Hi David. Thank you so much good information. Last year I let my perennials go to seed for the birds. But garden did get a bit wild with so many seedlings. So I plan on pruning and mulching etc next month. I saw that now your pruning was rather light. I think you said many my 1/2. When pruning fall do you go down to just above ground on salvias and other perennials?

How hard should we prune lavenders? Can I cut into areas that have brown dieback or is this considered “old wood”? My Provence lavenders have always been sort of weak (coastal climate, too much fog), so I’m afraid they won’t respond well to hard pruning.
