0:45 Shades of Denis Stoff with these vocals, but with actual balls to back them up. I love Chris' new lower key vocal style, easier on his voice, and allows the grooves to drive the music, and oh lawd they do. I was a bit nervous about A.W.O.L. (didn't stop me from playing it at least twice a day) but hearing this convinces me that Phronesis might just be their best album to date, only time will tell though. Also 3:23 about time he put this in a song, he does it live often enough. XD

The two previous albums (especially Amanuensis) are really "inspired" albums. The construction of lyrics and melodic vocal parts in The Amanuensis are very accurate and well contextualized. In these last two singles I found the "classic" Monuments, but only in the instrumental part...lyrics and clean vocals are below my expectations and hear this from one of the best modern metal bands out there really hurts. I think this new record is simply not for me...I hope I can contradict myself in the future...in any case...SICK INSTRUMENTAL!
@Magmoormaster6 жыл бұрын
I agree with the OP. The instrumentation is fantastic, but the lyrics don't really work. It's like Michael Jackson meets 80s glam metal. It's a shame considering how good Chris has been in the past, with amanuensis and his short stint with haunted shores. I love sp0nce though. So I must disagree with this other reply.
@silent8ch9776 жыл бұрын
mercuryfaith... Amanuensis stopped me in my tracks about 4 months ago. I only came across this band because I was falling down a Periphery rabbit hole and Spotify decided it was time to make some alternative suggestions. :) I’ve been really looking forward to this album and when they dropped the first song I was like... oh no. BUT I did listen to AWOL without watching the lyrics video several times and it grew on me. I am WAY more optimistic hearing this track and I suggest not watching the lyrics as well. I have to keep reminding myself it took me 10,000 try’s to actually GET the genius of 10,000 days and now its my favorite album ever.

Can we just put those „i like it/i dont like it” comments aside for a second and just appreciate the sick riffage and overall composition and mix ? Hats down to all the people participating in composing/recording this material. Whether all of you like it or not, it is very nice that there are people down there who produce music with that level of paying attention to details.
