A great breakdown of the pieces and parts! One thing I'd like to add numbers wise is that by taking that loan for $112,000 @ 7.69% over 75 months, you are paying almost $30,000 in interest. Also, a term that long(75/mo) in most cases will curse the borrower with negative equity. With a Porsche you don't have much to worry about, but a loan that long on a 'regular' car with average depreciation will almost always have the borrower upside down. Enjoy your T. It's beautiful!

Main issue is you haven’t factored in down payment. If you put 20% down it’s highly UNLIKELY you will ever be upside down on any regular car with average depreciation. Luxury cars are the exception to this actually outside of a handful of models or very rare specs. 30K in interest over 6 years, also isn’t a lot at all and will mean nothing to most people (with the income to afford this car) when it comes to retirement.

@@Mac-pluto Not so sure about that. The average car is worth ~40% after 3 or so years. The problem are these insane loan terms. That's where time is your enemy with interest and the residual value of the car. To your point, it depends on the car for sure.

@@user-mx8py3yv8r on a 25K car with 5K + taxes & tag down, financing 20K @ 6% for 72 months you are looking at owing ~11K after 3 years.. even at 50% depreciation, you’re still not upside down and it’s likely not going to depreciate much more after that. There is a reason 20% is the general rule of thumb for down payment.

A credit union MAY have given you a better interest rate at least mine would have in MY state. My credit union just sent me an offer of 4.9% (simple interest) on a 2023 911Turbo and the SAME rate on a 2022 911 Turbo. I LOVE the credit unions because MOST of the time their interest rates on cars are better than the average bank and they give you simple interest NOT the rule of 72 formula. Also, MOST financial experts agree that a 72 month or longer car loan is NOT an ideal choice. They recommend borrowers take out a shorter loan of 60 months or less. I'm sure you've did what's best for you and plan to pay it off BEFORE the time it's currently financed so most of what I've just typed probably won't apply to you. Beautiful car. There are different Credit Scores...General credit scores are the ones you can usually look up on your own. Car loans usually use a credit score that has different factors used to calculate it and is usually higher.

I like to figure out what I want to do with my cash before I pay stuff off. Bought my new 911 two months ago. Black convertible with bordeaux roof and bordeaux interior. The pride in buying it came for me from paying cash for it. I was offered financing at 4% interest rate (in euro) but I have seen too many people finance a lifestyle to then lose it all when a liquidity crunch hits. Nothing wrong with financing, everyone has a different risk tolerance.

I think a lot of us finance out of convenience as opposed to necessity. I think being able to buy a car like this cash is an awesome accomplishment. For me I aspire to make money with money so I like to finance first and payoff within 6 to 12 months as I evaluate opportunities to leverage the cash.

I got back into stock/bond investing now but am talking with my wife about buying a few properties for us to AirBnB. I drive a 2023 S5 that I've done a tune to and a few minor physical modifications. I think you have to trade the car in for the tax credit. At least that’s the only way I’ve heard of it being done. Let me know what you find out on that. Some dealers will let you pay taxes yourself. Others will do it in the deal.

Alright so I did some math and before down payment you are gonna end paying 142,302 on that car. Add in the 60k and you will have paid $202,302. Car is worth 166k, so all in you spent almost an extra 40k financing it. Factor in the invoice price on this vehicle being at around 125k for the dealer, that's a 75K profit on that car alone. I wanted to buy a Panamera, but im opting to pay cash and only when its 10% of what I have in the bank. Until then I wont buy it. Financing gets you the car faster, but buying cash save you more. Especially if you buy pre owned, in order to not take a big hit on depreciations when buying new.
