@pirateradio8086 жыл бұрын
all of the GrandMother demos I've heard sound HUGE and vintage. Maybe it's the touch of spring reverb playing tricks on my ears, but that is what most impresses me about the synth.
@lucio7886 жыл бұрын
man, wow, I'm not into owning synths anymore, back in the 2000s you had vintage or virtual analog only, this is amazing what's going on with analog synths, and this one looks like the rogue, my favorite moog back then, I would have gone crazy with this
@avrilcadabra6 жыл бұрын
I only have one moog, the concertmate mg-1 and this grandmother seems like the mg-1's grandaughter, similar philosophy with the layout trying to make it more beginner friendly. It Audibly sounds like the MG-1 too. That said it has extra things the mg-1 does not, patching, spring reverb, sequencer. Hopefully it has a lot more room to grow.
@mattsynth6 жыл бұрын
Finally a patch bay across the top. This makes so much more sense than side bays. Love that Moog filter.
@ProckGnosis6 жыл бұрын
Bennies to both approaches I would say...I've heard it just as much "thank-god they didn't string the patch points all across the top of the module..." It is nice to have the patch points physically located near the function they support I agree, but I do get tired of having patch cables strung ALL across the surface versus keeping them nicely grouped on the side. Guess for me it depends on how MUCH patching I'm doing.

I like how simple it is, no presets, good sounding. Moog knows how to tune their circuits together to make musical machines. Looks like an instrument to me. Looking forward to try it. And the patchbay on top per section is great (I hate the side patchbay on the mother, never know if I should read on the bottom or top of the jacks...)

@ChillMode346 жыл бұрын
I’d wonder how it would change the sound though, because resonance does this excellent lead sound that I’ve only heard on parliament albums from the 70’s. I have a sub phatty also and resonance just seems to be more lead oriented. Though I will say my sub phatty has shown the ability fatten up the bass end if you make some tweaks coupled with the resonance.

This looks cool but the trouble is that I`m still just too damn allergic to Synths that don`t have a patch memory. I like to hallmark fave patches that I tweak to my loking and create n store stuff like bass patches from scratch. I guess the closest I`ll get to sommit like this is the Matrix Brute
@Alaska19256 жыл бұрын
It's kinda the opposite for me, I see a synth with presets and/or patch saving capability, and I immediately remove it from my list.. exact reason why I like the Matrixbrute as a concept (and also think it sounds veeery good) but I don't want one :P Whatever rocks our boats, right? The best thing about all of this, the whole synth market right now, is that we can choose. There are so many variables, so many sub-types.. pick and choose what you like best =)
@alexanderreyes68746 жыл бұрын
I love the Moog sound. I find the Matrixbrute to be a modern synth. For a monosynth with paraphonic capabilities it's a bit endless.
@ubiquitousreverser6 жыл бұрын
Yep, synth lovers delight! I enjoy patch mem myself. But I venture into discovery with or without on my 2 little monsters. Subphatty keeps the presets, and the 0-coast, hits warp speed into endless soundscapes beyond imagination.

What's your issue with a mono synth?
@WilliamCharlesShaver6 жыл бұрын
Antonio229 I have nothing against mono synths; its just that there's tons of mono synths out right now and there doesn't appear to be anything especially distinctive about this new Moog offering. I'd like to see Moog return to offering innovative features (that would justify higher price tags)--especially since Behringer are offering, essentially, Minimoogs without keyboard for way less than this Grandmother.

Not the synth for you. Or me either for that matter, but yes, people do succeed with workflows that lack the ability to save patches.
@bwest62756 жыл бұрын
Saving a patch is as simple as taking a picture of the end result.
@alexandrosroussos6 жыл бұрын
Haze Anderson well the limitation may actually be good in some cases as it helps to take decisions quicker in the creative process as you have to freeze a recording and build on it, or start from scratch if it ends up not sounding as you like. Also has that spirit of uniqueness that’s valuable in art. So as you say, it’s not suitable for everyone but it does have its reason to exist.
