Drivelapse video touring several freeways in the Greater Montreal Region, starting on the South Shore crossing the Mercier Bridge to A-20, passing through the Turcot Interchange and following the Decarie Expressway to the Metropolitan Expressway. The video follows the Metropolitan Expressway westerly to A-13 and heads north. We then follow A-440 to A-25 back to the South Shore, crossing the new Champlain Bridge and heading into Downtown (Centre-Ville) via the Bonaventure Expressway.

It makes me feel like that those Autoroutes in Quebec are generally narrower than the expressways in Ontario and Alberta.

That plate of the car at the very end is so wholesome. Thanks for that tour, showing almost all the major interchanges, some complex ones, and the Honoré-Mercier bridge. The Saint-Pierre interchange was getting its own refection at the same time of the Turcot one, but it's not as "important" I'd say as the bridges are still there.

Indeed, the license plate there was very wholesome... Just for context for those who don't know French: "J't'aime" - I love you Lots of interchanges in the Montreal area due for major work soon, if not already underway. A40, the Transcanadienne, has ongoing work right now, while work is done to build the elevated section of the REM for the branch that heads towards both PET Airport, and the terminus at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. The elevated section of the A40 between the two sections of A15 is also due for a complete rebuild. It'll be interesting to see how they go about doing this section, and to see how it'll affect my day-to-day life, as I live right around the corner from it. A10 in Brossard is still in the works as well. The REM runs in the middle of the 2 opposing directions of the Champlain Bridge, and is expected to run down the middle of A10, with the Panama station being in the median. The REM will then continue down the median, to some point before the interchange between A10, and A30, and terminate at what will be known as the Dix30 station, I think... As for other work, I believe that there's rehab work ongoing on A25, in the Lafontaine Tunnel.

Great time of the day to go for a ride. I think I did this loop going the other way (counter clockwise), vs your clockwise drive. The Turcot looks way way way better than the last time I saw it :-O

Beautiful light and definitely a great evening for a drive. Montreal’s autoroutes are pretty ghetto, but they have quite a bit of character, and definitely some nice stretches mixed in there. Excellent work as always.

Montreal sure have the most freeways amongst other Canadian cities, but the Quebec Autoroutes have a lot of congestion in Montreal which outclasses the 400-series highways linking Toronto (except the 401 is still the world's busiest highway).

Some great shots there AP. Very well timed drive into the centre of the city. Great work. EDIT: and what are the odds at the first stop light at the end, the plate of the car in front says JTAIME.

A20 Motorway Quebec becomes the 401 macdonald-cartier freeway Ontario border Mississauga Detroit Michigan A15 Motorway becomes Interstate 87 Adirondack Northway New York State Thruway and major Deegan Expressway At Champlain NY border crossing. Speaking of the Champlain Bridge what they are working on is actually Railway Tracks

Why did they get rid of the reversed lanes on A20 between 138 and the A-15?
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 3 жыл бұрын
I obviously wasn’t part of the design team or anything, but I’d wager the bridges at either end needed to be replaced and it was just cheaper not to replace the old wrong way segment
@liandlee222
@liandlee222 3 жыл бұрын
The reversed lanes were corrected as part of a massive reconstruction project, in order to make more efficient use of the abandoned industrial land in the corridor, which coincided with the end of the useful lifespan of the concrete used for the Turcot Interchange. The entire thing needed to be reconstructed. The MTQ simply took the opportunity to rectify the issue, along with rebuilding the highway in the area such that it wasn't reversed. Part of the land that was opened up as a result of this reconstruction is now a long stretch of parkland, with a bike path along the canal. there appear to be plans for development in the near future as well.

10:07 That car (5th Gen Hyundai Elantra) on the right lane switches to the middle lane in the tunnel, even though there are two parallel dividing lines between those lanes, so according to the driving laws, it's illegal.

Quebec has a lot of driving restrictions and safety. What's common is to pick a lane before the lanes split to prevent you from crossing the 2 lines.

Do you prefer the Quebec Autoroutes or the Ontario 400-series highways?
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 3 жыл бұрын
I like them both for what they are. I think the 400 series are better designed and they are faster higher standard roads. Quebec’s autoroutes are a bit more haphazard, but their network is also more dense than that of Ontario. I’d give the nod to Ontario, but I really enjoy driving through Montreal as well.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 Yeah, I like how the Quebec autoroutes (and all Quebec highways) are numbered based on a grid. However, many of the interchanges (aside from the Turcot interchange) are of really subpar design. Also the freeways in Montreal are all very narrow and few have more than 3 lanes in each direction.
