I got this recently. I thought the board and military side of the game was just tacked on. I do love their take on the 3x3 deck building choices. I wish this had been adopted in more deck building games.

Yeah, it feels a little like they had that great grid idea and then built around that. The military especially feels so rudimentary, it’s almost out of place

Review what you want! I feel people in the hobby forget that not everyone has been in the hobby for years, and that many people haven't played the same games you have. Also, for games like this, I'm so, so glad they have a non-mini version. Thanks for sharing!

Weird, in my opinion, this is one of the few games I prefer the minis version, tokens were messy, hard to see what was going on the tile, and they didn't fit if there were too many .. it was terrible and my gaming group did not like it ... one of my friends said, "I hate messy games and this is way too messy "... So I unpacked Mosaic and used mosaic minis instead ... warriors as warriors, Horseman as Hero and villagers as 2 scouts ... and suddenly the game was so much more enjoyable, and you could now instantly tell what was on each tile ... then you have games like Witcher that I have no clue what was the point of minis where a huge monster card on the board already serves the purpose, particularly if monsters are static and do not move around the board in any strategic way !

@@Berndr 😄 To each their own. I've just been moving away from miniatures the longer I've been in the hobby in general. I also can't really say what I'd prefer as an experience for something like this since I've not played it. I just know I have very limited space now, so I'm more likely to snag a token/standee game for storage sake.

@@morgaknightgames I am there with you just unnecessary clutter in most cases but few games I would not play without it like The Great Wall for example

I bought the expansions online and I like them. The Asymmetry is bigger in the expansions, especially African Empires. Continuous is nice, your turns are just one action and your opponent can then respond, greatly reduces last turn benefit and the extra scoring options help balance the problematic area control scoring.

I enjoyed the review - well done! I'm one of those unfortunate folks who did the KS campaign. The real kicker is that I just got the cardboard version, so they are selling the game I paid for to others. If they are having money issues - I wish they would just own up to it and ask. I appreciate them trying not to ask for more funding, but at this point in time, I just want my game.

Some shipping has finally started happening. I basically have all of it. What i prefer is Warlord minis and tokens everything else. I guess if you wanted to you could put a duplicate unit mini on top of the stack in the same territory but why swap minis for tokens in and out constantly. Warloord mini is pretty enough for me. Also game is great and other factions add more variance. For example Atlanteans are pro science, have their own mechanic and feel quite different than others. Some others have some variance but not a ton. Overall great game.

Was it worth taking unit tokens instead of minis?

I didn’t get to make the choice, since the only version I could find in retail was the token version. If both had been available, I probably would’ve gotten the miniature version because of my unhealthy obsession with grey plastic. That said, having only experienced the token version, it’s much more user-friendly than a minis edition. This is a game that absolutely does not need miniatures! For the ridiculous secondhand market prices for mini versions of this game, I think you’re much better off going for tokens

I have a token version and when I introduced it to my group, they did not like it, because tokens were messy and hard to fit onto a tile, falling off, and not clear what was going on the tile ... so I used mosaic's minis instead, which worked much better...in this particular game I do recommend minis version... this is a very good game

I was taught with minis. They don't fit well, unpainted you are mainly watching the bases to see board state, and while they look great in general pull from the game play. I'd like acrylic tokens but the cardboard is solid enough.

I’ve been falling in love with acrylic tokens and standees… just played Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor and dang, those standees ROCK

@@boardandsaviorgames Dont know about that game but in Castles of Burgundy they are awful , too smooth keep sliding , and don't have all info printed on it ...
