As an Argentinian I admit Uruguay is much better than us (so many Spanish speakers think we speak the same "castellano" and we do indeed but we have our differences as well ;-) ) They know how to deal with tourism. Safe country, well organised, efficient and punctual services, clean. Uruguayan people are warm and good mannered. They are known as the Switzerland from South America for all these positive aspects but specially for their safe banks.

Thank You for your video. My wife and I first visited Uruguay in 2009 and after years of research, we were looking for the perfect place to retire, we had just moved back to Canada we had been living in New Zealand for 15 years and had thought we had found it and more in NZ. We are both from British Columbia and the lower mainland. I had formally been a flight attendant with CP Air for 16 years moving to NZ in 1995. New Zealand was and is a fantastic country and exceeded all expectations but, never felt like home. Visiting UY 2 months at a time every year, January and February in 2012 we had just purchased a small farm and had a near-fatal car accident, we spent 15 weeks in British Hospital getting well. Recovery took several years and we had sold the property we purchased along the way. Now it is time to finish what we started in 2012. Completing some updates and renovations to our rural log home in the mountains this fall and winter, then in the spring of 2022 list our property for sale and fingers crossed to return to UY and work on our Spanish

We are very proud of our country but we are mostly humble and low profile. Perhaps the best definition of Uruguayan approach to life is the slogan of our soccer national team: “más que nadie, menos que ninguno, distintos a todos” (more than anyone less than nobody, different to all). All honest people are welcome to Uruguay 🇺🇾

It's difficult to translate that slogan properly. To say "More than anyone" es decir "Mas que cualquiera". Seria mas preciso decir "No more than anyone" o "More than no one" / "More than nobody". De todos modos ellos te entienderon el sentimiento.

It’s and merchandisers have searched the world for the best tasting organic grass-fed beef and found it in the South American country of Uruguay. The cattle are raised on small family ranches by gauchos using traditional methods of pasture-based farming. Uruguay has both endless green pastures and an extremely temperate climate; there is no snow, grass is present all year long. This means cattle are never fed on straw or hay in the winter months, which tends to degrade taste.

@@TheNearAndAway Actually Uruguay are doing a great job with red wines, with wineries from east to west and south to north of the country! Bodega Bouza, Bodega Stagnari, Bodega Garzon, Bodega Bertolini & Broglio, Bodega Juanico and others produce great red wines, not only Tannats, also Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenere and blends of them. About the meat, mostly of his best meat are exported to China, UE, US, and the few "exportation level" meat you can find in Uruguay are expensive compared with Argentina (maybe no expensive for tourist come with a good budget). Another great food in Uruguay I really recommend to the tourist come here are the milk derivatives, specially the cheeses are greats! Also the could cuts are fantastic, like mortadella (try mortadela de bocha Otonnello with pistacho), salami, hams.. I think fishes and sea food are also interesting in Uruguay, but Uruguayan wineries need to pay more attention to their white and second fermentation wines to marriage and be at similar level of their sea food and cheeses.

Since hopefully you will come back, Villa Serrana is definitely a good recommendation for the future, I think you'll really like it. José Ignacio is very nice for people who can afford it, particularly in summer, when it tends to get quite crowded. Casapueblo's on the way, so that's a stop you want to make, and if you go to José Ignacio you just have to go to Punta del Este because you're just next to it. It's a pretty city, very popular, but not my cup of tea exactly. The beach is really nice there, though. There's a round bridge in Garzón, not far from there, which I have actually never been to, but it's very nice from what I know. Punta del Diablo, in Rocha, is lovely, but a lot more... rustic, as are the surrounding beaches, and there's a national park with pretty beaches and an old fortress in it like twenty minutes away. I suggest you visit off-season (October/November or March/April). There's actually a bunch of nice places, but those are a few favourites. The weather can be kind of crummy even in summer, and it's really quite unpredictable, so that's something to keep in mind. Anyway... Glad you liked it here.
