This is wonderful. Her coloratura was fantastic. I love her singing but also I love the person that she is. She traveled to many countries for the United Nations and was always trying to do what she could for peace in the world. Brava, Montse.

There is such a spiritual quality to her music. Those who discounted her coloratura erred in their judgement. That every note is beautifully shaped, flawless in pitch, is so full of feeling is like a benediction. I love her and while she may have been overshadowed by Callas, she remains first to me. While Callas may have offered fireworks, Montserrat was incomparable in her soaring pianissimo and this recital, her work with her accompanist is simply lovely. Words are not enough. This music is angelic. I look forward to hearing her sing again in Heaven.

Do you know she studied with Callas and that they became good friends; Callas told her to keep that secret to protect her career and avoid the bad comments. I've heard Montserrat telling this story at the radio (France Musique); she added:"Now, the time has passed, I think there is prescription, and I think I can speak about it".

It has been a year and somehow I missed your reply to my comment regarding Monserrat and her her friendship with Callas. i did not realize they were as close as they apparently were. Thank you for the insight. How privileged you are to havd heard her in such a way. Again, my apologies. and thank you for the insights. I am seventy five and never tire of hearing this treasure. Montserrat and her husband were invited to Callas' apartment after their show was cancelled due to strike of chorus or some other section of performers. When they visited with Callas, they talked away the evening. Callas gave her some advice. The 2 women thought very well of each other with mutual respect and admiration. It's all in Caballe's book, entitled Casta Diva.

@@terryhenson3350 Sorry but, in a french broadcast program (France Musique) dedicated to Montserrat and where she was present, she precisely relate that she met regularly Maria Callas during five years to take advices and work with her. She added that Maria told her not to speak about that openly because he could be bad for her image and her career; then Montsy added:" So I never spoke about those encounters but now, thirty years are gone; I think it's time for me to speak about it."

Hello, Bruno! Montserrat was a remarkable, wise woman. So gifted and yet humble and, I am told, approach able. I have read some of her comments about M. Callas, a formidable woman. Personally, I prefer this voice to Callas. For as long as she sang, she was glorious. In this piece when she goes high and is pianissimo, the control she has is simply remarkable. Not a single wrong breath, inappropriate trill. Her knowledge of music history and styles must have been encyclopedic. I adore her. Always will. Some of her notes bring tears to my eyes. And it must be said, how remarkable that her weight never affected her remarkable breath control. Do you happen to know who her teachers were?
