RIP Ray Thomas. The flute was certainly an unusual instrument for a rock and roll band but it worked for the Moody Blues
@caryheuchert2 жыл бұрын
Ray was such a talented multi-instrumentalist. His classical flute style certainly influenced many bands that followed... King Crimson, Genesis, PFM, and many others.

It is one of the perfect expressions of a man loving a woman. Most love songs, people don't realize, are broken love/hearthbreak lament songs. There are very few songs about a man successfully loving a woman. Ironic that. Probably the reverse is true. Lemonade. ;-)

My first real girlfriend in Junior high and thru High School (JUDY) asked me what made me fall in love with her. And I quoted Justin Hayward singing "The Sound I Had Heard In Your Hello" from this song.(early to mid 70s) Judy passed several years ago, and to this day I think about her, this song and that line..

Rest in Peace Ray Thomas (flute, plus other woodwind instruments) and Graeme Edge (drums, songwriter, poet). With your passing the The Moody Blues won't exist anymore. A very sad day in life and music. Thanks Graeme and Ray for your contributions and may your legacy grow evermore.

RIP Ray Thomas and Graham Edge you both are truly missed. The whole band created a new way to play rock and roll music by adding orchestra to the band. No other band but Elvis Presley had an orchestra play the music along with the band. The Moody Blues will always be the best band I ever heard, and in the 60's I was a teenager so that's a give away of how old I am and how I will always be a fan.

Brings me back to time of innocence. A time where you thought all you had was time. A time where I made best friends with a gentleman Mike and all though we don’t see each other we are still best friends. He calls me his oldest friend. If I could live those times over I would do it in a heartbeat.

A beautiful song for sure, I just saw Justin perform this last month, still amazing at near 77. There is some hidden message in this song, Justin won't reveal it but something must have happened in a broken love, I believe he was only 22 when he wrote this.

A few years ago I had the incredible opportunity to take our daughter to a concert. Justin picked up his old guitar and started singing this song-I had tears streaming down my face. Our girls grew up on this stuff, we were married with their music playing-they have been a soundtrack to the best parts of my life. Truly, the best band that ever was.

The studio version of this song is one of the MOST passionate songs I have ever heard. Yes, there are many love songs out there, however, if you look up the lyrics............OH MY GOD! Not to mention the passion in his voice when he pours out his whole heart to the woman he has become infatuated with because she said "hello" to him. I can't get enough of this song. This is the true romantic in me.

Moody Jill2 I remember you from the Prodigy days. It's been quite a journey. The Moodies have been an inspiration my entire life. The wisdom in their music is timeless and universal, especially the Core 7. It's there for us to know, with Love that we can go; burn slowly the candle of life.

Beautiful and unusual clip of a song we dont see live that often a beautiful and timeless song and great to see the late great Ray Thomas play the flute in this song of which makes the song alongside Justin's lovely melodious voice and John's harmonies, a beautiful song...and a great performance in the studio live on this show. 💕🎵🎶🎵

Just discovered this video gem, having just come home from seeing John in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., ten days after seeing Justin in Great Barrington, Mass. The Moody Blues as a band was far greater than the sum of its five parts, but at least we still have these two individuals.

I remember this. The band had just been in Los Angeles, California for several appearances. I missed the appearance at the Hard Rock 🎸 Cafe, but made it to the Tonight Show ( Jay Leno knew all of the words to the song - a true fan!), the Guitar Center and so on - everything thing was great and just over the top! I don't remember if this was the 1st time that they performed at the Hollywood Bowl, but the Band gave an outstanding performance, and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, it was absolutely amazing. I think Peter Knight would have approved. They opened with "Gypsy " and already had the crowd standing up and cheering. There were many celebrities there and they were doing the same. We were already wondering when they would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No one at that time would have believed that it would take another 25 years. Thanks a lot, Mr. Wenner, for focusing on the heavy metal and punk rock bands, while shutting out more talented bands, because of your bias... The thing that helped the Progressive Rock bands, was the opening up of the voting process to the fans. The fans made it clear that they were glad to finally have a voice in who should be inducted and that great and sustaining talent is just what it should be about. It speaks volumes when a great band such as the Moody Blues is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the 1st attempt. Bon Jovi placed 1st in the voting, but it was their 2nd attempt. So, this speaks volumes - the rest of the candidates were not even close. I know that the Fans were beyond happy when the Moody Blues were finally acknowledged! I was at the induction. Someone hung a banner over the balcony railing that said it all - "FINALLY!" Thank you to the Moody Blues and thank you to the Fans - YOU DID IT!! Jaz Zander

Mary Liljequist: That would be 1982? Strangely enough, I have memories of this song from the fall of 1982. By then, this was a 14 year old song, but that was the time I discovered The Moody Blues in depth. I had just started driving and met my first girlfriend that August. I will forever associate this song with her... and will no doubt put a lump in my throat everytime I hear it.

Yes! It was Charleston WV in late December 1981. So sad about Ray Thomas. We are losing to many of the great one's.
@doula201013 жыл бұрын
The song is sung so wonderfully by Justin. It is better when you can get the full stereo effect. Not many bands can play a song on TV and still have it sound so good. I know that they were together in the 60's so in 1995 they were together longer than 25 years. Although Ray had been married to a woman for at least that long. Don't really know much about their personal lives. The concert at Albert Hall and the Red Rocks are awesome. Can't imagine they would ever have a "bad sounding " one.
