@@philclarke313 nobody was watching the old format when it got phased out unfortunately. Also the BBC doesn't make programs for niche audiences anymore

I love re watching these old car show videos. I watched most of them when I was a kid. I watched Top gear from day 1 and while I like both formats, the current shows are getting stale , I can’t even remember the last one I saw. I wish it would also go back to the original format .

He's cool, and I think there was a pose named after him, "Wollarding" I think where you rest one foot on the front bumper of the car you're reviewing.

This programme used to go out Sunday afternoons to complement the motor show. Remember there was no other car programmes, and no media at all apart from magazines. Different times

5:37 hilarious! Oh look the Vauxhall maintains a straight line as one wheel locks up versus the Ford with ABS. We should all remove ABS from our cars! 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe Mazda had a crystal ball showing the 323 4x4, now we know what the WRC would become after the 86 RAC rally. Pretty rare to find now those I think.

because they didnt get the escort, i think australia got a ford version of it, called the laser TX3, that sold well into the 90's. i don't know if there was also mazda version there

I was on stand duty at Austin Rover at the 1986 show, terrible that its all gone now and our capacity to build 600,000 cars a year. No wonder there are 11 million people of working age not working now.
@marc87supra
@marc87supra 2 ай бұрын
Not a surprise though, the cars out of Austin Rover were increasingly terrible and build quality left much to be desired. The UK still has around 170,000 people employed in automotive manufacturing and produces 1.6+ million vehicles a year, so still a thriving industry.

I love old cars and think (looking back nostalgically) they are always better looking than newer cars. Except.... the mid-80s. These cars are hideous and utterly forgettable. The Jag is okay and the TVR maybe but it still looks so... 80s. I guess the new AC Ace never made it to market?

The 'real' Top Gear when they tested & reported them rather than the 3 later clowns just destroy then, the BBC made a big mistake trying to get the 'boy racer' viewers to boost their figures, my classic car was done as a feature in 1991/2
@ghvtg
@ghvtg 2 ай бұрын
Erm, no. Clarkson, Hammond and May presented on the 'real' Top Gear too. That's what it was called!! And it was far more successful for viewer numbers domestically and globally than the older Top Gear version, making alot more money for the BBC. I don't see why that would be a mistake they made, perhaps you could elaborate on your logic?

My Dad bought an F reg 89 Carlton 2 litre CD in 2003 for £250. He ran it for 4.5 years and only the fuel pump broke. Unfortunately had to scrap it in the end as the fuel tank went rotten and was leaking petrol. But it was a lovely car
