That’s a gripe I have with the MCU in general. Here it’s not bothering me, or at least, it’s not pulling me out of the story like it has with past Marvel films or shows.

If they'd been given a 10, or even 8 episode slate? Sure. But with 6 eps you need to move it along.

Production note: the "Marc" that Steven hugged was actually Oscar Isaac's brother, who was hired as a stand-in for this episode. Also, the mental ward Layla had a piece of tape with a red scarab drawn on it, around one of her fingers. Along with her father's name, it could indicate a specific fate that does not involve Konshu.
@TheMimiSard2 жыл бұрын
I am not so sure of that. Yes, I did read that Mike Hernandez was on set for Oscar to act off of, but if you google him, he is a fair bit more plump than his brother. I think who we see onscreen is a body double and Mike was behind the camera.

I loved the Fight Club, Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Shutter Island Jacob's Ladder, and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest influences in this episode. Seeing Taweret at the end was fantastic. The visuals in the Psychiatric Ward were marvelous. The horror elements in this episode were also outstanding. The second sarcophagus is another hint at Jake Lockley. Arthur Harrow shooting Marc Spector was cool-blooded. Marc Spector and Steven Grant's interaction in the Psychiatric Ward was a fantastic scene. Layla vs Heka Priest was creepy as hell.

Come to think about it, the mental hospital is actually inside of Marc's head. That's why Marc & Steven were able to hug eachother (be in the same space/dimension. Also...that other sarcophagus that was shaking...I think that's "Jake" (the other personality).

Apart from the Tawaret scene (NB: Tawaret until now has never been part of either Moonknight or Marvel) the fact that Steven’s Hollywood fake London accent and name was derived from a movie ripping off Indiana Jones was inspired

Marc and Steven werent aware of the 3rd personality last episode so calling that personality his partner doesnt seem likely. So I imagine it was an actual different person who killed her dad. Looking FABULOUS as ALWAYS! Fyi...Most of the people in the mental hospital are characters from episodes 1-4 (the beginning til now). Like the old man directing the Bingo game is the golden "Statue Man", The orderlies are Harrow's henchmen (& woman), etc. They're stating that Marc (the original owner of the body) created everything in his head. I think the mental institution is more of a "Purgatory" or a place where your consciousness goes before the gods can "bring you back"? Great episode!
@joeg64782 жыл бұрын
idk what fate would be worse for Steven and Marc, the act of getting shot to death so close to their goal of saving the world or realizing that they're trapped in creepy "therapy sessions" at an afterlife mental ward run by the man who shot them

I have no spoilers, only guesses (haven't read any Moon Knight comics myself...) Taweret was mentioned in the opening episode as they were scanning her hippo plushies. She seems pretty adorable in person. Apparently she's mainly a fertility god, although Wikipedia mentions the belief during at least one time period that she not only aids in births but in rebirth after death, so that may be what she's doing here, assisting in the afterlife. Of course, Marc was killed and brought back once before by Khonshu, so I'm guessing he won't stay dead this time either. Still, what will the cost of coming back again be, and will it be paid by Marc, Steven or Layla?

I loved this episode. Remember, Marc had said earlier that he'd been shot before and when telling Layla what happened that he was supposed to die too. I believe that it was his real-life partner that shot everyone, including Layla's father and Marc and that was when Khonshu saved Marc from death.

Your opening comments delighted this comic book fan in his mid-40's; quite vindicating! If you do the math and know the historical trajectory of the artform's reputation, that means I began reading juuust before it gained cultural acceptance, much less this level of prominence. When I started, it was a habit one might wanna hide for fear of (metaphorical) wedgies. Some ppl hate it when their niche interest explodes, but I couldn't be happier that the fiction I gravitated to as a kid is now globally recognized as the home of some of the kick-ass-est concepts/characters humanity has invented. My elderly mom and her literal country bumpkin husband (love ya!) know and love...Groot, Harley Quinn, Hellboy, Black Panther, Constantine, etc. etc. ad infinitum...now Moon Knight? Mygawd, wow. OH! Also, quality reaction. :-)

Welcome to the OtherVoid: a space between dreams and reality, mind and matter. This part of the OtherVoid is Marc's Inner World. A combination of his teenage memories of being institutionalized for the other side effects of his DID (Bipolar Depression, severe anxiety,) and his predisposition to magic, (seen by the medical community as schizophrenia, blended with recent memories and people they have seen. Inner Worlds work like that, sometimes, but not all the time. Also, Jake isn't more violent. He is an assasin. Just like Marc is the Mercenary, and Stephen is the Egyptologist. This Episode hinted that Stephen is a fictive: an alter based off of a piece of media. There is a chance that Jake is a factive: an alter based off of a person they knew in real life. So there is a chance the original Jake was Marc's partner, and this Jake was created because they were both killed, and Marc's guilt over that death manifested as a copy of the originals personality and honed the aspects of Marc's skill set that mirrored the originals as a result.

Fun Fact: Oscar Isaac is acting w/his brother in scenes where he needs to be duplicated. Part of me thinks Marc may have also tossed Steven down that shaft too after the punch. LOLOL From Episode 1: Hippo = Goddess Taweret. The Goddess Taweret is mentioned by Steven with a "V" in episode 1 when he was talking to Donna about the Ennead and she said to hand her the box of hippos. He corrected her and said the hippos were Taweret. QUESTION: Wondering is there a 3rd Moon Knight suit if the 3rd guy, Jake, takes over and changes into Moon Knight?! Marc = hood/cape; Steven = dope ass 3pc suit; Jake = ????

The Hippo greeter was the egyptian goddess Tarewet. I'm assuming that Marc did die (he gets better, I assume. There are still two episodes to go), and she rescued him to be her avatar. We do know that people can become avatars of different gods, after all.

I don't think you have to worry too much about comics readers spoiling anything here. The show has diverged SIGNIFICANTLY from the comics, despite borrowing some visuals and thematic elements. My theory is that the end of the episode represented Marc/Steven on their passage toward the afterlife. We can see the lights in the hallway (which don't fit thematically in the psych ward) sway to one side and hear the creaking of wood, as if they're inside a large boat. This is like limbo or purgatory or something to that effect, and he's on his way to be judged if my theory's right. He'll have to learn to work with his alters and embrace them all and trust each other. And that hippo god (Taweret) will help guide him through this. No real basis for that in the comics other than some broad themes, but I just feel like that's where the show is leading.

Loved the episode. The return of Steven is very refreshing. Marc is worn out and cynical, but not Steven. While he is in over his head. he sees it all as a grand adventure. It makes a little sense to hide the figurine of Amet inside the remains of Alexander the great, since no one knows where that is either. I think the asylum is a sort of way station. a place between life and death. The other sarcophagus most likely holds Khonshu, but could hold another(?) Their combined reaction, and yours, to the talking hippo was perfect. Can't wait until next week. Also, on a totally unrelated subject, that color looks great on you. And if I may be so bold as to say, you have very nice legs. What I saw of them at least. I realize that this maybe taken as offensive., and I do apologize. But I think both needed to be said.
