I dislike people trash talking young hockey players; I think it's terrible for the spirit of the sport. No matter how "bad" the NL or the KHL are, these kids (Reinbacher, Michkov) are playing in competitive pro adult leagues at 18-19, and doing well. That's more impressive to me and indicative of where a player is at than similarly aged players playing junior ― not that playing junior is bad either.

I don't think the draft pick was messed up reinbacher is what they needed and they see big potential in him. Now if It were me I would've took michkov at 5 instead but in the end I'm happy with it. Flyers got what they needed and so did the habs. Michkov didn't wanna play just anywhere he made that clear to alot of teams he wanted to go to Philly anyways.

I understand that we like to project, but draft picks only really show their true face between 4-8 years after the draft. Anything before that is purely opinion. i hope both are good but likely michkov will have a better points total as he is a forward after all. that being said i am not too hot on the habs adding another forward below 6' as good as he can be. Now was Reinbacher the best choice available no clue either we just have to wait and see

This phenomenon is not just on X, though. I'm a Flyers fan living in Quebec and I'm surrounded by rabid Habs fans. At work, I'm reminded on a daily basis that Michkov is playing in what they call a 'pee-wee' league. I love that trash talk, though. Each time, it gives me an occasion to talk about Montreal's 'stellar' track record at drafting in the first round in the past decade (or more!).

It's important to note that Kaprizov because of birthdays and how the U20 season is defined, was in his 2nd year post draft when he did that. I believe the cut off is turned 20 by end of December and Michkov is a December birthday so. It's not even apples to apples with the U20 thing.

Let me make one comment, to remind people how the draft works. Each team has a team of scouts, and they decide who to draft. Example one: Shane Wright, who was guaranteed to go first, was drafted fourth. So the teams of professional scouts for the three teams that "passed" on him chose not to add him to their teams. And he's not playing in the NHL right now. Example two: Michkov drafted 7th. Time will tell if the scouts on the first six teams who passed on him knew more than most.

I think there's something more to it then just a question of skill. Michkov certainly has skill but may also have another trait that the 6 previous teams before the 7th pick didn't like. Only time will tell.

This. Hughes has shown he's no idiot and the Habs have gone on the record that they highly value character while building this team. This has to tell you something about Michkov. Not saying Michkov won't be a star player - time will tell, but there was a reason why the Habs passed on him. We'll know in about 5 years whether it was the right move or not, but yeah, for now, Hughes gets the benefit of the doubt given what he has done so far.

I got a Question. If Michkov is on loan from the St Petersburg and playing well and producing like crazy for Sochi, why doesn’t St Petersburg call him back? I’m not too familiar with the league rules of the KHL… maybe they aren’t allowed too? Of note, I’m a Habs fan, and wanted the Habs to pick Michkov, but also understood the Reinbacher pick. So I’m fairly impartial, because I think if both Reinbacher and Michkov hit their ceilings, and if they are on a one on one battle, I think Reinbacher can match him step for step.

You can't unloan a player if there is no obvious reasons (like he sucks for example) for the team that loaned him to give him back. The league won't allow it. You can loan a player for the whole season only. And there is trade deadline exactly as in the NHL so Michkov can't get back for the playoffs after the regular is over.
