I agree on the challenge rating being the highlight of Pathfinder 2E. It's my preferred version of D&D for combat-heavy games.

I have been playing RPG's since D&D was just 3 pamphlets. Do the math. I hadn't played for a few years. then took up running Pathfinder first edition. I don't use experience, I tell my players when they receive a new level. I do not worry about encounter levels as I can buff or debuff encounters on the fly, ever see the villain drop his magic weapon? How about a dragon hiccup just when they are about to use their breath weapon? reinforcements can come in, etc. My players always go first then the encounter npc's as the players are the main characters of the story and should be treated as such. Accidently give PC's an OP item? There is always a high level rogue out there, a spell on the item that teleports it back to it's previous owner- now dead, etc. Your PC's find ways to bend the rules to the breaking point? Trust me there are NPC's who did it first.
