Why on the strip board layout for this shows two inputs and this one has one input?

Its a really soft filter, right?

Yes, I would say it is. Certainly when compared to something like the Steiner Parker diode filter which can have a very agressive resonance. The ladder filter drops in amplitude (volume) if you turn resonance fully open, which you can see in this demo.
