind them.

I vaguely remember when I was a boy, I saw a magazine article about the Beatles. This was in the mid to late 1960's Paul McCartney was pictured behind the wheel of a car that was described only as an Italian car with an American engine. I never in my whole life as a car enthusiast could figure out what that car was. I'm sure this is it. I have never heard of this car. Mystery solved. Thanks Jay!

A car actually worthy of the 440. You'll notice the front indicators are mounted under the bumper. They are supposed to be set into the extreme ends of the grille opening, you can see the blanking panels in some shots. This car was built after the first slew of 'safety' regulations starting in 1968. If you look at a European model you'll see them the way they should be. I had to fix the front end if one of my British cars, it took a bit of work to de-uglify it. The 'safety' legislation had nothing to do with safety, the insurance companies didn't like paying out for fender benders.

The worst thing about Monteverdis, De Tomaso Mangustas & Jensen Interceptors were that so many of them had automatic transmissions. Those ones were bought by old guys who wanted to look cool but didn't know how to drive cool.

. From Car & Driver magazine (1969 ish). Peter Montiverti was being criticized for the amount of room the air conditioner occupied in the console of his new 375L. "All other european manufactures can keep theirs out of site, why can you" was the essence of out rude question.(from the Car & Driver journalist). He smiled and nodded and said though his interpeter "It's true you can't see the others, but you can't feel them either". Good answer from a true car guy...

Monteverdi had a whole range of body styles and everything was powered with the Chrysler Hemi, I think. The coolest car was the Hai ("Shark") and maybe the dopiest was the 375/4 sedan, which looked kind of like a dachshund. Until Monteverdi started building 4x4s (using International Harvester bases!) the company produced minute quantities of cars, often no more than a dozen in a year. Jay's car looks great!
@cindys1819

I remember when the automotive press and the euro collectors began quietly throwing rocks at the 375. Then, Peter became a considerable Swiss national pride figure and like a flash the auto press and those who were sneering abruptly just shut up. But to his credit, Peter adopted a posture of "oh you don't like my 440 based car? Well, how do you like my HEMI mid engine (semi) sharp flat car!!!" The Hai caused a riot in a lot of car circles when it came out with it's huge malicious looking hump between and in back of the driver and passenger seats. Great memories.

I just cast a set of end caps for the "Chicken Bar" or door pulls ( Upholstered Above door grab handles) for one of these rare cars. I could not see them in this video. I really do not even know if they are on the door or above the windows--as I sublet them for a shop for HIS customer's car. All I had was the original "Chrome Plated Plastic" covers that were severely deteriorated, yet enhanced to use as a mold model. Now we made them from silver bearing tin alloy. They polished out so bright, my customer is not having them chrome plated! If you need a set, ask around to find ODD Parts Fabrication.

It would be nice if Jay did a longer video with this car, much like he did with his 1931 Duesenberg chassis car, since likely didn't have the level of production crew as he did before though would be nice to see a redo of this video. This one was in an episode he did on CNBC, "Handmade", but didn't really go into very much as well since it was the car he was driving to meet his next guest. There's a lot more story to tell with this unusual car which hopefully can get a longer video with more in depth to it. Perhaps why that car isn't worth more, if you can find values of it on Hagerty, could be because its not an easily recognized car or well known brand for people to know about since it was a rather short lived company.
