So accurate when it comes to mood reading. I easily get distracted by new books and every time I go to the library for one book, I come back with like ten that I can never get to them all. I just started keeping a reading journal and that's helping me be more focused on my reading tbr a bit because I have it in front of me physically and it keeps it in my mind.

Definitely a mood reader. That's why I never follow trends. I never feel like reading the books on the current trend. The more trendy, the less read-y I am :P But that also means I'm left out of all the "gush talk" that you mentioned. I also do a weird mood thing. I tend to be stubborn about books, so if I pick one up to read in that mood's moment, I will stick with that book, not pick up a new book, and only read the current book when the mood strikes. Meaning that unless the mood continues, it takes me forever to finish one book (unless it's just so super exciting, I might devour it in a day or a week depending on my busy life).

ALL THESE THINGS ARE ME! I gave up on buddy reads, Readathon, challenges, TBRs, heck even “hopefuls”. I literally just have my husband choose a book at random for me off my shelf, hand it to me, and I read. Or I set my GR TBR to “random” and read the first one that pops up. It’s THE ONLY WAY 🥺 I think it mostly stems from choice and decision paralysis like you mentioned on one of them.

I can totally agree with only being able to read certain stories in the right season! Very specific example: I started this Manga "Hells Paradise" in the summer time like two years ago, it's set on a tropical magical jungle island! Soooo I always read it in the summer time at the pool after I swam some laps, and I can not imagine reading it at home wrapped in a blanket sipping some tea! That just feels SUPER WRONG! It's starting to be warmer again here in Germany so I took it to the pool this weekend and continued the series!

This was very funny, but also sort of tragic 😅 I'm the opposite of a moodreader. I can't read without a TBR or schedule, because I get overwhelmed with all the choices. So my months are scheduled out with what I'm reading. Also with balance between the genres and formats. I pick my reads with challenges, buddy reads and readathons. I don't mind if you make a TBR and don't read it. I just love the videos, don't care haha. Maybe you could do seasonal TBRs where you find the books that fit that season? So you have them on your radar and can pick them up easier when you want. And if not, that's also okay.

So relatable! Something I absolutely hate about being a mood reader is being almost done with a book and then my brain does a complete 180, and I stop reading the book for months. Then when I’m back in the mood to read the book… I don’t because I’ve forgotten the plot. So many regrettable DNFs.

I've struggled being a mood reader. One the things I've been trying to practice is, just letting myself read whatever I want whenever I want. Like, early March I read a Christmas rom-com because it sounded fun. I'm so glad I did, because now I have a Christmas book rec to give during Christmas time for the first time ever XD Just let yourself read whatever - no matter what it is, because honestly.. no one's gonna care if you read a spooky book in spring, or if you don't read Hot Dog Girl in July. Just get them books read XD!!!

I only recently became a mood reader. When I was in school ,thanks to English class, I didn’t get to choose what to read and didn’t know a lot about the books . But I enjoyed most of them anyway. That attitude carried over to my personal reading. But years after I’ve been in any English class and no longer have required reading, I can’t just pick things up anymore. Having choice and variety has made me moody ,lol.

I’m sorry this response is so long, but I feel like you just can’t get a short answer from a mood reader because there’s so many things going on at once with our brains. I’ve been subscribed to box boxes since august 2022. My reasoning? To find more authors and series to read. I’ve been subscribed to multiple boxes since September 2022. And guess how many I’ve read? 2, yes 2. This week I was having a hard time deciding what to read. I tried starting several books. None, sounded good. I even tried reading a new book I’ve been so excited for. Nope. Thankfully, I did find a book to read.

Meanwhile I'm here reading a *christmas* book in May... Although I'm not really a mood reader* I don't understand how/why people make a monthly tbr. My tbr is just a bunch of books that have in some way at some point in time peaked my interest. *I still go for books I'm ''in the mood for'' at that time. Usually this manifests itself as me wanting to read cute romance/friendship books between fantasy/sci-fi books or series.

Man, can I relate! Especially now!!! Oh, the agony... I keep 2 general TBRs every year - in the notes of my yearly planner, I will write a small list of unread books to aim for, and another for rereads of old favorites (particularly, I NEED to read Sarah J Maas's series at least one time a year). These are mostly for those moments when I'm struggling to decide what to read. But more often than not, I wind up just picking something else. Seasonal reads? I get that too. Some series just mesh well with the vibes of certain seasons. The problem is, I live in the desert, where it's either summer or winter, with MAYBE 3-4 weeks of spring and fall in between before temps plummet or sky rocket. So I feel a bit limited in matching book vibes with season vibes. And yes, the dreaded choice of FORMAT! I'm either physical or audio (don't have an e-reader). Some titles I have in just one or the other, but the majority of my favs I have in both. I'll often teeter back and forth, burn myself out on one and dive into the other, or try to appease both at the same time, after HOURS of internal debate. As for series, I'm actually one of those readers who feels very uncomfortable if I don't finish a series before starting something new (provided it's a complete series and I have all the books). Only 2 times did I abandon a series before finishing, mostly because I was losing interest and desperately needed the comforts of a world I loved being in. I feel your pain Jesse 📚😵📚

A good tip that might help mood readers (and how I avoided becoming a mood reader) is when buying/borrowing books. Pick a book that you KNOW you would read. Don't pick books on a whim, or because you're slightly in the premise, just try to get books you are sure are worth your time. Do your research before going to the bookstore/library. This method has helped me the most and I hope will help you, too.

I think that everyone should and secretly is a mood reader because it just means that you read the book that you feel like reading which should be the case always (reading being a HOBBY). I think that a lot of people, however, feel the pressure to read certain books for certain reasons and forget that reading is just for fun. I used to feel so bad any time I was in the mood to reread the Percy Jackson series because I could be reading a new book instead of rereading this one for the sixth time. But now I embrace it and simply pick up whatever I want. And so what if it means I have 10 currently-reading books on Goodreads.

The only time I am moody about books is during my exams as that time I can't really read properly(i mean literally not focused) so on that times i want to read something short, easy-to-read and honestly i prefer graphic novels that time(cough* like diary of a wimpy kid cough*)
