One version of this song ends with the following poem: "Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day’s useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold-hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight. Red is gray and yellow white, But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion?"

You may already know the story about this album. The Moody Blues were a rock and roll band with a number of hits when stereo recording was invented. The record company gave them money and said go make an album using stereo so we can see how it sounds. The record company was angry when The Moody Blues turned in this first concept album using a full Orchestra because they were expecting just rock and roll songs. However, when they released it the album became a big hit. You should listen to the other songs on the album they're almost as good as Nights In White Satin. And watch the official Nights In White Satin video which was recorded when they were older. The Orchestra plays a bigger role in the song, very emotional. Also, that is a great background.

Justin Hayward has one of the greatest voices of any genre. There are many Moody Blues songs that exemplify his vocals. Here’s a few: Never Comes the Day; Voices in the Sky; The Artist; Watching and Waiting; Question; and from his collab with John Lodge, Bluebirds, I Dreamed Last Night. Solo, try Forever Autumn. My wife has always been entranced by his voice, especially the cracking. It just makes the emotion so real.

Love this song. In the early nineties, I worked for a West Coast regional record store chain (anyone remember The Wherehouse?). I worked in the corporate office. Occasionally, artists would visit us, sign autographs and sometimes do a little ad hoc performance. One of those artists was Justin Hayward of Moody Blues fame. He performed an acoustic version of Knights. I was about 8 feet from the guy. A memorable day indeed.

"Wake up Maggie (May/Reneé), I think I have something to tell you," sung by the inimitable Rod Stewart in his stunning song, Maggie May, and album "Every Picture Tells a Story." One of my other favorite albums of all time is the album "Days of Future Passed" by The Moody Blues, which debuted in 1967. I discovered their transcendant music at the tender age of 13 (I was a music student). I was blown away, especially by "Knights in White Satin," and listened to the entire album over and over again, and even my conservative parents approved (thankfully). The sublime music, harmonies, and poetry of The Moody Blues spoke to my young heart like nothing before. I recommend that you listen to the whole album, Maggie Reneé. You will not be disappointed. This entire Album was remarkable. Days of Future Past. Simply amazing. And more so when you consider their age at the time.

The most beautiful love song of the whole rock history.

I love this song and with a full orchestra is evan better. One of my favorite things is when rock is combined with classical music and opera. One of my favorite groups was a group called The East Village Opera Company. I don’t think they are still around but they would sing opera’s in the origianl language but arranged like a rock group and with rock instruments. They were fantastic.

Seeing the Moody Blues with a full orchestra if beyond magical. My highschool mascot was the Lancer. This song to this day, from 1973 to now, has been the prom theme quite frequently.

Group had a hit with a cover of Bessie Banks' "Go Now" in late 1964. Three years later, they were back with a new sound, featuring the Mellotron. "Days of Future Passed" is a song cycle built around the hours of the day.

Oh Maggie, I always enjoy your work, but have to agree - I would have loved to hear you react to the complete orchestra version 35 years on.

Listened to this floating off an island in the Caribbean under a cloudless sky and a full moon dancing on the water. One obdurate memory I'll never lose.

Magnificent song and Band, you need to hear the version they did live with a full orchestra, beyond emotional. They are worth an extended review, they have many awesome tunes. They were up there with the Beatles, the WHO and the Rolling Stones for all time great British groups to come out of the 1960s. Do Legend of a Mind next, I could listen them all day! Their albums from 1967 - 1972 are as good a run as anyone ever had. Legends! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎻🎶🔥

"For My Lady" is a beautiful song by The Moody Blues" and a fan favorite. It's sung by one of their other vocalists, Ray Thomas. They have three lead singers!
