Vegas freeways are so clean and aesthetically pleasing. You either get a beautiful backdrop with the mountains and desert or the flashy lights and urbanization of the strip. Also on almost every freeway off ramp you also get overarching signs which is unique only to Vegas!

Used to love the drive from L.A. to Vegas and back in the late 70’s / early 80’s via I-15. Almost no traffic back then but the interstate was completed. On the way to LV you’d see the sky start to light up for 50 miles before arriving in the city. On the way back also at night you’d see an endless sea of tail lights curving through the mountains while maintaining speed the whole time. It was very surreal.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 You know the descent from Mountain Pass into the Nevada state line, on the Interstate 15 Freeway north? It is really pretty at night, and can be seen after the Nipton exit (aka Exit 286).

Why is the NW corridor of the beltway still under construction. It's taking forever it seems. Almost like construction has stopped? Does anyone know what the hold up is?

The Las Vegas Beltway aka the Bruce Woodbury Beltway is a 50.3 mi beltway that encircles around the southern, western and northern parts of the metro area forming a letter C which consists of I-215 NV for 11.1 mi from the southeast and CC 215 for the last 39.2 mi.

Notice that when I say CC 215, that stands for Clark County Route 215.

I rolled through Vegas in June 2020 during Covid and to date am quite bummed out that I missed out on the primary main attractions of that region: Red Rock Canyon (due to me favoring Zion around 3 hours away) and Hoover Dam (COMPLETELY shut down cos Covid WHILE THE CASINOS WERE WIDE THE **CK OPEN!!!). But on the flipside, the primary objectives of that trip were catching up with longtime outta town friends and wondering exactly what my grandparents favored so much about Phoenix in recent years (Scottsdale and Carefree were extremely nice). To which those in particular were successful. It’s sad that not only are said grandparents one foot into the grave to a degree, but the strong likelihood that I inadvertently but highly effectively burnt a reliable bridge with my own instability regarding said friendship. Ugh; that’s life, I guess… better reason to keep traveling while I can in case I eventually can’t one reason or another…

County road being a freeway. This one is a true oddity. Less surprising when we can see it has at least 1 part that isn't up to freeway standards.

It will probably become a state highway or an interstate once it's all completed.

Great video! Does people in Ontario just use the term "highway" as freeway? It is so weird because they called Ontario 400-highway series system rather than 400-freeway series.
@AsphaltPlanet13 жыл бұрын
yeah, in Ontario typically a freeway would just be called the highway. Freeways in Ontario are usually prefixed by "the xx", while a conventional two lane road would be called "highway xx".

Freeway is a traffic-light-free highway designation used in the U.S. Southwest i.e. Cali, Nevada, Arizona and Texas and most but not all of these are also Interstates. Interstate and highway are used everywhere in the U.S. but highway is any major road that is not an Interstate. Here in Florida we have Interstates (Federal), Turnpike (State Toll), Toll and Free ‘Expressways’, ‘US-# (Federal), FL-# (State) and County highways. The US-# like US-1 and Route 66, were part of the pre-interstate system and can be thousands of miles long but they have traffic lights.

I’ve been on interstate 15 to Utah but I started to wonder why doesn’t interstate 215 continue north to Salt Lake City Utah instead of looping back to interstate 15. Interstate 215 would likely intersect us highway 93 11 miles west of where I-15 intersects us 93 but I don’t think there’s any viable path for interstate 215 to cross into Utah 4 miles north of mesquite and the terrain is too rugged around Ivins Utah since interstate 215 would likely pass through ivins after entering Utah.

Given recent SUBSTANTIAL population gains, I’d personally recommend NDot putting St. George as the secondary control city on all the guide signage north of Vegas… hopefully the desert doesn’t completely run outta water, that’s all I can say…
