Okay you guys asked for a 4.3 octave marimba solo, and today happens to be the 15th day of the lunar calendar (full moon!!!) SO here is my new 4.3 octave marimba solo titled 'Moon'!
★ BACKGROUND NOTES ★
Moon (月) is based on the Chinese mythological story of Chang'e and her husband Houyi, who was a famous archer. The Jade Emperor's sons had transformed into ten suns, scorching the earth with their heat. The Emperor was not pleased and sent Houyi to shoot down the suns, but Houyi left one sun alive to keep the earth alive.
The Emperor was not pleased and banished Houyi and Chang'e from the heavens, stripping them of their immortality and forcing them to live as mortals. As Houyi wanted to avoid death with his wife, he wished to find a way for them to return to heaven quickly.
The queen of heaven, Wangmu, gave Houyi an elixir that would allow exactly one person to ascend immediately to heaven and become immortal. Houyi gave it to Chang'e to keep as they could not both drink the elixir, and they kept it safe at home.
However, one of his students, Fengmeng, had seen this exchange and decided to steal the elixir from the house while Houyi was out. Chang'e could not defeat him and was forced to drink the elixir of immortality, floating away into heaven.
Houyi was deeply saddened, as he realised he could never see Chang'e ever again. Houyi then looked towards the moon and saw a figure that resembled Chang'e floating in front. From then onwards, he would offer sacrifices for her by putting out fruits and cakes that Chang'e liked on an altar, in the hope that Chang'e would know that he would love her forever.
The themes of Moon reflect the above - the first theme symbolises Houyi's quest for immortality, the central climax symbolises the fight between Fengmeng and Chang'e, before Chang'e floats away, and the final theme is a recapitulation of the first theme - except it now reflects Houyi's eternal quest for finding Chang'e again someday.

Adam, you probably won't see this, but I just want to say thank you for rekindling my passion and interest in marimba. Ever since I completed ABRSM grade 8 back when I was 15, I haven't had the initiative to want to learn how to play with four sticks nevermind pursuing a diploma. Your videos and compositions are not only insightful and sound absolutely beautiful, but they inspired me to want to pursue marimba to a higher level :) keep it up

Adam!!! Again you've more than managed to impress me like normal XD I'm currently a student at a highschool and while we do marching band related percussion in the fall, our director has all of his students do what he calls the "Solo Program" Where we must play 1 Snare solo, 1 Timpani solo, and 1 Keyboard solo. We get to choose the solos we play as long as they believe we are capable of playing them. I've always been interested in music but now I have gained more than a massive interest. I typically enjoy Vibraphone much more but as i'm working on writing my own piece (Shattered Sunrise), I've started using Steven's grip because i wanted to play both vibraphone and marimba. I wanted to get ahead for next year and try to find pieces now so while we are in our marching season i am not just doing marching material. And i think I have just found the perfect marimba solo to play. ^.^ Thanks for being more than an inspiration and for all of the awesome and helpful tips.

I’ll be buying this when I get paid! I want to get the hard copy though. Btw, I’ve been working to lighten my touch on a marimba. I’ve found that I tend to play really heavy and it affects accuracy and phrasing. Do you have any advice for this? And I definitely hope to work with you a lot at MalletLab!

Ryan Carlisle My unprofessional advice would be to try to do as much of an upstroke as possible, almost like with drumsticks, you could do a lot of double laterals on C and G or F. Almost try to pull the sound out of the marimba. Hope this helps!

Thank you Ryan! Hard copy will come out soon hopefully, we still have to get cover art and all that sorted first ahaha... as for the lightening thing, I basically spent a lot of time just playing the marimba as gently as possible (just touching it with the mallet instead of actually using a downstroke and hitting it) and trying to keep my heads lower when playing passages, and yes like King Umbreon said, playing up more helps too! And I can't wait to meet the famous Ryan Carlizzle (!!!) at Malletlab!

Hey Adam! I just finished playing a marimba solo and i think I’m ready to move on. I was trying to determine how to go about picking another solo. Where can i find a good source to find solos? If you have any tips please inform me. Thanks
