Wow I've always known he was rad but this piece opened my eyes. I am positively stunned by some of those big air shots. A monster. Plus he invented my favorite trick! Congrats Monty!

My first pro board was the Nolder South American totem pole graphics on a Schmitt Stix board, 1986! I still skate today

When I met Monty Nolder I was wearing a Consolidated Skateboards hoodie that read, * Wake Up and Come Out Fighting * . After introducing ourselves, he reads the words, and his face lights up with a big smile, then in his deaf guy vernacular says, "Fight? I like fight !". I just thought to myself, 'what a fuckin' badass' .

Had the privilege to actually skate with Monty a few times in Gainesville, Florida. Good dude, as i was only like 14 at the time and was kind of starstruck. Hes a really good, down to earth dude. Congratulations to him

1:02 My Ramp!! I got that Ramp after the contest at Stone Mountain, they (contest organizers/NSA) were going to trash it afterwards (WHY would you do that??) so I took it off their hands. Monty is a huge influence, glad I got to ride with him as much as I did,he DESERVES this

I always wondered what happened to that ramp after the contest.

how in hell could i forget it's not just a "backside smith". Nolder invented that one, at least first dude to do it that anyone really can't argue. his mini-totem was one of my favorite decks, back then. i remember my ollies got 6" higher with that board. no lie!

You better call it a Monty grind and not a back smith 🔥🔥

Watch the Schmitt Stix video Let's Go Skate... Monty's Christ Air and flips his board in his hand then back into the ramp - that scene is embedded in my mind and will be one of the last I will think of on my final day....

If you've ever had to fight a deaf dude, you know not to eff with Monty Nolder.

someone who understands what most never will never understand. Its about style and flow. like milk from a nipple. It must flow. Monty has always been my top dog my fav rider. Like the big finger flipper said , his back side smiths were fkn sick, especially at Del Mar. I give the Hall of fame two middle fingers for not opting him in on style alone. skateboarding may need its own style hall of fame. because its not about fame its about style suckers.....

Tony hawk is not the best ever but why does he get so much attention? Just wondering.

What a kook thing to ask and very insulting to every skater in general when you have a computer and Google right on it..do you even skate? If you don't, disregard my kook comment

Politics. Kind of like saying tiger woods was better than Ben hogan in golf. To me hawk is top 10 but not #1. My top 10. Monty nolder, Neil blender, Lee Ralph, Jeff Phillips, Lance mountain, Tony alva,Jay Smith, hosoi, Mark gonzales and ron allen

Progression, inventing tons of tricks many nbd, longevity, just to name few. Monte ruled it, sick style and a bagful of tricks that some vert skaters still can't pull off with his style and power. Ripper, hands down.

My Schmitt Stix Monty Nolder is over 35 years old. Still rides very well.
