The T makes sense, even with PDK because it’s still faster than a manual. Also, it comes standard with PASM, Electronic Slip Diff, able to option RAS, and Sport Chrono. You have to option those on an S and can’t get RAS on a base. I personally think it’s the sweet spot, especially if you really love driving.

I love the fact that there is a market for cars that are not "max spec", i.e., it need not have 7,000 HP in order to be fun. This car, to me, is analogous to the Toyota GR86 (albeit written much larger!). It is plenty fast enough, looks spectacular, and most of all: it puts a smile on your face. Which is exactly what a sports car is supposed to do.

Good coverage. This is a well engineered car, it reminds me a lot of older 1970’s-1990’s 911 cars, analog (love the manual Trans). If more power is required, a tune is a no brainer.

Is stage one tune is probably fine. I’d argue. It’s not not necessary though.

I totally agree with your take on tuning . I drive a base model g80 m3. I won’t tune it. These engineers are pretty good at what they do. Plus you can only use so much power on the road. Give me a manual and a little bit of power and I’m a happy camper . Cool vid. I honestly didn’t even know about the “T”.
@diegodivers5 ай бұрын
I drive a manual T. It is truly a great drivers car. Little bit big and wide, like all 992s. Honestly, these weight reduction stuff is a kind of marketing gimmick. But it maybe contributes to the emotions. Things like light weight glass and light weight batteries are not practical in a daily or weekend driver and expensive to replace. You do not feel 35kg in modern 1500kg sports car anyway. The T is road not track oriented. It really feels like classic Porsche with more of that analogue feeling. I think those is the true sense and the big achievement of this model. I would skip RAS for that reason. But if you like it, go for it. And if you are after performance you should definitely go for PDK or a stronger model.
@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
For sure a road focused car. However you can track this and enjoy. It’s just never going to be a GT3
@palefaced14 ай бұрын
I've had other 911's with the manual, and I still say PDK is the way to go. It's just a better transmission. And you can focus on the road or track and go even faster. Also 18 way seats are awful either go 4 way or full buckets.
@PointShiftDrive4 ай бұрын
Couple of weekends ago I was at the track with another Porsche enthusiast. He was in a turbo S. By the end of the day, do you know what he said to me? I love my PDK but I wish it was more involving like your manual. I think that’s the point. Anyone can have a preference whether it stick shift or PDK but at the end of the day, nothing is more involving than a manual.
@amac848722 күн бұрын
I agree. I love manuals, but the PDK is just SO good. With the cars being turbo, there is absolutely NO drop in boost pressure inbetween shifts, giving you the feeling of consistent power with no interruption. This adds a ton more speed and feel of performance and precision

I drove my buddy's last month w/ a 6m. It put a huge smile on my face, cannot deny it. I thought it had plenty of power on the street, even with the base engine pressing me a few inches into the seat back and instantly shattering the speed limit. My first positive impressions were about refinement: the impossibly light clutch, impossibly smooth gear changes, one toe braking, and precise steering (for electric). I'd say for the negative, it's a big ass car (literally) so it takes up a lot of width on the road so picking lines is not as fun. Also I observed firsthand the cars and coffee score on this car is very low because someone with that colorful 992 GT3 is going to pull up next to you and completely steal your thunder. Still I would be very happy with a 6m version as a DD no problem.
@PointShiftDrive18 күн бұрын
I would agree with pretty much everything you said. As far as the cars and coffee credit this isn’t the car to wow people with. People who know, know. It’s a driver‘s car that you can live with every single day. I think it’s pretty clear now that a GT3 is a difficult daily driver proposition. An amazing car nonetheless, but if it’s only coming out for cars and coffee, who really cares?

“Upset the balance of the car” Agree to disagree… perfect car to tune Porsche only tuned it this way to not step on toes of S or GTS. Tune is 2500, if you can afford the T you can afford 2500.
@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
I think a stage one tune for the street is no big deal. But if you would’ve taken it to a track, then you start to see if you’ve created some weaknesses primarily in the brakes. Don’t believe me check it out for yourself and get back to me.
@nebeachbum5 ай бұрын
Plenty of track over here; well aware. You can do a stage one tune on this car and change nothing else. Even stage 2 tune your not going to change out rotors and pads. If you tracking your changing out pads and rotors anyways. Stage 2 you’re doing filters on this car and thats it. Once again the car is 140-160k anyone buying this car can afford that.

I also have a 2024 T in Ice Grey - love the car but I do think it could use more power. The great thing is these cars are built to handle lots of power from a tune without issue or additional upgraded needed - engine internals are the same for the GTS model and if you are willing to swap the turbos you are at 600hp. The chassis would not be upset at all going to Carrera S power level with the same exact suspension as Carrera S...
@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
I agree! These cars can “handle” lots more power and easily. But the once you add significant more power, the brakes start to show their weakness. So the balance is what gets affected. From the factory the T is pretty happy. But yes, you can tune it and get more if you want. But a track day would be where you notice the unbalance more than anywhere else. Normal everyday driving, no real difference

@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
Both great cars. And honestly kind of similar to drive. However the GTS always feels like there is more under your right foot. And you almost never use it. With the T it’s not the case. Also maybe it’s because the T trim is sold in lower numbers but it somehow feels a bit more rare. I Guess I’d say the GTS is a touring car where the T is a where you live car. Either choice is A+! But the T costs so much less, which I really appreciate

@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with PDK. But there are better models suited to PDK than the T. Otherwise why would the T trim be any different than an S? Why would Porsche bother to do any light weighting if the T is basically a base carrera? The PDK adds back the majority of the weight taken out by other elements. However it’s still relatively light overall even with PDK. No one is disputing that.

@@curtdragonyou might be missing the point of the T. No one is saying manual is faster. It’s about driving pleasure and engagement. If you want a PDK, get one. If you want a manual, get one. It’s not about being fastest. Because if that is the exercise, you get a turbo S.

I’m glad you brought up the Z06. I’m sure I’m not the only one crossshoping these two. Yes one is clearly faster and yes one has a better community, but the Z is the last NA high revving V8 and this T may be the last manual 911 without hybrid. Both will be keepers either way.

I’m soooo very happy I decided to spec out a 2023 Carrera….and not do the “T” route. For those old enough, this is tantamount to ordering a Roadrunner back in the day of the mighty Plymouth GTX. If you want a less-expensive Porsche to track, the “T” is your huckleberry. ( it really should be…it boasts striping for weight saving..!? ) If you’re serious about a “road-trip or 3, op for the extended range tank, (23 vs 16 gal) carefully chose your seat and pour yourself into a Carrera. ( listen to owners, not posers nor 1 day wonder “key shakers” for opinions and advise. )

Keep in mind the base Carrera does not offer manual gearbox, or limited slip differential. But you can option it with much more comfortable spec. And in real life, that’s probably more important.
@winkstorm5 ай бұрын
I like the T but calling it lightweight is gimmicky. The difference between a regular base Carrera and the T is around 30 lbs. That’s less than 1% difference. If I fuel up 4 gallons of gasoline (roughly 30 lbs) less to a Carrera, can I call it lightweight equivalent? Will be there a noticeable performance difference? Some of you reviewers are like Porsche programmed robots. i.e. 9000 rpm!!! Like some miracle. My motorcycle does 14,000 rpm. So what.
@PointShiftDrive5 ай бұрын
I don’t disagree with you that the difference in weight is really not that much between the T and other trims. However, Porsche’s marketing department wants you to believe otherwise. My perspective is that this is the best value in the lineup, regardless of weight. Because it’s the lowest cost manual that you can get. And if you are a drive enthusiast that can afford this price point. You have to put this on your list of cars to evaluate. So your point about lightweight is not really my point. My point is this is a great car that is being offered at a value and we should have more options like this in the industry. I apologize if that point gets lost in the video. That’s on me. Thanks for watching 🙏

Light came at the expense of light weight glass and more interior noise is not worth it. Couldn't understand why so obsessed with lightness since 911 is not that heavy anyway. Car sturdiness is much more desirable. Bought a 2023 992.1 c2s. Solid and not heavy. Love it. Will never buy a T.

If you don’t drive in on a mountain road with lots of runway, you won’t ever understand that lighter is better. So this isn’t for everyone.
