8:07 Can you even fathom a car company creating a supercar and even hinting that it would be hard to drive nowadays? Everything has gotten simpler enabling the driver to be dumber: auto clutch on rev-matching, paddle shifts with dual auto clutches, etc. Over-simplification and the lack of driver intuition due to the computerization of vehicles ruins and makes every Jimmy Olsen a Superman. Kinda like all the big money folks that pay to scale Everest while eating by candlelight with chefs preparing their 5 star dinners on the way up.

Pepperoni Unicorn actually the truth is even more unfathomable! Because Lamborghini didn't have a test track, he went to the local police, and asked the chief of police if he would kindly stop giving tickets to Balboni, because he was tired of paying the fine. The police chief said, well either Drive slower, or get a licence to drive fast (as a joke). Lamborghini had an idea then, and went to the government and pleaded his case, stating that Lamborghini was a world status symbol, and making Italy look good. And he needed somewhere to make the car drive more sporty, making more exports possible. Three weeks later Balboni obtained a special licence.

Safer was the perfect guy to do this story because he was a big time car fanatic, he owned a Ferrari 308 and while stationed in London in the 60’s bought a Rolls Royce with his winnings at various poker games with other correspondents

I thought I was the only one. I wish I had Balboni's job. I read in Autocar how he got the job by accident or on recommendation off a priest can not remember.

No power anything, eyes on the road, both hands on the wheel. And no going to school before some dealer tech will unlock the speed limiter. I once caught a 8 mile 5 minute ( we caught a red light) ride in one courtesy of the local dealer himself. Forever grateful for that. 40 years ago.

I love the ways of the Italian lives, the way they dress, the best player in the flashy world.

My parents recorded this segment on a vhs when it first aired. My brother and I completely wore that thing out watching it over and over.

Back in 1995, I was at a stoplight in Dearborn, MI and across the intersection was Davis, whose image I had been seeing for years. When the light changed we passed each other and he smiled and waved. He was obviously amused by the fact I was driving my Z28 Camaro convertible, the top was dropped, it was 20 degrees and snowing. I was really happy to make that moment of his day.

David E. Davis was the godfather of American automotive journalism. If his face looks a bit asymmetrical, it’s because the left side of it was worn off when he flipped his MG in a 1950s sports car race. Davis died a few years ago, aged 80. It would seem he kept his uncanny sense of timing to the very end. Even though Lamborghini are planning for electric cars in their future, expect them to share their lineage with their corporate owner, Audi. That fighting bull beside the brand name, with the loss of its magnificent 12 cylinder engine, will turn into a steer.

Yet no interview with Ferruccio himself. That would have been icing on the cake.

You used to be able to be a dual clutch gearbox? Or are you mixing up dual clutch with double clutching

These cars are pure icons of cool. I still love them. I had several little metal models of the Countach and still have them. They are legends and now sell for more than $300,000.

The quote about remembering where you were the first time you saw one is right, at least for me. It was 1981. I was 13 years old. In a movie theater watching the first Cannonball Run movie. The first scene in the movie is a black Lamborghini with two spoilers. The way it looked. The sound of the engine. Even the music in the background. I was in love. Still am to this day.
