Oscar Isaac is such a good actor, he plays both characters so well. Steven is heartbreakingly innocent of what's going on and we grow instantly fond of him. Mr Big Fella has such disdain for him but Mark seems to care for him as well as he replaces the fish rather than letting Steven find him dead and he takes over when Steven is in peril. That Steven is in peril because of Mark and Big Fella is a whole can of worms I'm sure we'll get into in the coming weeks! Great reaction video and get well soon Jess!

Considering Ep 5’s revelations, it appears Marc wants to protect Steven from having to cope with death. Even that of a goldfish. Steven grieving would start to break down walls Marc wants up.

Ethan Hawke's character is named Arthur Harrow, and even though I'm well steeped in the comics lore of Moon Knight, even I'm totally blind as to where they're going with the Harrow character. They took the name from an extremely minor character that appeared in a single comic issue years ago and the comic character was nothing like the cult leader character he appears to be here. Moon Knight himself is a really cool character. Looking forward to seeing you learn more about him!

Moon Knight is such an intresting and unique character. He's very much a Marvel street level hero at his core like Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Punisher for example all street level hero's or in the case of Moon Knight and Punisher anti-hero's. This very much gives Moon Knight his own bubble away from the events happening at the moment within the MCU along with zero connection to the Avengers for example. He's far more likely to run into characters like Daredevil than Captain America or Doctor Strange so I'm excited for any little future team-ups. If you want to get into the Moon Knight Comic's the best place to start would be the Bendis and Maleev's run. This feels like a new era of Marvel, Moon Knight could be the next Iron Man introducing us to a new world of street level hero's by starting off slow but ending with a bang opening the door to maybe the Midnight Sons to maybe just Moon Knight meeting Daredevil and Punisher.

@@decidueye2963 Street level isn't about what they can do or what abilities they have, it's about what they deal with. For example, Clark Kent in Smallville. In the first seasons, he was definitely street level. Sure, he had immense power, but he only dealt with petty thugs, small scale crime, etc. Powerless heroes can be considered to be beyond street level if they deal with a lot large scale threats. Like Batman dealing with Darkseid when he is on a Justice League mission. So, again it's not about the power, it's about what they usually deal with.

Despite being a long time Marvel fan, I knew very little of Moon Knight. I absolutely agree with you that part of what made this first episode work for me was going into it not knowing anything like Steven. I do know the different alters but how they will be presented by the MCU will be fun to discover as the show moves forward. What I did know was that Oscar Issac (as Moon Knight and his alters), Ethan Hawke (as Arthur Harrow plus and an amalgam of other villainous entities), May Calamawy (as Layla whom we only heard when he called her from the untraceable burner phone he found in his wall), and F. Murray Abraham (Khonshu - the Egyptian god of the moon/vengeance) were the leads in the show. Such a brilliant and unique pilot episode for this new (to the MCU) Superhero.

Steven/Marc has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder, and here is what D.I.D is. Patients have 'alters' who come forth, most often when the person or host is in (what they perceive to be) distress. It usually develops as a result of extreme, sustained trauma. The alters act as a container of sorts to keep the thoughts, feelings, pain etc. of the trauma from being experienced by the primary person/Host. The jump cuts in this episode represent the loss of time that many patients experience because an alter other than the main personality has been at the forefront. Some goals of treatment can be: process the trauma so as to stop the harm that occurs when patients re-experience everything associated with it (the thoughts, feelings etc. I mentioned above), adopting the use of grounding techniques to try to remain 'present' and decrease the 'loss' of time, and possible integration of alters. That being said, because the alters 'hold' the negative repercussions r/t to the trauma, integration on some level does occur when the trauma is processed by the main person. the alters do have real memories and they are also real people. This was a good way of showing how involuntary alter changes are. For what I know about DiD, you can really lose days even when one of you alters decides to front. Seems Steven is a fairly new-ish alter so whatever happened to Marc to make Steven take over for so long must’ve pretty large trauma (which alters are born/created which is through Massive trauma). I appreciate the fact they (the host and alters) Haven’t made an “Evil” alter yet. Again DiD is about managing trauma not causing it. Yes, some alters (known as Protecters) can be rougher on the outside ( aka in front while the host is in the mind). But, never straight-up causing problems on purpose only to protect the host and the other alters. And Marc is the host as for Steven he is the one who is the most out aka in front so he can have some social life

actually he might not technically have DID, he could have OSDD or belong to one of the several categories of people who display multiplicity without having a trauma disorder (which happens, indeed in spite of the medical establishment not accounting for it yet) given what we've seen so far he has disassociation so it is probably trauma based in his case, but i just wanted to elaborate a bit in regards to how stuff like this can manifest.

For example, people from Northern Ireland are technically "British" or "Brits" due to their nationality being tied to "The United Kingdom of Great Britain". So to call a scot "British" or "A Brit" is to assert that Scotland belongs in the UK. We scottish people generally appreciate being delineated from it.

Steven, or rather ‘Marc’ suffers from Disassociation Identity Disorder, or DID. They did a good job of portraying it so far, as it’s not unusual for the multiple personalities, or “Alters” to not remember what the others did, as memories do not transfer between personalities. That’s why some people with DID are misdiagnosed as sleep walkers or schizophrenics. People can have anywhere from 2 to dozens of personalities per person. The personalities are each born from traumatic circumstances, as a way to cope with the situation they find themselves in. Some can have alters that are childlike, formed when they were children and frozen in terms of mental age. Some people have older alters, fantasy alters (ghosts from attempted suicide, animal personalities from pretending to be animals to cope from trauma, etc) some people even have fictional characters as alters! The brain is incredible in the ways it will adapt and reshape itself to maintain its own sanity and protect you!

I'm an amateur of egyptology since before I could read, so it's nice to see it in movies and shows like this, even if they always get a few things wrong, and it's nice to see a bit of France other than Paris too (I think it's France, the 'bad' guy definitely spoke French) ^^ and I really enjoy Moon Knight, he's always been a character with a lot of potential for TV, this first ep didn't disappoint, even though some SFX looked not so great, I like this suit, but the mummified face looks a bit strange, I prefer the simple mask of the comics :) And come on, Steven, Avatar isn't an anime, it's american, check wikipedia... @@SorchaSublime it isn’t. It makes it simple. Trying to tie art style to a country is stupid, since art style will be based on more than just the culture someone grows up in. For example, MHA is a superhero manga that takes heavy inspiration from American comics to the point that Japanese fans became displeased with the western influence. Do we call his work comics cuz it’s inspired by the west? No! We call it a manga. It’s significantly easier to just call it based on where it was made rather than navigating art styles which are developed from numerous references around the world. It’s dumb just cuz literally anyone can look at anything and say “oh it’s anime”. The more “detailed” the style becomes shorthand for “anime style” and simplistic is “cartoon style”. And that is dumb as hell, especially when most casuals/people who aren’t artists can’t tell the difference between art styles to begin with.

Well when it comes to myth, especially marvel when they change gods into just *extremely* powerful beings, artistic liberties are made. This show reminds me of Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan, who also takes liberties with Egyptian mythos to make the series more enjoyable.
