I am looking at Jake right now & I am going to say this while just [FORGETTING ABOUT HIS NUMBERS] for a second, Jake Evans is a [STANDOUT] on the ice no matter what his past numbers show us. I am thinking that Jake has just bloomed this year & he will continue on this rapid pace through the rest of the year & years to come unless a big injury hits him? Evans was always showing good potential but this year he has hit his stride & it's almost as if he has been a [LATE BLOOMER] but not that he was not a good player previously but he has figured this game out & is showing us what great players are all about. I realize that the future is the [unknown] but it sure looks like he has great promise for these next 6 years or so & whoever gets his services will be so much better if he can continue on his pace? If anyone pays a first rounder pick for him & his play continues, they will not regret paying that for this player & if I were a GM, I'd take the gamble to get his services especially if I were a team in the mix for a few years to be a potential playoff team.
@bobmatley16 күн бұрын
He is likely going to cost near $4 million a year. It would cost about $20 million for 5 years is probably what his agent would ask for. We have a serious issue though since if he is traded we likely also are going to be done with Dvorak after this. That means we are left with Suzuki and Dach for centers with Newhook being moved to center. This means both Beck and Kapanen would have to be brought in. Other thing is Demidov can play center so that is something to think about for next season. I believe we will be good in 3 to 4 years when Hage comes along Beck is going to be the type of player that is huge in playoff runs as he seems to score the important goals on a regular basis he showed it last season when he won playoff MVP scoring two goals in the final game. I think Dach will be fine as long as he doesn't suffer another long term injury. He missed a lot of time I think he is still not there mentally he will be much better next year. He should also start to look better in a month or two.

I'm torn on whether trading Evans is the best plan. A 6'4 C coming back is appealing but the "inconsistent" label scares me at this point. If you look at our Center depth, we're lacking and it's a position that we need to improve at. That said, if this is the deal that KH and JG decide to go with, I'll trust their judgement. Trades with Colorado have not worked out all that well for MTL. Lehkonen and Newhook trades are not looking stellar. We'll see what happens but I hope any return for Evans, if traded, ends up as a long term win for the Habs.
@toddlauretteHabsforlife16 күн бұрын
Habs need to keep Evans, he's really good on the PK, he puts 125% in EVERY shift, every practice. I dont think the timing is off, they will regret trading him, should they do so. They need more players like Evans. Mitch is TOTALLY wrong on Evans, he's worth $4M a season easily, and i think we would get a first round pick for him, but dont want to find out. He isn't just having a good season this year, he always plays hard, and he is overlooked. I like Evans more then Lekhonen.

This leaves us with Suzuki.... That's all... if we trade Evans. If the Evans camp is asking for 5 years, I get your point. But we are at least 3 years away from a center line good enough that there isn't a place for Evans. Our kids need to progress. If we head into the next season with only one centre eith NHL experience, we will regress. I got to say, I don't agree with the notion that Evans is not a fit. @rich.jerkov15 күн бұрын
But you aren't selling high, you're trading high. Big difference. When selling, what you acquire doesn't wind up being worthless, which is actually more likely than not when trading for a 2nd round pick. The player rumoured coming back has done nothing to suggest he would go higher in a re-draft. He's skating is sub-par and offensive potential limited. This guy projects to be bottom 6, if he makes it at all. We don't even have 4 true centermen in the Habs lineup. We know Dvorak is gone after the season, that brings us down to two. Trading away yet another centerman, one of only two playing very well is crazy. We're at the stage we must improve for the development of our young players. Going into next season with one centermen with NHL experience all but guarantees we regress. One injury away from having no centermen at all.
@panathenaea15 күн бұрын
@ don’t disagree with you. It all depends on return. Who they get or what they get, whether they plan on keeping what they get in return or to package either something else to get something even better. I’m sure there are steps ahead that we scenes we aren’t aware of. The timing aspect is true though. Spending too much on your bottom 6 especially on a guy whose age doesn’t fit the rebuild schedule feels like….the problem we have now. You are so right. The C problem is concerning. not a tough call. Either offer $3M on a 4yr deal or else trade. He wasnt given an extension at the beginning of the season. It seems more valuable to sell high on a pending UFA. Ship him off at the deadline and create room for players like Beck and Hage that will likely push the middle 6 centre positions when they are in their contention years. If we're looking at a 3C that has a career avg of 31 point per 82 games played over his career....I dont see Beck having too much issue matching but if he does fall flat Hage may be his successor. 2C is my biggest concern and Evans is bottom 6 NOT middle 6. BUT post him in middle 6 assignments(or TOI) to allow him to advertise his abilities. Get a bidding war for the vet and take the trade. Some of us fans fall in love with players but Evans is good right now, at 30+ not so much. Let Hughes rebrand these Canadiens and not hold on to aging players from previous management who couldnt use the draft to garner top 6 candidates. Rebuilds take time but Evans is probably the easiest to market. Keep the growth through the draft, they get Demidov next year and probably test out Becks depth role with the Habs and maybe Hage the year after. This Sapovaliv kid looks like a huge lotto ticket as his AHL numbers arent good. Beck is producing 21 pts in 28 games to Sapovalivs 11 pts in 26 games(both in rookie seasons).

We would need a 1st round pick plus their best prospect if they want Evans. Always sell high if you don’t want to hold on to him. Beck is NHL ready I think. Regarding Jake Evans, I don't agree with M.Gallo, I think the team may be able to get a first round pick for a few reason, (sorry, may this may be a bit long): 1) I don’t think comparing the return players got last year is comparable to what they can get this year. Last year, Lindholm and Monahan were both available. This year, at C, there is possibly Brock Nelson, a better C but paid $6 million. After that, its Mikael Granlund, paid $4 million. Considering those factors, Jake Evans may be the most desirable C on the market, especially that he is a right-handed C that can score some goals and win faceoffs. Let’s not forget that contending teams are generally tight against the cap. 2) He is a good player that teams don’t have to “make place for”. Because he plays a simple game, taylor-made for the playoffs, in a support role, nobody on the team that he will be trade for, will dramatically have to change their role on the team to accommodate him. 3) Another factor is that the draft is not looking to be very deep this year, especially after the first 10 to 15 picks. I think teams are going to be a lot more willing to trade their first-round picks, especially since it won’t be in the top 20. 4) This is pretty standard but there is always one team that will overpay for a player that they think can be difference maker and against, a good two-way Right-handed Center, in the playoffs, is a very desirable asset. 5) I am not sure Lehkonen was seen as a better player when he was traded. He was seen as a good support player, same as Evans. Habs getting a player who was a first round pick and a 2nd round pick may be a better return than just a first round on a lackluster draft.

Sadly I feel habs fans have become Leafs fans unable to decipher good from bad and way too often the pro bias that every player is really good or over rated. Jake Evans is nota very good player he wouldn't have anymore impact in Laval than in MTL he does not have ANY tools that are a positive he is just below average at everything. The only way I see any return for any of the players MTL is trying to trade is if Hughes finds another dumb manager that doesn't actually watch them play and just reads into articles or what others are saying.I have still yet to see any interviews of Mitchkov to see if any of the rumors were true "I doubt it" and funny how our management information said he would not come over for a long time and is already over here having an impact lol. IMO like I said unless a real dumb manager we should get nothing for any of our castoffs maybe a player for player switch or a 4th round pick nothing of any meaning.IMO waivers are not a good option becuase then if nobody picks them up they go down to Laval and make that team worse.

It's weird that you guys refer to Jake as a 4C when he's literally the second best centre we have in the organization. Dvo is worse and will be gone this summer and Beck and Hage are 2-3 years away. In the meanwhile, who is playing 2C, Dach? I really hope not because I'm not even convinced he's a regular NHLer forget a 2C.

I believe we speak in the context of Evans on a deep team. On this years team he’s been the most consistent player outside of Suzuki. He’s an example to follow and I believe whether you’re on team don’t overpay or team sign Evans, almost everyone is a fan of the guy. What’s interesting to me is what would he take from the Habs as a 28 year old pending UFA and is Montreal even interested in a long term deal while still rebuilding and seasons away from maybe contending. Fascinating.

@@shaunstarrEvans is having a career season but will be 29 yrs old on his new contract which might possibly be the last one of his career...He will then take no discount price so Montreal in order to resign him will likely has to offer: 5 to 6 yrs at 3.5 to 4 mils/year. If he takes anything less...he should fire his agent. He is still a 4th line center on a good team and they have Hage and Beck in their pipeline !!!

I'd trade Evans before he goes to free agency. He is tight with the core guys but let's be real, he's going to sign with the highest bidder this summer. Beck continues to crush it this year. He has elite responsibility off the puck but has more offensive upside at only 18yo in the AHL. It is pretty clear he will be better than Evans. You sold me on the Dach replacement as I think he needs to be fired into the Sun.

@rich.jerkov16 күн бұрын
Guys, let's keep some perspective here. Slaf is not playing as well as last year. However, his point per game streched to 82 games is 50 points, which is what he had last year. People are just disappointed he's not performing at the 0.8 pts per game he was in the 2nd half of last season. And I also get he's not doing as well in the eye test. Good players development is very rarely linear. In fact the one thing most young players struggle with the most is consistency. Remember he's only 20 years old. I'm fairly confident when he floats out there he gets told by his coaches.

I don’t see Habs bringing back both DVO and Evans but they need to keep one. My armchair GM move Keep Evans re-sign him @ 3-3.5m x 3-5 years if he wants 4million I would still do it for 3 years he grew up with this team and I feel like he wants to stay here. He is the best Shorthanded player on team, is faster than DVO, his faceoffs are great. You can slot him up and down your line up. Already have Hage, Demidov as possible top 6 C if Dach doesn’t pan out this Vegas trade proposal does nothing for me. I would trade both DVO & Armia If they are out of wildcard spot, if they are chasing down a wildcard spot perhaps you keep them both as rentals that cost you nothing or at least keep one around as veteran presence DVO - Andy - Gally has played well but I would not re-sign DVO, I can see Beck in bottom 6C, Evans could slot in at C on that line and it would hurt them. One player that I would move regardless of where Habs are at trade deadline is Matheson …. he is unwatchable both on Def and on Offense Bring back a PWF, draft picks or young RD Maybe Matheson to Van for Joshua or to St Louis for a Holloway or Neighbours
